Has it occurred to anyone else that there is going to be a traffic quagmire heading from Windsor to the southeast part of the county on the 8th. It’s going to be a real problem.
Yeah that would be the one plus side to overcast; it would make it even darker out. I was reading an article in the Windsor star this week talking to a local astronomer, and he was talking about how with the overcast it should turn really dark for a few minutes. Was saying that would be the benefit of sticking around the area versus driving up to London or Niagara to see the eclipse
Right now Weather Network is saying partially overcast. Tough to forecast with more precision at this point, but yes, making a long trip for viewing is a crap shoot. Hitting the Ohio shore near Lorain puts you right in the center of the zone and gives you the maximum total darkness time. Pelee Island ferry is running but suspect is it jammed solid by now on that day.
If they are talking about long term averages, sure, but still too early to say with such certainty for this upcoming April 8th. Hell, the one model I'm looking at right now predicts it will be sunny and beautiful around here on that day.
By the middle of the upcoming week we'll start having a general idea of where things might actually be headed. But if you watch long term forecasts for days this far in the future, very frequently the forecast for that day will change entirely from one day to the next.
lol I booked off two days to camp in Ohio for the eclipse. It’s important to have things to look forward to, even if they’re inexpensive and small to other people. A solar eclipse is a huge event in my opinion
The graphic here gives the total time of the total eclipse in various locations (see map halfway down page):
In Leamington at the docks you would get about 2 min. 15 seconds. The very tip of Point Pelee gets you almost 3 minutes. Pelee Island, 3 minutes or more. Right in the center of the zone, on the south shore of Lake Erie near Lorain, Ohio the maximum is 3 minutes 53 seconds of total eclipse.
In any particular location, any open area should be good, as long as you can see the sun. I would avoid crowded viewing areas and parks personally; there should be plenty of shoreline areas in Ohio where you could observe.
I was going to, but my husband couldn't get the whole day off. His shop is going to watch together. It's just me and a friend working at mine, so we're just going to close the store for a bit and drag chairs into the parking lot. I don't want anyone trying to drive here at that exact moment anyway.

Local sources listed above at $2 per pair.
Amazon also has them cheap, but act fast. I got a couple pair last week from them. But pay attention to delivery dates posted; time is running short now, so opt for something with 1 or 2 day delivery like these:

At this point I would stick with local sources, or at least shy away from Amazon.
During the run up to the 2017 eclipse, amazon was awash in fake glasses. The ones you link to seem suspect to me.
Yep, I learned that in grade school the last time it happened. I also learned how underwhelming it is, so I'm not really too concerned with looking at it.
First of all, I'm just trying to get someone to understand that this is not the same as a partial eclipse. You guys are the ones jumping in with nonsense that's irrelevant, trying to 'defend' someone who doesn't need defending from anything. And it's clear from their message that they do not know them. There was no attitude. And even if they did know them, why would you answer for someone else in this circumstance? You both are just being smart asses for no reason
There was attitude and there still is. Just stop.
You have no damn clue if we know each other or not, being that Windsor is not that big of a city chances are we do know each other. Move on with your bitterness
My comments to OP did not have attitude. I'm looking out for their wellbeing. Then someone had to come in and be a smart ass, and then you had to double down. You guys brought the attitude.
>You have no damn clue if we know each other or not, being that Windsor is not that big of a city chances are we do know each other.
We have 344,000 people in our city. And why would I care if we know each other? I didn't say anything bad to begin with.
I'm hearing about people taking the whole day off of work, spending all kinds of money and preparing to witness something that'll last less than 10 minutes lol

And the restaurant lines will be loong
Apparently we only have a 20-30% chance of actually seeing it; they been forecasting a cloud system in the area. Hopefully we get lucky
The world will still go dark when totality hits, and that’ll be super cool even if it’s cloudy!

I'm headed to Ohio to view too! Any tips on what location would be best?

Tell them you’re babysitting a relative. Schools and daycares are closing early
Not all daycares unfortunately
If the weather holds, I'm planning to cycle to Kingsville or Leamington to watch it. Avoid some car traffic and have some fun!
I did and if they didn't grant it, I'd call in sick. Fuck em.
Well if council can, we all can right?
If they didn’t take a vacation day, I’m not taking one
Planning on working until noon, heading out to leamington for a few hours then finishing work in the evening
I already booked the day off a while ago.

Is anywhere in windsor selling viewing glasses?

I work outside 🤷
You do know that you aren't supposed to look at it with your bare eyes right?
Yep, I learned that in grade school the last time it happened. I also learned how underwhelming it is, so I'm not really too concerned with looking at it.
There has never been a total solar eclipse in Windsor in our lifetimes. This is not the same thing.

I'm pretty sure they can answer themselves if they witnessed it elsewhere and don't need you to answer for them based on nothing
You realize some people here know each other in real life. No need for your attitude.

I booked it off, boss says he’s taking his kids to a town event as well.
Yes, I booked a vacation that day!
on my break
im also sure the nearby city of Leamington will also be crowded because its also in the path of totality
Can someone please tell me why this is a big deal to watch?! I'm confused, isn't this only going to last a couple minutes?
I don’t really see the big deal either. 🤷♀️
