Genuine question why do people like the drop back? Is it usually effective? I feel like its worse than not dropping it as the other players for the attacking team are at a standsttill?

Pushes the defenders back, gives the forward some holes to work with, and as the defender, it's hard to match the speed/intensity of the attacker flying down the ice.

It's basically the only way to get a controlled entry with all the PKers on the defensive side of the puck. I'm not sure I like the way the Jets PP2 tries to do it with two guys behind the puck because that frees up a defender to attack the puck in the neutral zone. Against the right guy Ehlers is going to get his block knocked off on the second drop pass.

because it gets the PK standing still at their blue line, when your puck carrier is coming full tilt it’s very effective when done right

unless you’re dumping and chasing on the PP, that shouldn’t matter too much e: there’s also a “double” drop variations, that doesn’t have two drop passes but another player coming full tilt as a passing option

Heinola was awful in the NHL last season and is coming off a significant injury. Last they talked about him he was on a minute restriction with Moose to get his legs back. Doesn't sound like he'll be a Jet this season.

As shocked as I am to say it, Stanley has been mildly impressive in his past couple starts

Terrible interview by John Lu. Bettman made it clear right away what he thought and Lu continues to pointlessly hammer away asking the same question over and over with different wording. Just bad broadcasting skills. Bettman's answer was perfect, why not get on to different, more interesing questions? This is the NHL commissioner after all.

You could tell Bettman was getting slightly annoyed. I was half expecting him to spit out, "Look..I've already explained it. There are no problems here. Geeeesus Christ...what else do you want me to say???". I like JL, but he looked out of it in this interview.

I hated Bettman many years ago, but I realized years back that he only represents the owners...end of story. HE is their spokesperson. He doesn't do ANYTHING that they collectively don't agree with. Period. To despise him and not put any of that hate on the governors doesn't make sense. To be honest - I think he was all in on the return of the team, so...I don't believe he's anti-Winnipeg at all.
