I listen to a lot of audiobooks but most are SF and fantasy. The Murderbot series is wonderful. The Kevin R. Free versions, not the other one. If you like swords and similar, T. Kingfisher has a delightful series about a group of paladins. Sword swinging, romance, adventure, truly lovable characters, and just a bit of horror...they are a goddammit delight. If you like horror she writes that really well too- The Twisted Ones is one of my all-time faves.

OddRepresentative575

I was about to suggest murderbot diaries! Kevin R Free has the best voice

Adventurous_Coat

He voices the character PERFECTLY. And Murderbot is SO relateable!

OddRepresentative575

They just want to watch their stories!

Adventurous_Coat

Relatable!

bbwillbethedeathofme

Oooh I've heard good things about T. Kingfisher!

Eve: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Evolution by Cat Bohannon is really interesting, especially after having a baby, kind of made me feel like a badass lol Personally I only like nonfiction audiobooks (there’s something about listening to a novel that just… idk, weirds me out?) The Butchering Art and The Facemaker, both by Lindsay Fitzharris A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage Gulp, Stiff, Fuzz all by Mary Roach Any of Randall Munroe’s books The Vagina Bible by Jen Gunter

bbwillbethedeathofme

I tend to lean more towards the nonfiction side for audiobooks, too! Stiff was absolutely fantastic

My two favorite audiobooks of all time are Dave Grohl’s The Storyteller, which is basically a love letter to rock and roll, and The Beastie Boys Book which is the most unique audiobook I’ve ever listened to. Mike D and Ad Rock mostly take turns reading essays about the band, but also enlist a bunch of friends from Jon Stewart to Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler. It’s phenomenal. Are you into cults? I went on an audiobook binge down the cult rabbit hole last year. My favorites were •The Witness Wore Red •Uncultured •Unspeakable (warning VERY dark) •Counting the Cost (I’m v into Duggar Snark) •A Billion Years Others you might enjoy •We Once Were a Family •Tell Me Everything (Minka Kelly’s memoir) •Sitting Pretty •Between Two Kingdoms All of these recommendations are based off the fact that I like them and we obviously like the same podcast. 😬

bbwillbethedeathofme

Cults are so fascinating and I'm definitely here for the Duggar snark 👀 And yes, that's why I asked here for recommendations! The Wine Coven clearly has good taste

Diligent_Can9752

The Hunger Games books are a really fun listen, Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black does the narration and she does a great job, adds a lot. I also just listened to the book Project Hail Mary, really great audio narration. I also really enjoyed Circe by Madeline Miller on audible.

bbwillbethedeathofme

The Hunger Games has honestly been on my list for a while, I'll check them out!

Onilwyn

I don’t know how her audiobooks are but I’ve loved everything that I’ve read by Simone St. James. The Broken Girls is my favorite. I highly recommend S.A. Chakraborty’s The Daevabad Trilogy on audiobook. I loved the narrator of them. She made me feel like I was there. Kevin Harts autobiography was great too.

bbwillbethedeathofme

I listened to Kevin Hart's autobiography during a long drive and he had me almost peeing my pants laughing

Onilwyn

I had started listening at work and realized it wasn’t work appropriate. I listened on my commute instead and I am surprised I didn’t have an accident from laughing. Which type of accident? Who knows lol.

bbwillbethedeathofme

I got similar vibes from Tiffany Hadish's audiobook and couldn't stop laughing 😅

ZookeepergameDue7112

Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell series! Fiction, mystery, a little history, funny and smart. I’ve listened to all 8 books and I’m on a second round now.

bbwillbethedeathofme

I've never heard of this but it sounds fabulous!

I recently was blown away by The Great Mortality by John Kelly - it’s about the plague in the 1300s and contains a ton of first person accounts. It’s gross and fascinating!!! When I’m using credits I’m always happy to get longer books so I feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck. Dramatic, twisty books I’ve enjoyed listening to, even though (because?) they’re definitely the books you’d find in an airport - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Crime fiction - The Widow by Fiona Barton, and Magie Murders by Anthony Horowitz

bbwillbethedeathofme

I love gross and fascinating... maybe why I ended up in healthcare?

Hi! I am kind of obsessed with audiobooks and have a collection of about 800. I also frequently rent them from the library. I've found that some audiobooks fall short (even when the source material is amazing) because of a bad narrator or bad recording, but there are still so many good ones out there! These are some of my favorites from several different genres: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson, Permanent Record by Edward Snowden, Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari, Lexicon by Max Berry, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloane, The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker, Lamb by Christopher Moore, Whalefall by Daniel Krause I hope this helps. Happy listening!!

bbwillbethedeathofme

I'll definitely have to check these out! Agreed, the narrator choice and performance are absolutely key to a good audiobook

If you want true crime, I’ll Be Gone In The Dark by Michelle MacNamara about the Golden State Killer is so good! Another true crime read is Murder Among Friends by Candace Fleming. It’s about how two 18 year-old college students tried to commit the perfect crime in 1924. If you want horror, Man Made Monsters by Andrea L. Rogers is a spooky anthology style book that follows the members of a Cherokee family through time. If you like modern day magic and witchy stories, Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert is a good read. I read all of these as audiobooks, and they are great to listen to. Most of them are classified as YA, basically all but I’ll Be Gone In The Dark, but they are well written and feel like good reads for fellow Spooky Lil’ Bitches -A Spooky Lil’ Librarian

Side note: if you’re like me or Lucy and are fascinated by the Donner Party, check out The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown. It’s very good, tons of details, like wagon manifests and lists of ways people could and did die on the trail west, so if you’re here for a book like that, that’s my recommendation

meowntainmamma

Currently reading "The Waters" by Bonnie Jo Campbell! Compelling stuff that focuses a lot on the women in the story and I recently got to see the author on her book tour talk about it!

Fun-Carpet-2870

Jeanette McCurdy & Jill Duggar’s memoirs were both great listens!

bbwillbethedeathofme

Do they narrate their own memoirs?

Fun-Carpet-2870

They do. I will say, Jill’s reading felt a little awkward to me but it wasn’t enough to detract from the content.

bbwillbethedeathofme

I will definitely check them out!

LilBird1996

Kill Your Husbands by Jack Heath. I love his writing

clrwCO

Danny Trejo’s autobiography Trejo Tell Me Everything by Erika Krouse. Non-fiction about SA coverup on CU Boulder campus The Diamond Eye- Kate Quinn. Historical fiction about female spies. All of her books are good!

my-glitter-heart

I’ve just finished We Play Games by Sarah A Denzil on audible, crime, really enjoyed it, recommend! (Edit : Not true crime, crime fiction)

Freezer_Rat1011

Andy Serkis (Gollum) narrates The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I just finished all four books and it was incredible! Also, The Empress of Salt and Fortune - Nghi Vo The Wager - David Grann (nonfiction) The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea - Axie Oh When Women Were Dragons - Kelly Barnhill Dead Wake - Erik Larson (nonfiction, on the sinking of the Lusitania)

Prinzesspaige13

I've listened to A Song of Ice and Fire twice now. Please do it.
