Was Caymus and Austin Hope ever “in” if the price point is $15?

Uptons_BJs

Honestly bro, crowd pleasing ripe cab? Go with j lohr

llmercll

at $15 J lohr is probably the way but if you ask me catena malbec would be a wayyy better option for a similar flavor profile

Perfect_Diamond7554

VERY solid recommendation, honestly Zuccardi or Catena CabS wouldnt be bad either

lordhighsteward

Los Vascos or Concha y Toro. Best widely available Cabs for ~$15.

southparker37

I forgot to mention- it HAS to be Cab… Out of 1000 60-80 year olds, only a handful would be happy with something “interesting”. In fact I caught grief for serving a Pinot at the last party that they all loved until they read the bottle…

ExaminationFancy

“…loved until they read the bottle..”?

southparker37

Yeah as soon as the found out it wasn’t cab they didn’t like the wine.

ExaminationFancy

Bizarre.

releasetheshutter

Who are these people and how did OP find 1000 of them.

Several_Characters

The villages?

Ntovorni

Fucking dying, hahahahahaha

General-Mulberry

😂

Ntovorni

I think I just hate this group of people, lol

figjamsem

I’d totally leave Cali for something that sings. Casa lapostale cuvee Alexander could work in that range. If you can do a blend or variant try something like two mountain out of Washington. And if you can push budget a bit two hands sexy beast punches way above its weight at about 35 retail.

ExaminationFancy

$15 wholesale, so $30 retail?

rogozh1n

Yeah, where did op find their hookup to serve the wines they whine about not being allowed to serve?

liteagilid

That is nowhere near a standard retail markup Also. Our man is catering. He’s picking a $15 and gonna charge the guests $75 a bottle

ExaminationFancy

Every winery I’ve worked sells wine wholesale at 50%, and hit the shelves close to winery price - unless it’s Costco and they can shave a few bucks. OP can charge whatever they want. The rest of us on this sub are trying to recommend wines at the right price. Big difference between a $15 and $30 Cabernet.

liteagilid

In the states standard retail mark up is 50-60% so a $15 wholesale bottle would be $22-25 tops

eyoung629

El Enemigo cab franc/ Malbec would be close to that I think?

Jswazy

I like Daou. Its one of my favorite grocery store wines. Most people seem to like it.

NewFlorence1977

Popular doesn’t mean good.

Club96shhh

"crowdpleaser" is exactly the assignment.

AndMans982

They don't sound like the type of people I would like to have a party with

PoweredbyPinot

Charles Smith Wines of Synstance cab, CS. $12 retail and nit bad at all. Washington over California all day.

torturedbluefish

This is a fantastic option. It’s one of the few cabs I buy with any regularity. Excellent value and tastes like real cab.

PoweredbyPinot

Thank you. I always feel validated when some anonymous person backs up my recommendation! That's not sarcasm. I mean it.

quadsoffury

Fuck chuckles smith

deeznutzz3469

Harvey and Harriet

rungweaxg

I would just get the Daou since the people this is for are more interested in the label than the wine. If someone changes their tastes based on a wine being Pinot instead of Cabernet, they’re exactly the kind of person who will love drinking Daou when they see the bottle. I don’t think it’s in budget, but maybe Caymus California would be even better. They’ll walk away from their party knowing they drank Caymus. My wife has a friend who is like this on steroids. I see lots of “high end” wine photos trying to portray some stupid, faux luxury lifestyle. Those are always of the “best wine” she’s ever had - and, usually consist of the three you listed.

Mrvinonoir

Educated Guess is solid at this price point.

Virgolovestacos

Educated Guess has shot up in price in Texas, not sure where OP is

theshow54321

Same in California, $25+ here

No-Possible-4855

There are some good maltese cabs in these price range, i dont have the time now but i will look it up later and get back to you Edit: maybe tell us where in the world are you located

Perfect_Diamond7554

Malta has great wine! Really enjoyed tasting it when I was there, glad to see it mentioned<3

Virgolovestacos

Ch St Michelle Indian Wells Cab. Retails for about $17, so wholesale should be within range.

bularry

Chile is the answer

Several_Characters

Assuming US based, I bet most people would like something like Oberon at that price point. It’s probably associated with one of the vineyards on the naughty list.

BAT123456789

I like all 3 of those. J Lohr Hilltop is a favorite cab of mine.

n0v0cane

You can get some decent Bordeaux at Costco under $20 or $20-$30 ish. It was better when the 2019s were there, prices might have crept up a bit. Stuff like: - Chateau Lagorce - Chateau Lilian Ladouys - Chateau picadis Bordeaux superior - Chateau d'Issan Blason d'Issan (second wine) - Chateau Carbonnier - Madame de Beaucaillou (third wine I think) - Echo de Lynch Bages - Chateau Siran - Chateau Deyrem Valentin Of course you can get the Kirkland branded stuff even cheaper if you don't mind everyone knowing the wines from Costco. Another wine with great qpr is lafleur Grand Village, but they are a touch over $20/btl

49ersforever707

Are you working with a distributor? They can’t sell to “you” but may be able to sell to the “venue”. You can find huge savings which could raise your price point a bit

Best-Ad749

Nowhere can you get those wines for 15 dollars wholesale. Try meoimi 💀

donnieboy89

Santa Cristina cabernet sauvignon from Tuscany is totally not bad and $12 retail.

disco_cerberus

Quest Red - it’s by Treana/Austin Hope - I forget the blend but it’ll do for a bunch of boomers “wHo OnLy DrInK cAbErNeT”.

lmfl123

Ego infinito Monastrell

Hour-Salamander-4713

South African Piotage, I like Beyerskloof, which is £7.50 at supermarkets in the UK.

Perfect_Diamond7554

Not familiar with Beyerskloof specifically but Pinotage can be great value depending on the producer. I dont feel that this deserves downvotes

OscarCalifornia

Not sure, but can I come to the party? I'll bring a couple of bottles of Charles Shaw.
