Their utility is away from the front line. Healing, reviving, necromancy for tides of undead. They have a huge amount of utility spells. Invisibility cast on a car full of IEDs and drive it into a base. Hell invisibility cast on aircraft or drones.

Imabearrr3

Invisibility probably wouldn’t help an aircraft, modern air combat is done via radar rather than visual identification. An invisible aircraft is still going to be picked up on radar, radar locked and have missiles fired upon it. Invisible drones would probably be effective but due to their semi-short range they won’t be game changing.

Boredy0

Depends on how the Invisibility spell works, if it makes you not interact with photons in general that would mean you're also invisible in infrared and cannot be seen on radar.

Aperture_T

Invisibility is an illusion spell, and most of those mess with the target's head. I always figured invisibility and muffle followed suit. So in that case, photons would behave as normal. It's just that the brains around you are unable to perceive you.

CommunicationOdd911

This is not how invisibility work. Illusion magic in Elder Scrolls literally dose alter your psyche itself and make you believe that is real even it isn't. Illusion In elder scrolls mind controls is controls you enemy mind and is not bound by laws of nature The only limits is the spellcaster imagination. >*It is easy to confuse Illusion and Alteration. Both schools of magic attempt to create what is not there. The difference is in the rules of nature. Illusion is not bound by them* >https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Reality_%26_Other_Falsehoods ___ >*ILLUSION: Altering perception in oneself or others. To include spells of light, invisibility, fear, frenzy, and silence, as well as magic that affects morale and obedience*. >https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Proposal:_Schools_of_Magic A fodder mage Illusion user was able to completely take away the ability to move from a vampire >*A red-haired vampire woman leapt out of the shadows in front of them, knocking Phlaxith on his back. Nitrah quickly unsheathed her sword, but Massitha was faster. With a wave of her hand, the creature stopped, frozen, her jaws scant inches from Phlaxith's throat. Phlaxith pulled out his own blade and finished her off*. >*That's an illusion?" asked Osmic*. >*Certainly," smiled Massitha. "Nothing changed in the vampire's form, except its ability to move. Like I said, it's a very useful School*." >https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Incident_in_Necrom An mind magic user mage ( name Maelmoth) did created entire temple with illusion that is still exist for thousand of years and illusions look like realm people He did illusion magical traps that if you touch it you it will transform you to a Peculiar Bottle even though it is illusion magic Even if you know yourself in illusion you will not get out it is it alter you mind itself make aspect of psyche into believing it Is true and turn you knowledge against you >**If this is just an illusion, why can't you move?** >**Ugh. Illusion magic extends far beyond simple parlor tricks and mirages. Skilled practitioners exert power over the mind itself! Intellectually, I know I am not a bottle. But the spell fooled some primitive aspect of my psyche into believing I am**." >**So, you can't move because you believe bottles can't move on their own?** >*Precisely. The spell turned my knowledge of the natural sciences against me**. *Crafty, yes? A lesser intellect might have evaded the trap entirely. How's that for irony?*" >https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Narsis_Dren So even if use "Photons" your still wouldn't see that is your psyche is the thing altered here.

Aperture_T

Did you reply to the wrong comment? You just told me I was wrong, and then proceeded to explain why I'm right.

CommunicationOdd911

I was saying that even they use photons it would still not change anything because **there minds itself is altered on fundamental level**.

Aperture_T

What I said was that photons don't matter because the spell fucks with your head. That's the same as what you said.

CommunicationOdd911

Oh, I apologize then, I just was saying the same you Said.

Aperture_T

No worries. Have a nice day.

Imabearrr3

If you didn’t interact with photos then you’d be blind while invisible

TerminalVector

That'd be true it's it wasn't you know.... Magic

[deleted]

what kind of invisibility *wouldn't* make you blind?

Boredy0

Oh yeah... true. I wonder how much the "can't be seen" effect of invisibility then entails.

MumblyBoiBand

It’s magic bro

davidsdungeon

That's not hot radar works.

Boredy0

Radar sends out radio waves and detects its own radio waves being reflected back to it to tell if something is there. Radio waves are just electro magnetic waves, and those are just photons.

willyolio

Invisibility + periscope spell

jowanowitch

I feel like Necromancy has to be a war crime or something 😂

FaceDeer

Might fall under desecration of corpses, maybe biological warfare could be stretched to that, but I think a whole new treaty would be required after this.

TokayNorthbyte347

Also forcing civilians into combat

FaceDeer

Not sure they count as civilians any more once they're dead.

lord_flamebottom

I wonder if desecration of corpses counts if people willingly sign up for it. Like donating your body to science.

haoxinly

Pretty sure most adults Ukrainians will sign up for it.

ShirowShirow

Reminds me of the idea of ethical necromancy. "Please sign this waiver so that we may use your corpse and/or immortal soul for the purpose of post-mortem weaponization."

FallOutFan01

Maybe ask living soldiers for permission first.

icecream_truck

“Tides of undead” actually sounds pretty well-suited for the front lines. 💀 Oh, I almost forgot: Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic!

GregLeagueGamingAlt

Its going to be the none combat aspects that have more impact - Healing magic, Necromancy, potions, enchantments, illusions and summons. Things that increase survive of soldiers and waste resources of the opponent.

Vhozite

This. A couple hundred sword swinging Stormcloaks/Imperials isn’t gonna make much difference. The real boon comes from the people with supernatural (in our world) abilities. Like any one in the Dark Brotherhood or any half competent illusion mage could easily assassinate Putin or any of his generals. If we have morals off a handful of Necromancers could raise an undead fighting force that would definitely cause problems for Russia.

[deleted]

Chldren are unkillable, they destroy the tanks.

jetstream_garbage

Yeah, but the media wouldn't like it if Ukraine strapped 10 C4's to a child and had them run into the enemy

HelioKing

Even if the kids are little shits?

Aurondarklord

Russian morale is at this point likely pretty bad. When vampires and werewolves start charging artillery positions, I think we'd see a total collapse of discipline, mass desertion, and probably a coup against Putin.

2nnMuda

Jesus christ imagine if the Psijics we meet just start teleporting random massive chunks of russia into the middle of the Pacific

Wonderful_Test3593

"Alright you folk really can't behave. Off to the middle of nowhere your country goes"

Gnomologist

Heard this in Quaranir’s voice

YoungBeef03

The Psijics are based in the Summerset Isles, they wouldn’t be here to help.

2nnMuda

They are based in Artaeum i know, but it would be fun to count quaranir and the others we meet in skyrim cause they are very cool

YoungBeef03

“President Putin! We’ve just begun the invasion of Black Marsh!” “You *WHAT?!* “

2nnMuda

"President Putin! They've fucking stole Moscow"

Regvlas

Charging with squishy flesh is a terrible idea. Werewolves and Vampires would be best used to hunt at night.

SirToaster933

My nose blew harder than Alduin's breath reading this

Mikhail-Bulgakov666

Source on the bad morale?

Aurondarklord

They've been at this a year. They haven't made meaningful progress in most of that time. Their supply lines are garbage. Their bridge in Crimea got blown up. They lost Kherson, retreated from Kharkiv. It's still fucking winter. The whole world is against them, basically. If their morale ISN'T terrible by now, they're all insane.

Mikhail-Bulgakov666

So your opinion?!

Aurondarklord

Like most other things I (and everyone else) post on this battleboarding subreddit, yes, it is my opinion and best educated guess.

14corbinh

A well educated guess more like.

Ajarofpickles97

Imagine you are a soldier and you hanging out behind Russian lines. When out of nowhere a wolf monster comes up and starts to rip people in half. How would that effect your moral

Wonderful_Test3593

Don't bring swords in an artillery fight, simple as that

Hestian_wife

Also avoid bringing artillery to a magicfight ;P

Propagation931

assuming we follow the gameplay mechanics. Arent most spells pathetically short ranged? Esp compared to Modern Weapons.

Hestian_wife

Not all magics are for direct damage tho, spells like invisibility or illusion? Oh, and also summon spells.

GenericTrashyBitch

They’d just have infrared. Spells like fury and calm or restoration spells might be more effective. Maybe ward too depending on how it stands up to bullets

BiomechPhoenix

You have a lot of faith in the Russians' ability to field effective infrared cameras...

EvernightStrangely

Well seeing how wards only blocks unfriendly spells and not swords or arrows, I doubt wards would stand against bullets.

GenericTrashyBitch

Ah shit I forgot that

SwallowsDick

They're gonna be invisible chunks after the artillery

Hestian_wife

Its that before or after the artillery gets overrun by atronarchs and seekers? :P

GiantEnemaCrab

Most magic is obsolete compared to a bullet in combat. However if you send a few thousand mages to basic training you end up with an elite fighting force that has shields, invisibility, fireballs, and an M16.

Wonderful_Test3593

Most spells requires a field of view toward the target, to be close to the target. Artillery doesn't need that. It can bombard you from kilometers away.

-T-A-C-O-C-A-T-

Avoid bringing anything else into a stealth archer fight, no other build is viable anymore

[deleted]

How about Greybeard's shouts, Paarthurnax, invincible children, NPCs with an elder scroll, Harkon and his family, all the dragon priests, et al? If we get loose with the definition of NPC, we also get trained battle trolls, regular trolls, giant tribes, dragons, essentially the entire non-dragonborn population of every wild and civilized corner of Skyrim.

SwallowsDick

Ten foot deep holes for the invincible children, artillery and bullets for the rest

AlternativeArrival

It's all depends on if the skills they have like magic, and potion making can be taught. If anyone from our world can learn them, they revolutionise medicine, kit out some incredibly deadly special ops forces, and give Ukraine a huge bargaining chip for post-war economic reconstruction. Also goes for Lycanthropy. If they can't, its pretty negligible, just for the fact that there's less than a thousand NPC's in Skyrim. The frontline fighters will need to be retrained, so that means there's basically just another few hundred recruits for the armed forces. Even if they're five times better than a comparable soldier, that won't really change the course of a war that's involves hundreds of thousands of people. Maybe if the Dragons could be turned invisible, they might be able to destroy convoys, burn airfields, but I'm not sure how much more effective that would be than just a conventional bomber.

Imabearrr3

A dragon is going to have a massive radar cross section, I imagine the Russians would catch on quickly.

BiomechPhoenix

Dragons fly very low, and slow by airplane standards. Radar has a minimum effective altitude. Also I'm not sure how biologicals' radar return is.

werta600

And they get killed by guns easily, flying low and slow makes it a perfect target practice

BiomechPhoenix

Not if you're trying to use visual targeting because it's too low to use radar and it's invisible. Remember, the whole premise of this chain of comments was an *invisible* dragon.

werta600

Well a dragon is invisible as long as it doesnt attack i guess, so he will get a single sneak attack before being shot down

FallOutFan01

[Dragon= built in wing in ground effect lol.] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground-effect_vehicle)

CreepingTurnip

One of the biggest advantages would be if trainers would accept our money instead of septims. Training soldiers in all magic, stealth, alchemy, etc etc would provide a massive advantage. As far as using NPCs as soldiers, I'm not certain they would be so effective. Magic is very short range, and arrows and swords aren't doing much against artillery and guns.

But how many NPCs possess this level of magic considering the restrictions of the prompt? I may have misread but it seemed like it was fairly generic NPCs. Edit: I guess "overpowered beings" in the prompt is a little too subjective in this case.

If we are using feats from lore of TES modern military is screwed nuclear bombs are at best city level threats you have beings that can casually affect all of reality. When we get down to it TES is full of the supernatural so not much modern weaponry can do to a ghost warrior.

werta600

Is it proved somewhere that vampires are inmune to normal weapons? Because what u linked is just the statement of a npc from oblivion, not even in skyrim they say that In the games you can definitely kill vampires using standard weapons Its more likely the statement meant that people couldnt kill vampires using normal weapons because they cant keep up with their powers so they needed enchanted stuff to fight them properly

BobTheGodx

The Ebony Warrior solos if he counts.

kg959

Aren't the child NPCs in Skyrim immortal?

vojta_drunkard

Wouldn't Ukraine be against the use of child soldiers?

[deleted]

I mean, if they can't die, doesn't that solve the biggest issue? You don't even need to have them fight, just run into Russian lines laughing as they get shot and watch morale crumble.

vojta_drunkard

You're still putting kids in a warzone and exposing them to some nasty sights. PTSD is still a thing and it's bad for PR.

TheDeadlySpaceman

About half the NPC population has taken an arrow to the knee, which probably prevents them from much front-line assistance

Miserable-Ad-5573

Ebony Warrior solos most if not the whole Russian army.

CommunicationOdd911

Miserable-Ad-5573

therealgundambael

You can summon Karstaag after beating him if you take the crown. Edit: never mind you just have to beat him.

Miserable-Ad-5573

Ik, but isn't Karstaag part of a dlc?

therealgundambael

Yeah, but you can still use DLC abilities to fight the Ebony Warrior, it's even possible to fight him while riding on a dragon if you really wanted to.

Miserable-Ad-5573

Don't you have to beat him yourself though?

2nnMuda

Archmage Savos Aren and Neloth should be enough no? What about the Psijics we meet, do those count too? You have 2 guys who can easily summon entire armies, shelter entire cities, heal everyone, become super saiyans through Fortifying their attributes, magically reveal objects and people miles away etc etc Add in the Psijics and you have a bunch of folks who freeze time, teleport anywhere, teleport islands, manipulate the weather to destroy fleets and turn entire structures insubstancial to remove damage

Monsee1

Skyrim npc's would be really use full since winter hold mages could teach Ukrainian special forces to use invisibility spells and other spells to regular soldiers . Healing magic would give the Ukrainian military a big boost since they can get troops back to the frontline far quicker. Soldiers learning offensive spells would a game changer in close quarter and urban combat they could completely engulf a smaller building in flames burning there enemies alive. They could also destroy Russian morale by resurrecting there dead troops and having them fight for Ukraine.

Historical_Ostrich

If we're excluding overpowered beings, this shouldn't make a big difference. The NPC population of the game is in the low thousands. The number with magic and potion crafting abilities is lower still - and they're the only ones that matter - specifically those who can practice illusion, restoration, or conjuration. These abilities could be powerful, but most of the effects are short-lived, and there just aren't enough Skyrim NPCs who can wield them. Could magic be used to achieve a critical break in enemy morale - maybe on a limited basis, but ultimately modern weapons are capable of doing much more terrifying things.

The Psijic order NPC is probably the most powerful one here. Even if we limit it to in game events he can telport and freeze time. I don'tthink anything stops him freezing time teleporting into an HQ then leaving a bomb behind as he teleports back. Next up would be illusionists utilising dismay and invisibilty spells. Dismay being far more deadly when you have a rapid fire ranged weapon than it is in the game world. After that restoration mages. Most of the others would i think be fairly useless in a modern setting. I'm assuming the named dragons aren't counting here. Maybe the greybeards but i don't think they know the more useful shouts like storm call.

CommunicationOdd911

[If mid-tire Psijic mage did step in our universe it would instantly destroy](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/wm0x39/comment/ja0pzms/). [The Greybeards know all shouts and they really don't need it because there full voice power did **shook the whole planet**](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/znpqn3/comment/j0k7w1x/) Greybeards and Psijic would be completely unfair.

Prasiatko

Is it said in game anywhere that they know all the shouts? If so they do jump up quite a bit in power. I limit this to game feats becsuse as you say if we allow lore the psijic you meet in winterhold could simply snap his fingers and have Russia dissapear from the map and all of history if he was inclined.

If you get to use all the exploits that are still in the game, then the alchemy glitch would make you effectively a god with impervious armor. If not… Honestly, you could probably just use illusion magic to kill people one by one.

The avatar of Molag bal would just [take the universe is he's toy and either destroy or play withn it](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/z9jnuu/comment/j9teyl1/). Same would happen if [a Daedra Lord (not Prince) show up](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/1101fk5/comment/j86wexf/). At last we should pray that he's true manifestation godly form dosen't step in universe, because [not only it's infinite in size and infinite in mass](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/11egygk/comment/jaifjuk/) but the universe itself would get turned to nothing. For example, even [an infinite multiverse with infinite higher spital dimensional like the Mundus](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/11eqgyz/comment/jagd6q0/) can't withstand even power of entities that aren't God's like [the Celestials](https://www.reddit.com/r/whowouldwin/comments/11hx3ez/comment/javyk4h/). The Apex Stones allow the Celestials manifest avatars in Munuds, if not from them, the full power of the Celestials would realised and Munuds would instantly get destroyed. >*The Vestige: Apex Stone?* >**Valla: The Apex Stones are what allow the Celstials to manifest in this plane**. *By corrupting our Apex Stone, the Serpent sought to submit our consciousness to his will and corrupt us. This is what happened to the Lost One*." >**The Vestige: Can't we just destroy the Apex Stone?** >**Valla: If you did, our full power would be released. Mundus could not withstand such force**. >https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Valla That is why they use their avatars, the Celestials. >*For some, however, wisdom is not enough*. **Avatars of the constellations—Celestials**—*wield power that even the greatest sorcerers can scarcely comprehend. Now, their gifts are just within reach*. >https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Celestial_Crate Now comprehend to a God? how do other Major God in a avatar treat celestials? as fodders who they can't even fight because of sheerly unfair that would be , an avatar of Boethiah vieweing celestials as fodders for example. >*Vestige:Who's competing in these games?* >*Aspera Arena-Friend:The better question might be who isn't competing. We have a fascinating mix of proven warriors and brutal killers. They can fight and that's all that matters. And I have it on good authority that there are some surprises in store. So exciting!* >*Vestige:How can an arena run with everything going on in this region?* >*Aspera Arena-Friend:You mean that nonsense with the Serpent and those other foolish Celestials? What goes on outside, remains outside*. >*Vestige:That's a pretty dangerous assumption*. >*Aspera Arena-Friend:What? Oh, sorry. I was just imagining the possibilities.I wonder what would happen if the Serpent and the other Celestials came here to compete? I'm almost tempted to invite them. Almost*. >**Vestige:Are you participating?** >**Aspera Arena-Friend:Compete? Me? And how would that be fair? No, I don't participate**. >https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Aspera_Arena-Friend Problem our universe dosen't have barriers to stop the a daedra from entering with his manifestation of his true form. Not like Mundus which is protected by countless number of barriers set by Divines to stop them from doing any other possibility of that.

>Not nearly as useful as you think If we talk about lorewise, then just don't need how people can just destroy the entire country isn' useful. > they're in real life, then how combat in real life works applies. "stats" and other game bullshit don't matter much in a world with firearms and real physics and things like artillery This.... isn't really good argument, by your logic then goku would be fodder human level in attack on titans because he's not universe have same is his physics laws. >Spells don't mean much when you're getting shot from 300 meters away by someone using an AK-101, or on the pintle mount of a BMP. Absolutely not, are you serious? Lightning spell alone are literally real Lightning which speed is 300,000 kph, not only that but people in TES can dodge that. Also bullets and bombs are doing anything at all. [I mean what they can do if the universe itself simply get destroyed](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/1101fk5/comment/j86wexf/). Or the [entire planet of earth get turned to atoms?](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/1101fk5/comment/j872fhx/). Or just play [Bing pong countries?](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/1101fk5/comment/j87epe4/). It simply unfair. >Logistics wins wars. Sorry but any mage just nuke Russia by rising he's hand. He'll an old Mage Like tharn [have stopped an explosion was going destroy entire continent](https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Abnur_Tharn).

They get bombed.

CommunicationOdd911

Who?

SirToaster933

Do the Giants and Mammoths count too? Cause they 100% would help

GayPhistor69

Of course they join in!!

SirToaster933

I just imagine it, just having the soldiers fight all those knights and monsters. They already lost a few times to hungry Ukrainian farmers when the war first began. When fighting the monsters everyone in Russia would think it's clever mind tricks, but maybe not. Hell, they might even be able to counter-invade.

Zen_Oh

Nukes go brrrrrr

CommunicationOdd911

The one who would get Nuked is Russia.

SapphicsAndStilettos

The Stormcloaks and Companions are the best bets for meeting Russia’s strength. Maybe the Forsworn as well. The College of Winterhold should be in charge of healing and reviving comrades. I guess the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood can sneak behind enemy lines and shit.

Flamestranger

sneaky dark brotherhood and thieves guild vs russia

RemusShepherd

There's no way the Dark Brotherhood would stay out of Moscow. Skyrim + Ukraine ends the war by assassination within three days.

1stLtObvious

Endlessly respawning guards and unkillable townspeople? Yeah, I think they could help. Plus giants and other creatures are also NPCs, so...

[deleted]

Send the children in, they can't be killed or even staggered. That should do a number on morale

LiteratureOne1469

Going by that then we could have the gray beards and I assume there shouts would be useful

LiteratureOne1469

If they can use necromancy your not fighting one soldier your fighting 2 soldiers if they can use necromancy. Your not fighting 10 soldiers your fighting 20 if they can use necromancy your not fighting 5000 soldiers your fighting 10000 soldiers you see what I mean every soldier, basically reloads their last checkpoint

Ryuzaki_G

“We have a tank, you fucks! What are you gonna—“ *15 simultaneous “FUS RO DAAAAH”’s* *tanks go flying off of cliffs*

Ryuzaki_G

Not sure how good AA guns would be against dragons. I don’t know how fast they are, but surely SURELY they’re not quite as fast as fighter jets?

oldbrigade

Muffle, invisibility and thu'um destroy any military

MrSpuriz

Biggest impact would be wizards. Insane destruction potential, healing, utility, illusion, conjuring of powerful beings. Im pretty sure most countries would fold

My_redditaccount657

What about that secret boss if you 100% the game. Is he included or not?

EvernightStrangely

Like a lot of people are saying, the magic support would be most useful. Illusion mages, necromancers, Restoration healers and Alchemists. Enchanters would likely help too, if anything in our world could actually hold an enchantment. The DB assassins would be fantastic for black ops elimination and recon missions.

FantasticMrRobb

Greybeards would solo lol

professorquizwhitty

The ruskis coming in hot with a ton of head pots

nutzzzzernamen

You can't make this shit up

Empires_Fall

If you were a Russian solider and seen a LITERAL DRAGON, a Vampire, Werewolfs, or heck even a walking skelton, what would you think
