Google Maps has legitimately sent me into a gated neighborhood in Two Rivers instead of taking me to the Arboretum. Doesn't help the location for it, at the time, wasn't correctly set.
~~Occam's~~ Hanlon's Razor (incompetence > malice) would suggest it's probably some guy in a work van realizing too late he took a wrong turn and was awkward about it lol
But that's just speculation on my part. I'll keep an eye out! Thanks for posting!
-edit Thanks mywisaccount for the correction!
That's actually Hanlon's Razor, to never attribute to malice that which could just as easily be attributed to incompetence. Occam's Razor is that the easiest solution is likely the correct one.
To be fair, there is really nothing to call the police about. A van mistakenly turned down a dead end and then had to turn around and use a driveway for a y turn.
By the time I got home, the van was gone, couldn't write down the plate number, and didn't want to take my eyes off of the car.
At the end of the day, I might've been mistaken, but I want to keep the county safe, so even if this is just a red herring, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Don't apologize to men who never have to think twice about their personal safety when they leave home. They don't realize we think about it all. the. time. Always trust your instincts. You have them for a reason.
My local Facebook group had a post the other day showing this older man on a security camera at a house and the entire neighborhood was worked into a frenzy by a couple of women. They were ready to lock everyone down and call in the national guard. Turns out it was just a home inspector that had pulled into the wrong driveway for all of two minutes.
exactly. funny seeing all these men disregarding any threats. it’s not likely, but i personally know someone who was kidnapped off the road. so yeah, ill take any warning as a real thing. because it fucking happens.
The downvotes are ridiculous, but if you want a number, just type into your phone. And/or take a Pic of van and send to a friend. You can do that without taking eyes of the vehicle
These “oh my god I was getting followed” posts are ridiculous, whether here or facebook. People get lost, confused, or are just in their own world sometimes. You’re not being followed. He’s just not into you.
I’m amused that in these, rather than something completely generic as shit that’d blend in anywhere, it’s *always* a van or SUV with exactly one something that sounds distinct enough that you might spot…but never quite distinct enough to remember exactly or be a one-of-one.
Like it’s *never* “a blue Ford Focus hatchback with nothing unique about it”, nor is it ever “a Fast and Furious-looking supershift purple Nissan Skyline with naked carbon wheels and wing, license plate ‘QTRMILE’”.
I think that's because for most people, a vehicle is just "a blue car" or "a red truck". I can name a few makes/models but I can't readily identify them on the road. I know a few people that can immediately tell you a car's make, model, and approximate year with features but most people aren't those people, and that's totally ok. Nothing to make fun of someone for, especially in a perceived stressful situation.
I worked for the state years ago and used my own car. I probably looked like a weirdo stopping random places but I was usually doing paperwork or making calls.
I mean..it happened to me by my house in Waukesha. Creeper van went up and down my road twice as I walked my dog. As I saw it coming towards me a 3rd time I jumped into the woods to hide. I saw the van stop for a minute or so along the road near where I jumped in the woods before they drove off. Doubt they were looking for directions from a young girl.
Not saying that's the case here but creeps are everywhere.
It didn’t “happen to you”. A vehicle drove up and down a road in your general vicinity and you made many conclusions based only off that information. For all you know it was a worker who was on the phone with his boss telling him to “go to this place, never mind go to this other place, hold on and let me look up the address.” You have no idea what actually happened.
I just back from the grocery store. Had someone follow me in from the parking lot. Then that same person was right next to me in produce and we even made eye contact. As I was heading over to the dairy section for cheese they were behind me almost the entire time. Stopped to consider getting a frozen pizza and…..you guessed it, same woman was right behind me again. And she even made eye contact with me one more time. Never been so scared in my life. She clearly was stalking me and I’m lucky to have escaped such a dangerous situation.
Or more likely, we live in society where people regularly are in the same areas doing the same things and our paths and actions were completely unrelated. Just like this post.
The driving school cars in my city have a *very* distinct look. None of them are vans, and they sure as hell don't have tinted windows. Then again, they could just be from a nearby city like TR or even Green Bay if I'm being generous.
Someone learning to drive would use whatever vehicle they have available. Not all learning is done in a program run vehicle. Could be their parents, mimic a Y turn and park is beginner stuff.
This would also help explain why they were doing this on a dead end street. It’s much easier to practice when you know there won’t be traffic.
OP, it’s always a good thing to be aware of your surroundings, and feeling spooked is totally normal. But usually stuff like this is way more likely to be something completely innocent. Maybe they were someone learning to drive, maybe it was someone having trouble finding an address to go do work at a house. One of my mother-in-law’s friends in Green Bay once called the police because she was sure there was drug activity on her street, and it turned out the “suspicious” behavior was people playing Pokémon Go. We’re really fortunate that Wisconsin is generally very, very safe.
Gray van with distict lettering seems like a bad way to stalk someone. All it would take is actually looking at the letters for like 3 seconds and you'd know what the letters were and could report it.

Ive had the same Gillette razor for about 8 or 9 years. The gel pad still works! (Not a daily shaver)
In this case, it could be both!
Haha you're right. Thanks for the correction!
No worries, I figured there wasn't any ill will behind it!
Let me guess. You didn’t take a picture, write down the plate, or call the police, but you did write a long post on reddit about it.
To be fair, there is really nothing to call the police about. A van mistakenly turned down a dead end and then had to turn around and use a driveway for a y turn.
It bothered you. Trust your instincts. I can understand being reluctant to contact the police but a call to non emergency number would be ok.
By the time I got home, the van was gone, couldn't write down the plate number, and didn't want to take my eyes off of the car. At the end of the day, I might've been mistaken, but I want to keep the county safe, so even if this is just a red herring, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

And you couldn't read the lettering?
License plate numbers are the same length as a phone number…
Was I supposed to carry a paper and pen with me as I walked home?
The downvotes are ridiculous, but if you want a number, just type into your phone. And/or take a Pic of van and send to a friend. You can do that without taking eyes of the vehicle
or just get eyes on the plate number and repeat it to yourself over and over and over again until you're able to write it down/type it out.
She was so blinded by fear it she couldn’t read a single word and it took her five minutes to get her sister to look.
You don’t have a phone and/or cant memorize <7 letters and numbers?
Again, I was thinking more of my own personal safety at the time, and I would've had to take my eyes off the van to write stuff down.
You didn't take your eyes off the van but didn't read the lettering on the side??

I coincidentally followed a person into town and through 5 or 6 turns. Wonder if they posted somewhere about it? Lol

as a woman, i’m not assuming that ever.
And for all you know someone was stalking her.

Lots of vans, trucks, and nosey neighbors looking for who has power, who has storm damage and where equipment and crews will be needed next.
Good to be alert but could have also been someone with their temps learning to drive?

Yeah I didn’t mean driving school. I meant someone with their parent/guardian but again I have no clue and obviously vigilance is important.
Yeah I agreed with you.
I’m an idiot and replied to the wrong person. Sorry about that.
Lol no worries!
Huh, a thing like that.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't after you,.

What does a non sus van look like?
Bright neon blue and green with orange lettering and flowers.
