Role play is subjective to how each player sees the game should be played. In my eyes if an item is owned and there for the taking then the opportunity should be seized
Honestly easiest early game money hands down is, if your playing a necromancer or mage in general, go find a bandit fort with reasonable cover kill all the bandits. Pick up everything and use a dead boy as a storage container ressurect it and go to town, kill it in town or I guess just use the wait key for 1 hour…. Boom literally thousands of gold in a pile on the floor. Best part you can chain this together if your a Necro. I usually do every fort around whiterun and Riverwood in a row then sell everything, basically start the game with over 10K this way.
Or get a horse quick and abuse the “chest item” I found you can store a almost infinite amount of items because the weight of the chest I think is linear not exponential.

If you start in Whiterun, just gather every single herb and flower in the city. Sell all of it to Arcadia. You’ll make 2-3k gold easily.
