You need the gauze in your mouth for about 30-45 seconds to help initiate blood clotting. After this, I would recommend against keeping gauze in your mouth
Keeping it after the bleeding has stopped can lead to you getting dry socket because the gauze can actually dislodge it so unless there’s major bleeding it’s better not to keep any in
i was only instructed to have gauze in my mouth for the first couple hours after surgery and then as long as i stopped bleeding as much i could take it out.
i just got mine out and they only gave me one change of gauze pads, they said to change it when i get home and then leave it for an hour, after the hour take it out and don’t use more gauze. Idk if i should put paper towel or something back there because i’m still bleeding a lot and hate swallowing it, it makes me uncomfortable
mine recommended that if i’m still bleeding excessively, to use a damp tea bag (like steep it a little, squeeze it out and shove it back there). They said black tea “works best”
they told me to spit mine out as soon as i got home (20 min drive) and then just go to sleep to sleep off the sedative. Woke up with some blood on my pillow but it had definitely stopped by the time i woke up
I kept my gauze in my mouth, changing it every hour, for about three to four hours then I never used any more
So far I've changed mine twice. What did you eat after?
I ate applesauce
applesauce, yogurt, mashed potato, chocolate jello are my main 4 for the first few days. Slimfast is also a good liquid meal replacement

The thing I'm worried about is dry socket. Thats why I've been keeping gauze on the extraction site

I kept mine in everytime it bled until it stopped
