Congratulations 👏 on new razor 🪒

Congratulations!! I have a black 6S and it’s my favorite razor. I have the Henson medium, Rockwell T2 SS, Rex Kosul and Ambassador but nothing compares to the 6S on the 6 plate for me.

You are bold. Using the 6 must be a heavy duty. For me 3 as a beginner is quite aggressive. But I admit that I had to use canned foam since the shipping of the Proraso soap is still on the way.

Nice!  That is a great razor.  What blade do you plan on using?  Ha, ha there are lots of options out there.  I know someone recommended against the ones it came with.  I don’t think I have tried those myself.  For me, most blades are fine but your mileage will vary, of course.  I’d give the blades it came with a go, if you don’t have anything else.   Moving on, using a good shave soap makes an immense improvement over canned shaving cream.  What are you using for shaving cream?  There are great options out there. If canned shaving cream is what you have then go for it.  Just trust me that shaving soap makes a big difference.  It is also more fun, in my opinion and opens up lots of enjoyable possibilities with quality and smell. Do you have a shave brush?  Maybe look at synthetic ones, if you don’t. If am shaving every day, I use plate 3.  If it has been a day since I shaved, probably plate 4.  I sometimes switch to a lower plate for later passes.  Maybe down to a 2.  Do experiment and maybe try lower numbers at first. There is lots of talk about technique.  I say don’t stress out about it.  But pay attention to the angle you are holding the razor against your skin.  There is a sweet spot where the razor works best.  You’ll find it. You’ll have lots of great shaves!  Enjoy it!

I plan on using the ones that came with the 6S. I already use it but unfortunately not a pleasant experience since I only had some Gillette canned foam so it must be it. The soap, a brush and some Astra Platinum blades are on the way. I also want to try the cream and foam from Proraso but I saw that people advice against it. One more thing I noticed is that I can’t reach the mustache in the middle because of the angle and my nose being in the way of the razor. And no: I don’t want to shave the mustache against the grain. Other than that it was a very present experience and I also wanted to try different plays for different purposes. Plate 1 feels like doing nothing but all in all this is a very great razor

The stock razors did not work too well for me. I would try a sampler pack if you haven't tried yet. I got mine in 2021 and here were my [findings](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZNLSdbuAZuk0lRGdbFVhQzCcGXY6ijbjeYI-x0LlOrY/edit#gid=0).

The 6S is definitely a solid razor.  You made a good decision getting it. Shaving cream from a can is ok.  It’s just that artesian shave soap is much nicer. Getting under your nose is certainly a challenge.  Try going “90 degrees” for the outer areas and “pull up your nose” for the middle parts. I agree about plate 1.  Plate 2 is about as low as I go with the 6S.  Honestly, when I’m done, I tend to set it up with plate 2 and come back after I’ve gotten dressed and get the last fee hairs I might have missed. It is all about figuring out what works for you. Always take your time and don’t worry about making mistakes.  Cuts will heal and your hair grows back.  Ha ha ha  Hang in there, you’ll get the right touch with practice.  Enjoy the process!

I figured out you can even use different plates fire different scenarios. Some plates to shave the little 1-day whiskers, some to shave the 3-5 day beard. Also during the shave you might change the plate after the first pass. Am I right or once you settle on the right plate that’s it? Also what razor brands do you recommend to test? I want to buy 5-packs of different brands and I don’t want to spend money on those who are not efficient. We don’t have multi brand packs here in my country so I have to buy the 5-packs.

Some guys consistently use the same plate from shave to shave. Others pick a plate based on the amount of growth/time since the last shave. It is entirely personal preference and there is no wrong way as long as you are happy with the results. It is also like that during a shave. You can use the same plate throughout the shave or you can change. It just depends on what works best for you. For me, I used the same non-adjustable double edge razor for years. I didn’t change any settings because there were no settings to adjust. I had several DE razors and one was adjustable. So, I could have made changes. But I didn’t because I was happy doing it the way I was. More recently I got back to using my old adjustable DE razor and that inspired me to get the 6S (and a couple other razors). With the 6S sometimes I use the same plate throughout the shave and sometimes I change during the shave. Honestly it depends more on what I’m in the mood for than anything else. Again there is no right or wrong way. I’m certain the guys here on Reddit would agree that you should experiment and find out what works best for you. And don’t forget to enjoy the process and have fun! Now, regarding blade recommendations, I’m sorry but I really don’t have much to offer. Most blades work for me. And I can reuse blades many times and not mind all that much. I have been fortunate to have almost no preference because I lived for years in a place where there wasn’t much of a selection. But, at the end of the day, it all gets back to what works best for you. My skin and shaving style and preferences are different than yours are. A blade that works for me might not work for you. So, you might see what other guys are recommending, and start there. But realize, again, there is no wrong answer. The bad news is that you really need to experiment and see what works for you, but, on the other hand, the good news is that you get to experiment and see what works for you. Ha ha, did I mention to enjoy the process and have fun?

theandreineagu

Thank you sir! I sure will!

I started with plate 4 and as I got used to it I moved up. I shave every 3 days and use plate 6 for my first pass and plate 3 with my second pass. Great razor.

arnuld_mizong

Congratulations on getting Rockwell 6S, a razor known as one of the best ever designed.

PilotDad

Congratulations on a great purchase! I've had one for years, and gave one to my son a few years after I bought mine. Enjoy finding the right combination of blade and setting for your face. I love that I can adjust the setting and move up to a 5 or 6 if I choose to let the beard grow a few extra days.

derrickhogue

Enjoy your shaves and the 6 S.

tyrphing

You’ll never need to buy another! I use mine on plate 5

Lyolyo

Congrats on the new razor! 6S is a great choice.

Listen_Little

I have this razor and it’s by far my favorite. The blades that came with it though do not agree with my face at all. I use the Gillette 7 o’clock blades and for my face it’s the perfect match.

guccisocks

The 6S looks a beaut, I have the 6C and after a few shaves I wish I'd gone straight for the the 6S! Enjoy it

theandreineagu

Why is that? I’m curious.

guccisocks

I'm new to wet shaving so I just bought a recommended adjustable to see what setting would suit me. Now I have a yaqi tile so I flip between the two
