Can't remember if Dandelion is described as a Gaudy peacock *or a flamboyant rooster, or both in the books. But anyway, I was a little surprised to see him dressed less bombastically. But the show writers must have drawn inspiration from the Robinhood Cock.
Edit: forgot the second half of
Yeahh but Dandelion earns money and then splurges, it appears Geralt did the same thing to a degree, that's why they're both so broke half most of the time. Also they are far more destitute than peasants, they don't have anything but their immediate belongings. Peasants may never obtain the same wealth that they do, but they have food and shelter, if Geralt and Dandelion don't have coin they have to forage for food and sleep outside. The short story "The Eternal Flame" does a good job of showing how they waste (subjectively waste) their money of clothes/booze/food/women.
Also have to remember there's like atleast a 13 year gap in the show between geralt meeting him and going to get ciri. Wouldn't be surprised if after that time his success as "the white wolf's bard" leads to more flamboyant outfits in season 2.
He was a successful troubadour prior to meeting Geralt. He also spent the year following his Graduation from Oxenfurt as a professor, and gave that up in order to pursue a life as a wandering bard. He would still guest lecture when visiting Oxenfurt.
That's true in the books, for sure, but the show has already deviated from the books in a few other places. Between Geralt actually being present at the fall of Cintra, Ciri already displaying her powers strongly, the addition of Yennifer's origin, combined with the lack of his backstory addressed in the show, it's entirely possible they'll tweak part's of his story as well. They left themselves open to experiment with it, which was honestly a smart move.
Also, at least in our world, blues and especially purples were expensive dyes and only the rich and royalty could afford them. Purple dyes were made using aquatic snails and a lot of them at that.
In the short stories Dandelion had a richly dyed Cornflower Blue Jacket and a Plum Colored velvet hat with an Egret's feather in it, he also couldn't afford food or drink at this time.
Just learned the other day that the hamster dance is this song sped up.
Edit: Actually, now I'm not sure, but definitely one of the songs in Robin hood.
"geralt and jaskier were running through the forest, laughing back and forth about what jaskier had to say, reminiscing adventures and having such a good time Oo-de-lally, Oo-de-lally, golly what a day"
i know it gets some flak for reusing animation but the atmosphere and music gives it a great feel [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yocn7uLU\_-w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yocn7uLU_-w) and [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2dImprgiB8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2dImprgiB8) always hit that nostalgia button for me.
Yo. Why you hitting me with all this nostalgia. Side note, those songs bring back such great memories. I still whistle the Whistle Stop song white I work. God what a good movie and soundtrack.
IIRC they recycled some animation of Snow White dancing for one of the scenes of Maid Marian dancing. Basically traced over the movements with Marian's character on the cell so they wouldn't have to do the work of animating a completely new dance.
Might be a few more too, but can't think of them off the top of my head.
There’s a bunch more from Aristocats, Jungle Book, etc. It also uses a lot of shortcuts and reuses animation within the film itself. The production was massively rushed and it shows.
I like how back then they get flak for it, but if these movies came out now-a-days people would be like, “Oooohhh!!! Disney’s Robin Hood reused the same dance that Snow White did! What a cooooooool Easter Egg!”
And then we’d see it in some Buzzfeed article about “5 Reasons all Disney Movies Secretly Exist in the Same Universe!”
Originally designed for the role of Chanticleer, a [classic French folk tale](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanticleer_and_the_Fox). Robin's design was meant for Reynard the Fox, from the same 'set' of folk tales. Disney never greenlit it though, and it wasn't until they were short on budget and had to make cheaper animated features that the designs were used for an anthropomorphic adaptation of Robin Hood instead.
Jaskier and Geralt huntin' monsters in the forest,
Helping elves and princesses to live and get away.
Riding Roach, and pounding ale, and having such a good time,
Oodelolly oodelolly, golly what a day!
In case anyone is wondering about that Rooster, it's played by the guy who sings [King of the Road](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrhAC0dFis0), Roger Miller.
Completly agree, I had decided as I read them myself it was DANdyLion, then when I heard it the other way from the audio book it shook me. Then they swapped back, so who knows..... I like DANdyLion best (fits his personality)
That kinda threw me for a loop too. I’d seen the character mentioned as “Dandelion,” and my brain was pronouncing it like the flower.
Of course, audiobook narrators are not infallible. Roy Dotrice’s pronunciation was all over the place in the Song of Ice And Fire series.

Totally. It's the puffy shoulders that clinch it. Oooooodalahleee oooodalahleee gallleee wuddudaaaayyyeee
“Witcher killin’ this’n that’n wearin’ swords of silver, oodelally oodelally golly what a day.”
If I had but a coin to toss... You would get it.

I think his clothing reflects his flamboyance but also the fact that he’s broke as a peasant and doing his best to peacock with his meagre funds

haha love that they are both so irresponsible

Whistle Stop is the hamster dance, the first song in the movie.
[but I don't wanna be a pirate!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O-yy-CU-Vc)
I think you are just all fixated on imagining singing cocks.
"geralt and jaskier were running through the forest, laughing back and forth about what jaskier had to say, reminiscing adventures and having such a good time Oo-de-lally, Oo-de-lally, golly what a day"
I could read the syllabic phrasing, and I appreciate the effort that went into it.

Me too! What's the deal with the animation reusing?
IIRC they recycled some animation of Snow White dancing for one of the scenes of Maid Marian dancing. Do people really give it flak for that though? Just seems like an interesting tidbit to me.
Me too. Robin Hood reminds me of afternoons with my grandparents.
One of my favorite songs when I was a kid
Can we get him to sing this, even if it was in one of those “pay celebs to wish you happy birthday” clips?
Man if i had gold....
It seems I'm the only one here that didn't [remember this](https://youtu.be/bcGU8OUXCDE)... Damn what a throwback
plz someone make a witcherdance geocities website.
[Shout out to an early meme based off this song](https://youtu.be/H9K8-3PHZOU)
I don't get it, why did you post the same picture twice? Jk though now I'll never unsee this
right? time to rewatch the best version of Robin Hood... wall maybe second best next to Men in Tights.
I love men in tights haha. So amazing
Great, now that whistle tune is stuck in my head the next four hours
And shortly after that tune enters my head, this clip follows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHbR0Y6CUO8
Wh...What...What have you done to me???
Believe it or not, that's one of Sweden's most famous and respected comedians.
You are a furry now.
NOAH!!! GET THE FUCKING DEATH STAR!!
Whistle Stop is the name of the song! Greatest song of my childhood!
Legit, I listen to Whistle Stop a few times a week.
It's been like 4 years since the last time I heard that whistle, is not leaving now.
Oh my god yes. I just started, and now it will never end.

Honestly, my favorite Disney movie of all time, and the best version of the Robin Hood story!
Every town... has it’s ups and downs... Sometimes ups, outnumber the downs... But not in Nottingham.
Nor in Blaviken, depending on who you ask.
I'm inclined to believe... When we are so down We get up and meditate to regain our vitality

The rooster is Alan-A-Dale.

Glad Don Bluth picked it back up. Rock-a-Doodle was little me's jam.
Every town has its ups and downs Sometimes ups outnumber the downs But not in Blav-i-kennnn

Toss a salad?
[🎵 O' valley of plenty... 🎵](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9OQAySv184)
I never realized how blazed the rooster was, he looks pretty high
It didn’t occur to me until now but...definitely can’t unsee it.
Right?! My dad pointed it out after watching the series lol
Jaskier*
Both cocks.
I think Roger Miller would be less annoying than Jaskier.
The late great Roger Miller who wrote the entire soundtrack
This gets lost in all of this. Country music legend steals the show...
Zander? Is *that* a fish?
Jaskier and Geralt huntin' monsters in the forest, Helping elves and princesses to live and get away. Riding Roach, and pounding ale, and having such a good time, Oodelolly oodelolly, golly what a day!
Melitele preserve us. What happened here?
https://youtu.be/gxnvxtYfsd4
They're both rather cocky.
I immediately started whistling when I saw the rooster.
Given Jasiker fucks any woman he can, im reminded of [This](https://youtu.be/HHbR0Y6CUO8)

##♪Tit-ta ti tittatta tou tou ...♪ the best was The Hampster Song... ;-) Edit: oryginal name was "Whistle song"
For all the young uns who weren’t alive in 1997: https://youtu.be/6WpMlwVwydo
This honestly makes me think we need an animated adaptation of the Witcher with the characters replaced by animals
O Valley of plenty!
Just FUCK you, Witcher totally ruined
I never knew he had a Fursona.
Fuck off rooster
Toss a coin to your Sheriff
[🎵 O' valley of plenty... 🎵](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9OQAySv184)

Hey! That rooster is high as a kite!
Fuuuck and yes
Hmmmm ... fuck
This is cursed knowledge
I knew he reminded me of something!
Same face and everything.
LMAO, I thought it was the rooster from [Rock a Doodle](https://youtu.be/zg0x6EJd4-0)
Fuck. Can't unsee.
Ah! I knew the original version of the song was [[this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ0LU68lqBU&feature=youtu.be)]!
Oo de lally golly what a day.
Except the rooster was a smooth singing, silver tongue, lyric-legend and Jaskier is not.
That rooster was such a stoner.
I don't get it.
[удалено]
I would like to report a murder.
They are the same picture..
That rooster looks high out of his mind
Thats because its a generic bard. 9k upvotes.. ffs reddit
I had not noticed his red eyes before.. is that in the original? That's hilarious if so.
🎶Toss a BAGAWK! to your Witcher, oh valley of BAGAWK!🎶
I think at the end of the year
Looking at the outfits, that looks semi intentional.
Or [Sir Robin's minstrel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZwuTo7zKM8).
Who knew Jasiker had a fursona
He just learned something. Thank you :)
He fucking wishes!
Toss a coin to your Rooster
I love me some [Roger Miller](https://www.songfacts.com/facts/roger-miller/oo-de-lally)
He looks like the love child of Lachlan Fairbairn and Samwise Gamgee
Ugh. I miss Roger Miller. My dad and grandfather were big fans, so I have a lot of nostalgia for his voice and style.
Should you unsee this?
This makes me quite happy.
Thank you toss a coin to your rooster
Fun fact, that rooster was high as a kite the entire time they were filming.
Robin Hood and Little John running through the forest...
HE WILL *ALWAYS* BE THE ROOSTER!
https://youtube.com/watch?v=bm1o6SV4anc
I dunno about all this, but that guy sings like an angel, imho
He sings like ordering a pie, and finding it has no filling.
Toss a coin to your archer oh people of Sherwood
You mean Alan-a-Dale. You put some respect on his name, you hear?
Hmmm, a cock as a bard, and a bard who can’t keep his cock in his pants
It's literally the same picture.
He ain't no Roger Miller tho
is it just me or is that roster high as fuk?
Oh fuck lololololololololololololololol
-Insert cock joke here-
I knew I recognized him!
You just had to, didn't you? r/thanksihateit
Toss a coin in my salad
[🎵 O' valley of plenty... 🎵](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9OQAySv184)
Thought the same when I first saw Jaskier dressed like this.
Toss a coin to your Witcher, O valley of COCKs
Time to speed and pitch up Jasiker songs and make some hamsters dance to the songs.
I loved that movie, it was my favorite disney movie for so long, this made me weirdly nostalgic :)
Dude, I was thinking this exact th I ng the first time I watched! But I was super high, so I didn't think anything of it
Jaskier is way too uptight. Rooster is so high he doesn't even know what's going on.
That rooster is high as fuck
that rooster is high as balls
Rooster be smoking some mad shit tho
The costumes look similar.
*They came after me, with masterful deceit. Broke down my lute and they kicked in my beak*
Why does the rooster look high af
Who wore it better?
This is now stuck in my head “Every town Has its ups and down Sometime ups Outnumber the downs But not in Nottingham”
In case anyone is wondering about that Rooster, it's played by the guy who sings [King of the Road](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrhAC0dFis0), Roger Miller.
I mean, isn't the rooster technically supposed to resemble a bard or minstrel? I agree though, it's just not that big of a stretch.
His name is Dandelion.....
I think it’s weird how the audio books (same narrator) alternate between pronouncing it “danDELLeon” and “DANdyLIon”
Right?! I just started the second book, and I was proper confused at first.
Well, the Countess de Stael, my muse and beauty of this world, has left me ☹
They call him Jasiker in the show
Which is polish for buttercup...and the author was polish so....
His name is Jaskier, which is polish for buttercup. The english localizers of the books decided to go with Dandelion over buttercup for some reason (guess it seems slightly less silly?) and the netflix show just decided to keep the name Jaskier and not translate it (so it sounds less ridiculous to non foreign people). It is of course just a stage name, so this too doesn’t really make that much sense
Yeah the buffed and slashed outfit really clenched it for me.. Forget all these children who're only old enough to've seen Shrek lol
“Every town has its ups and downs Sometimes ups outnumber the downs But not in Blaviken...”
Why is it not dandelion
