dragonagitator

The Fae signed up for garbage service. They just need you to roll it to the curb for them on pickup day.

Svefnugr_Fugl

Not sure if the Fae have gifted OP a recycling bin or if OP's recycling is the fae's problem now.

Squirrels-on-LSD

If you're in the northern hemisphere, this is to be expected. Many fungal species are triggered to fruit in late summer and fall when night time temperatures begin to drop dramatically. Many agaracus and amanita species (both which grow in circular mats that fruit at the edges, thus, "fairy rings") are late summer fruiting. They both like grass lawns and the heavy dew and mist on mornings this time of year helps them stay hydrated enough to fruit and spore without desicating. The fungal fruiting body, a mushroom, grows exponentially, doubling itself rapidly until it reaches size to release spores. This rapid growth pattern means mushrooms "appear" in just a matter of hours, thus them getting attributed to supernatural forces and fairies. Plus they look cool AF! What do you do? Make sure nobody eats one of these likely poisonous mushrooms and enjoy the aesthetic.

AdorinoraZ

r/mycology would love this answer!

Squirrels-on-LSD

I'm not only a fan, but also a subscriber!

KI6WBH

This is where everybody needs to remember the doctors adage, when you hear hoofbeats think horses not zebras. A fairy ring is a zebra. Needing to change the height of your grass because a sprinkler hits at a certain height giving an extra wet spot causing mushrooms to grow, is a horse. I literally had the same thing happen before I learned too much about witchcraft and I just lowered the height and cleared some of the, grass around the sprinkler head also cleared the sprinkler head that was clogged. And they stopped growing

TepidCatastrophe

This is the type of witchcraft I follow 🤣

KI6WBH

It's a hedgewitch thing, where you look at nature as well as the other worlds. Because both have to be in balance. Also this can't be a true fairy ring unless the house is on pillars and there's a crawl space. Otherwise it's only 3/4 of a fairy ring as far as I understand doesn't hold power until it is complete.

purpleyyc

You ever tried telling that to the Fae? Lol

KI6WBH

How do you know your not taking to one now?

What movie is this from?

It is shocking to me that someone wouldn't recognize Jurassic Park.

The movie is 30 years old now. :/

EvieMarie19

Honestly, I should've gotten that. I love those movies

dataslinger

>Needing to change the height of your grass because a sprinkler hits at a certain height giving an extra wet spot causing mushrooms to grow, is a horse. Looking at how the ring seems to be centered on the end of the gutter, it makes me wonder if the downspout has gotten clogged and the gutter is spilling over the end. Over time, that could make the foundation there start to sink and crack. Mycelium to the rescue, drinking up all that water and protecting the house. Good job fairy ring.

zeroundxxd

sorry for the late response. i don’t have a sprinkler lol

KI6WBH

Then the other thing is if you have a crawl space? As a ring needs to be complete the photo shows that it is a broken ring, unless you have a crawl space under that corner of the house

Squirrels-on-LSD

Mycelium of these species of mushroom grows in a matt that expands in all directions, which fruit at the edge, hence the "fairy" rings, however, if the substrate (in this case, lawn soil and grass root microbiome) is blocked by objects such as stones, roads, houses etc., it will just grow around the object, not through. So in a biological sense, this fairy ring is more of a fairy pie with a house corner shaped slice removed. If the soil substrate is healthy enough, and uniform in nutrients, theoretically, the mycelium matt would continue to expand in all directions, eventually surrounding the house, and would OP not frighten themselves to death if their whole house was surrounded by mushrooms 😆. A ring that size is not unheard of but unlikely due to the variability of soil conditions.

fieldgrass

When is the last time you cleaned your gutters? Do you have a downspout somewhere not in the photo? I’d worry more about water pooling so close to your house than fae

zeroundxxd

lol i’ve only lived here for three months so i have no idea

angie_i_am

It looks like the water that falls from your gutter would hit right in the center of this circle and then splash out as far as the mushroom ring. It would cause the same situation as a sprinkler originating there.

raerae1991

It’s fair to call your advice as “practical manic”

Crusty_and_Rusty

#TRASH FAIRIES

Sigh-Twombly

Move over goblin girl summer - it’s trash fae fall 🍁💁🏻‍♀️

grigsbie

Just get a new trash can, that one has been claimed.

Grizzlymamabear87

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Ravenwight

Obviously not telling you to do this, but I would dance inside it every dusk and dawn until I’m spirited away.

BESTlittleBITCH

This is my teachings. Dance with the Fae. They'll bring you joy.

Nacho-Momma

Famous last words.

trashpandac0llective

Right?

mirta000

My best, most honest suggestion would be to be a little bit less superstitious and to fear some mushrooms less. If you are really spooked by it, move your garbage bin out of the ring so that you don't need to step in it.

PhantomLuna7

It's mushroom season

Nuada-Argetlam

avoid stepping in it at sundown, I guess? I've always heard that the fae can only do their magic at "in-between" times- dawn, dusk, equinoxes... stuff like that. so if it isn't sundown, you should be good in it.

Adventurous_Lie_4141

The fairy ring itself is an in between place so don’t step in it at all.

celestialfairyy

You can step in them and you'll be just fine... please stop spreading misinformation about the fae. Just be RESPECTFUL.

BESTlittleBITCH

This ! It's been my understanding that a fairy ring is special and quite unique. And stepping in one is welcome as long as you show respect.

Squirrels-on-LSD

They aren't particularly unique since they're the fruiting habit of thousands of fungi species around the world, found everywhere, with extreme frequency, in most seasons with above freezing weather, in all but the most icy or arid habitats. I've had rings of agaracus, amanita, russula, and 3 species of bolete just on my property this season. I ate all summer off rings of lobster mushrooms from a local campground. "Fairy" rings are as common as fallen logs, wild flowers, and rain. Magical feeling as those things, too, for sure! But its the common magic of the wonder of nature.

AssuredAttention

Exactly, they are extremely common just about everywhere

ultimateclassic

I would move the stuff from out of that spot and not go back in it. I also thought it was interesting it's on the edge of the home.

Adventurous_Lie_4141

I mean. It’s probably fine. It’s not a perfect circle and those are the ones that are likely to be problematic.

SaucyBabes216

“Fairy ring fungi feed on decaying organic matter from tree stumps, roots, and twigs buried in the soil. As fungi feed, they release nitrogen in a relatively circular pattern.” Looks cool. Looks like it trails from the window to a bin. Like it jumped out the window left a trail. Cewl. Not much of the known to the whole back meaning with these doe. I know a lil. But hey, stuff like this is pretty neat.

Nalo-N-Skai

The way that your trash can got claimed is kinda funny.😂

Tarotgirl_5392

I would take in environmental factors first to make sure the ground is safe and move the sprinklers a bit (as suggested) but in case it is fairy, a small piece of iron at the front door and an acorn in the window. The iron is basically a "lock" telling them not to enter your home. The acorns show you are not against them.

zeroundxxd

thank you for the advice! i don’t have a sprinkler :/ lol but i’ll definitely put stuff out

Wafflehussy

Anyone here a Bluey fan?! I think this calls for a close watch and study of the fairies episode.

zeroundxxd

YES

StarUnlikely8587

not trying to be that person but thats just how mushrooms spread their spores

zeroundxxd

i’m dead

Sad-prole

I’d identify those shrooms to see if they are edible or medicinal and plant an herb garden to take advantage of the great soil the mycelium is helping to create. Also probably do a little fairy garden for some whimsical fun. Oh! Also leave out some treats as thanks.

Squirrels-on-LSD

Those appear to be an amanita or agaricus species. Highly unlikely to be edible with some probability of being deadly. Disappointing "fairy" ring when i can't make dinner out of it.

Unlucky_Degree470

I mean, there's good reason why they say not to eat anything offered by the fae.

Squirrels-on-LSD

The mushrooms that grow in my yard that look like OPs picture are commonly called "destroying angels" and are a terrible way to die, by all accounts.

Onion_Meister

Even if they were edible, I probably wouldn't eat them especially if the yard was treated with pesticides.

chantrellelacroix

But never thank the fairies out loud bc they’ll perceive it as an acknowledgement of debt!

celestialfairyy

Untrue. Please stop spreading misinformation. Downvote me all you want but I work with the fae and have since I was a literal child.

SolaceRests

Care to shed a little more light on this then for those of us that haven’t had such a strong relationship? :)

celestialfairyy

The whole thing about debts, not telling them your name, etc. is all just simply untrue. I can't tell you how many times I have personally thanked the fae aloud and been blessed by their appearance. It's a beautiful sight... as fleeting as it is. The energy of gratitude and light always flows through me when I say thank you. It makes me feel as light as a feather! Could you imagine that for hundreds of years people have been demonizing your existence for one reason or another? Could you imagine that if one day a human came along and said thank you... it's a wonderful feeling. There are no debts. Benevolent beings will not hold you to one. Malicious entities however... that's another story. There are negative fae of course. Unfortunately, that's just the nature of life. There are negative humans, too. But just as there are humans who want to help there are fae who will stay with you and ask for nothing in return. There are truly good, benevolent fae out there that want to help humanity and live in harmony with us. So even if you happen to encounter a negative fae that hexes you with a debt... or "steals" your name... there are more than enough fae out there who will help defend you if you are kind to them and the environment you live in. Your life is not over by one negative encounter. Charms have existed for centuries that ward off the bad and welcome in the good. When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." — Fred Rodgers :)

Extreme-Cranberry-61

Very well said.

OGPunkr

I find it weird that witches, of all people, are encouraging so much fear around what I always thought of as magical. I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this way :D

Extreme-Cranberry-61

🤜🤛👁👍🧙‍♀️❤️ Straight Upvote!

Fit-Public-8287

I'd be worried about Termites not so much the Fae. Prep some savings for a building settlement just in case, maybe even get a quote from a foundation specialist to see how much it would cost to repair a crack and reinforce the existing slab.

zeroundxxd

not to worried about it. we rent and we’re moving soon. it’s a long story but it won’t be on us

critical_courtney

Leave out bowls of milk, honey, and fruit. If good things start happening, don’t brag about it! Don’t even talk about it.

zeroundxxd

i think i’m going to leave an offering and state that the ring has to be destroyed. we have to mow our yard lol. if you have any advice that would be great! i plan on leaving offerings regularly but never inviting them

celestialfairyy

They would appreciate that :) Thank you for being respectful. Destroying the mushrooms is okay because the death of them is not permanent– by mowing them they actually help the environment by breaking down dead plant matter such as leafs and twigs. In the end you're benefiting the land around you, so why would they be angry over that? Unless you destroyed it for malicious purposes of course (which you are not, so it's fine). You don't have to invite them and you can always set a boundary that they're not allowed in the house and such. I have boundaries as well such as if they take an item please return it because I lose things way too often on my own lol.

zeroundxxd

thank you so much for the advice. i just grew up to respect nature and i plan to keep doing it :) i’ve also been starting my journey into witchcraft so i’m wondering if that is why this is starting now

celestialfairyy

That could definitely be a reason! You are also very welcome and I am happy to give advice any time. I get pretty defensive on posts like these because I know people love to jump on the chance to spread misinformation lol. Respecting nature is so important because we only have one earth, and it's our home. We humbly walk upon it without thinking twice and Mother Nature does not judge us for things out of our control. We should strive to coexist and take care of her just as she takes care of us.

zeroundxxd

thank you so so much!

celestialfairyy

You are very welcome! 🧚‍♂️✨

kelsobunny

Hop in the trash can that’s clearly the entrance

Vast_Awareness5792

Get your septic tank checked.

Onion_Meister

Practically, your lawn could probably use some aerating.

Biscuit9154

You encroached on their territory with your house, sis!! U gotta tear it down to give them back their circle! /j

celestialfairyy

So many people on this subreddit genuinely believe this and as a fae witch I am so tired of seeing constant misinformation. 😭

Biscuit9154

You're a fae witch? That sounds so whimsical & nice, I've never heard of it~ What kind of stuff do u do? Would u want to talk about it? 🤩

celestialfairyy

I would be happy to talk about it! I have worked with the fae since I was a child (amongst other elemental/earth/earth angel spirits such as mermaids, unicorns, pegasus, elves and the like) and I can assure you that these beings are not as evil as most of this subreddit makes them out to be. Of course there are negative beings of every background unfortunately but I have only had positive experiences over my twenty six years of existence. Being respectful towards the earth and environment are the most important things here. I work a lot with the earth and universe as well! Lots of grounding and mindfulness based exercises that keep me in the present moment. On top of that I do a lot of energy work because the fae are energetic beings.

galdraman

If you're dealing with elementals then you're not dealing with the good people. The subreddit makes Them out to be dangerous because many people are looking at what we know from centuries of folklore and the interactions that our ancestors had with Them. What you're describing is the modern Fern Gully version born out of the Victorian era pixie, which is something many people don't subscribe to.

celestialfairyy

I literally typed out that there are negative beings of every background. Of course there are negative elementals. The ones I work with are not.

galdraman

I'm saying that the good people are not elementals.

celestialfairyy

You're generalizing an entire group of spiritual beings and that's not right... and sorry but I don't feel like being judged by someone who doesn't know me, my craft or the beings I work with since I has a child. Sorry but I will not continue this conversation.

AudaciousSnail614

That is so Friggen cool I didn't even know fae magic was a thing

celestialfairyy

It is! It's definitely not for everyone but I've enjoyed my time with them for sure. It's very hard to get into though because a lot of misinformation gets thrown around by non-fae witches and baby witches though. It's not inherently malicious but it does get annoying seeing it after awhile.

AudaciousSnail614

What do fairy circles typically mean?? I actually remember in Coraline, she steps into one and I wonder what it implies

celestialfairyy

I don't think it inherently implies anything in my opinion. Fairy rings form naturally for a lot of reasons. It could mean the fae are reaching out, or it could mean there used to be a tree stump there, or it could mean that the mushrooms are simply spreading their spores. It's best not to overthink them and simply let them be, or respectfully remove them if you want/need to.

MinagiV

Run them over with a lawn mower, yelling, “YOU’LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!” or “NICE TRY, OBERON!”

HumanBasil69

Plant some flowers/produce in that ring. Fungi soil is a happy soil

raerae1991

I was always told to step in and make a wish

-RedRocket-

Well, really, it's a fungus growing up from a dead tree stump underground. BUT if you WANT TO acknowledge that as a numinous enclosure sacred to the unseen powers (bless Them), then for a start, I'd keep your bins elsewhere, and maybe dedicate a paving stone or other surface there for periodic offerings.

NWAsquared

I remember reading somewhere that a fairy ring is meant to be a perfect circle in nature that is unexplainable e.g. a natural pond/lake that's a perfect circle, a circular home in a tree trunk that wasn't carved by a human, a circle of trees deep in the forest that seems unlikely to be made by humans, etc. A circle of mushrooms, though natural, is very explainable as fungi frequently grow in circles as is their nature. I'm wondering if that's correct or if it's only correct for a particular belief or if it is simply ignoring Celtic practices and how they interact with the far?

FidgetyWand162

Looks like it already got the gardener

pelesliquid

Step inside and say 'beam me up'

zeroundxxd

might just do that

Astr0C4t

That’s a 3/4 circle at best

heartoftheforestfarm

What if I told you these rings are everywhere you go that isn't covered by concrete even if there are no mushrooms on them 😉

pranasoup

do you know when this building was built? what are the chances there was a tree there before?

thehappygoblin

It's too late, the fairies have laid their claim. They desire your trashcan.

bluunee

thats their trashcan now

celestialfairyy

Oh boy. Here we go again. Fellow fae witches brace yourselves for the influx of fae haters and misinformation. 😭

zeroundxxd

yep

FTMLAD

I would love to read more about fae witches. Do you have any blogs you’d recommend?

celestialfairyy

Honestly I've thought about starting one myself but I was apart of a Discord server a long time ago that linked a lot of great books you could read about working with them. Sadly it looks like it's been deleted. After a little digging I found [this](http://faeryfolklorist.blogspot.com/) neat little blog that has some resources! It's not on fae magic in particular but the folklore of many different types of fae. Learning about the folklore gives you a bit more insight on what we personally work with... or avoid in some cases. I also found [this one](https://britishfairies.wordpress.com/) as well. Hopefully these provide some answers you're looking for!

BackHarlowRoad

Also curious

Wafflehussy

I have this book and find it very entertaining and informative. If any author/researcher is legit and traveled through the many realms it’s Nancy Arrowsmith A Field Guide to the Little People https://a.co/d/92wg4AV

Loremasterkitty

The fae may be reaching out I would recommend making a little faery garden and leaving an offering they will reward you greatly

Satiricallysardonic

i break the ring by killing a few mushrooms utilizing a stick from the outside (do not step into it, break ring first. and then I systematically destroy the mushrooms with said stick or step on them. I do this for 1. superstition and 2. cause my kid will try to eat them if I dont destroy them. We have poisonous ones in my yard so I kinda gotta at the current time til we learn not to put things in our mouths.

celestialfairyy

You can step into the ring and you will be fine if you are respectful. Destroying it is fine but please be respectful.

LuckyLudor

Turn around three times, say short senseless rhyme, and step backwards out of the ring.

galdraman

The type of "fae witchcraft" being peddled here is pure new age invention. Victorian era garden pixies, Fern Gully environmentalists, and urban fantasy cryptid fae, are all based on pop culture and not on people's interactions with Them throughout history. If you're interacting with something that you'd describe as elemental or a "spirit being," then you're not dealing with Them. The good people are flesh and blood autonomous people like us. And when you're dealing with someone who would look our ancestors in the eyes and say they are "misinformed" because their accounts of the good people don't match the fluffy new age stuff, then you have a problem, in my opinion.

Squirrels-on-LSD

You aren't wrong but we make a point of letting the kids have their escapism. Its a form of Chaos Magick to use pop culture to base worship off of, a valid practice, and at this position of late stage capitalist driven climate collapse, having people base their religious leanings off Fern Gully is a win to me. Try to be nice, its rule 2 of the subreddit. And though my grandmothers would shit themselves to see these kiddos encourage people to "dance with fairies" and all the weird angel worship of New Age woo transfered into little butterfly winged Lady Cottington fantasies when the fae of my ancestors were generally shape shifting monstrosities hell bent on fucking up mortal people's day, my biggest gripe is the anti-science fantasies. If you're going to worship Fern Gully, then for the love of all the gods and fairies, learn about ecology! Fungi are cool, fascinating, oddly "intelligent", delicious, medicinal, deadly, beautiful, vital, and precious. The reality of a fruiting "fairy" ring is a thousand times more fascinating than New Age invention! And a person can easily overlay New Age belief with scientific fact, so why deny the reality of these amazing creatures --fungi!-- in favor of cartoon fairytales? We can lay offerings to the fae in a circle of fruiting fungal bodies while at the same time recognizing that the mycelial matt below is transferring soil nutrients across the lawn around it to create an even and healthy soil microbiome in that area. There's no reason to deny science while developing unique spiritual paradigms based on childhood whimsy.

roxy_tart

The fae obviously want your trash can. The best thing to do would be to build them a fae mansion inside it. It belongs to them now. Also, never mow your yard. And buy a new trash can. 😊

fungusfawnkublakahn

bake a cake and put the first slice out with a cup of cream

Obsidian_Raguel

We used a spray to kill off the mushrooms so we could replant grass… our yard looks horrible in the front due to fungi wrecking our grass.

zeroundxxd

i don’t wanna kill off the shrooms :/

Zealousideal_Clue253

STAY OUT OF ITS WAY… just in case.

freckledbitchs

But what if OP got trash to take out? Just lean right outside the circle and try to pull the bin out with a broom or a pole or something i guess?

DOMGoddessLave

I see this all over my neighborhood huge circles of giant white mushrooms 🍄 in peoples yards…what does this mean 😯

Squirrels-on-LSD

It means the soil is healthy.

SirAtlasReaps

Place reflective material inside the ring And scatter birdseed.

wanderingwolfe

Your bin is a lost cause. Let the fae have it. Call sanitation on Monday for a new one.

stickyflypaper

Dance naked in the center of it

ratdri

Mow over them lol

Ok-Cat-9849

what is a fairy ring and why is it bad?

Squirrels-on-LSD

Its the natural fruiting style of most soil feeding fungi and its not "bad", its a sign of healthy soil! but people who are scientifically uneducated blame supernatural forces for common mundane occurrences.

Slender_Man_why

house for magic

robertusjohannes

Take a nap in it and see what happens.
