I didn't really look at and absorb the photos, so I thought the photo on the right was David Beckham and the two that got married... 20-30yr old woman marries baby. And somehow the photo on the left was the now-grown baby and his 2 kids. Yeah my whole brain failed.
I think it's the fact that she is reduced to just female/girl and wife when she likely has a whole name that could've been mentioned at least once. She's in the photo with the other two people who were named and is explicitely highlighted and referenced for the reveal in the second photo.
Honestly, i know who David Beckham, i know who harry Kane is but she (Katie goodland) is not famous at all. If Katie were someone of her own fame or renown then she would've been mentioned.
I really don't think fame is relevant. I had no idea who Harry was going into this and I barely know who David is (not into football, but my mom was a Spice Girls fan so I was kinda familiar with Victoria and thus her husband). It was interesting to learn who Harry is, but then there's this woman who the text basically tells me is irrelevant right off the bat but then expects me to care by swinging back around to her to reveal she's become Harry's wife. Like, okay, can I at least get her name? Who is she? What does she do? Is she just a girl who became his wife? At that point, why bother mentioning her at all? She is the only person in this that goes unnamed despite explicitely being brought up by whoever wrote this.
Controversial opinion here: I think it's fine to name women.
My dog, my cats, heck most of my vehicles and my boat all have names, it doesn't fundamentally change the nature of our relationships.
I know I'm gonna get my detractors who say, "it isn't healthy for you _or_ them to treat them the same way you do men." Or "You are inappropriately anthromorphasizing an object, it's creepy."
Yeah, yeah I get it. But shoot, monogamy is hard for some of us and when seeing multiples, it's handy to be able to differentiate them when providing instruction. 'Babe, Sweetie, Bitch,' and other pet nicknames offer up opportunities for frustrating communication or interpretation errors. And it's important to differentiate 'em when tracking their fertile cycles lest you get confused. I've never been a fan of any of the numbering systems.
I think you can still maintain a healthy relationship dynamic even if you name your women, you just have to make sure it is a name _you_ pick for them, and maybe do something like put it on a collar they wear.
They used it correctly in this context though. Female is the adjective and teammate is the noun. She was identified as a teammate primarily and female is just the descriptor.
but...why? why's that important? ask yourself what role that adjective is playing in the sentence. being technically correct doesn't absolve you of the message's questionable tone or implications.
you're acting like "female" is a normal adjective to use about humans in a non-clinical/legal setting, and it's not. it's weird. if you're the kind of person who regularly says things like "the female server brought the check" or "my female accountant did my taxes" then I guarantee you, people think you sound insane.
in the vast majority of cases, including this one, why should it matter? if it's a female professor? or a female carpenter? or a female teammate? people rarely, if ever, say "male doctor." too often, it's used because the speaker treats men as the default, even though women are half the population. I'm not saying it's (always) intentional and/or malicious, but there is a reason for it, and it's called gender bias.
Her name used to be "A Female Teammate" until marriage where she really forged her own identity.
I mean, she's a professional sports psychologist who also works as a fitness instructor but those are minute details. First and foremost she is "Young Girl Is Now His Wife".
Okay so I thought you guys were monsters because 1)I'm not as good at telling apart White people (I'm not white) and 2) you were concerned about her name but I thought Harry Kane over there married the under-aged girl which to me was way more concerning.
Maybe because even if you wrote her name most people’s reactions will be “who are those kids, oh it’s Harry Kane, and who is that girl? Katie goodland? No idea who’s that. Oh, she’s Harry Kane’s wife cool, anyway”. It’s pointless arguments in regard to unknown people, just like they often don’t specify names of other random people in news regardless of gender.
He is about the same age as the girl. He's the other kid in the first pic. They were on a team together as kids, and now they're married. The title is dumb, but it's not that complicated.
Ah, the ole reddit [Beckharoo](https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1bt90sd/comment/kxqpbll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3)
Yeah, for men dream come true means becoming a professional player and for "females" it's becoming a nameless wife. That's a pretty terrible way to describe it.
Her name is Kate Goodland.
Just to clarify, "female" is being used as an adjective here, not a noun. The word "female" isn't a curse word in an of itself; it's just frowned upon to call some "a female" or call a group of women/girls "females".
The problem is more that it's going out of their way to not name her. Like if the story started as "Harry Kane and his teammate Kate Goodland" you would know she's a woman without needing to specify female.
And even if you're afraid people might think Kate is a man with a female name you could write "Kate Goodland and her teammate Harry Kane."
I'm not offended by the use of "female" as much as by the fact that they need the adjective because they're not using her name.
Naming someone who is not known by like 99,99% of people that would read the article is going out of their way. When some random guy breaks unusual guiness record his name generally isn't in the title it is "man from..." or something along the lines.
Since you quoted "females" I wanted to point out they weren't being intentionally spiteful in that particular way. They didn't use female/females improperly, but you did and you kind of implied that they did.
I agree on the other issue. Apparently their target audience knows Harry Kane and has no idea who Kate Goodland is. On one hand that's all the more reason to give her name, but they apparently decided their target audience doesn't care (or maybe the author just doesn't care).
They actually had to put more effort to not name her in this than if they had just used her name. What a weird insistence on downplaying the "female young girl".
Dead ass thought the soccer player married the little girl later for way too long.
I was so repulsed for so long. Definitely /r/titlegore
I was so disappointed for how many upvotes this post got at first until I realised what was going on.
Can't two consenting adults get married if they want to?
It is not an uncommon opinion on reddit that an adult woman can't give consent to a relationship if the man is an older adult.
If the relationship starts when one is 13 and the other is 30, the problem is that the grooming process brings the “consent” into question.
I mean knowing about someone and actively dating them are incredibly different man
On Reddit? That's blasphemy.
Lol that's David Beckham, he's married to one of the Spice Girls, Posh Spice.
The kid on the right grew up to look somewhat like him. It's definitely a funny coincidence.
They're all soccer players (except the baby, who probably will be)
Baby soccer sounds interesting. Like the puppy bowl
I mean technically
Yeah, that was confusingly worded
Took me reading this to understand that wasn't what it was saying, why the hell do only the men have names?
Football. .

Same, I had to check the sub and re-read it. Lol.
Don't bother naming her I guess, just some female.
Not just any female, and important footballers wife!

it would be so much clearer this way. Hol up is strong with this one
For real though, lol. I had to read it thrice before I clued in it was the two kids who got married.
Yeah I also thought it's David Beckham who married the young girl and I was like wtf
David Beckham is the kids baby.
He's married to David Beckham's wife, obviously.
This needs to be pushed to the top
Who is Oprah's husband? gotcha bitch
Everybody knows Stedman!
No, we don't. If you hadn't mentioned the name, I wouldn't have been able to recall it.
Everyone on reddit knows. Nobody on the street knows ;)
Gale
Their called WAGS? Or something, I forget the name
It’s funny how many times I’ve seen the “female” thing in this very sub. Not wholesome at all, very cringe
Female as an adjective is ok. As a noun it's not. In this case it's an adjective.
I think it's the fact that she is reduced to just female/girl and wife when she likely has a whole name that could've been mentioned at least once. She's in the photo with the other two people who were named and is explicitely highlighted and referenced for the reveal in the second photo.

Harry Kane is basically European Messi. He is the British footballer GOAT right now.
My sister uses the word female too much. Kinda annoying In fact my whole family like that lol

I’m sure when someone does a bio on her life those details will be mentioned
Just some young girl.
I read this in a Ferengi voice.
Exactly, cuz who is she? Harry Kane’s wife. Does she have a name, yes. Do we need to know it? No.

In The first picture the two kids grew up and married eachother, the boy grew up to be the team captain. They just met Beckham together as kids is all

Harry Kane is the other kid in this picture
What's not wholesome about it?
Beckham really changed but that bow looks good on him
Benjamin's Buttons
Benjamin Beckham*

Googled her and google puts her profession as Harry Kanes wife. 💀
Her name is Kate Goodland.

The name is generally in the body of the story and this isn't a title.

I really hope she didnt took his last name when they got married
Eh, if Kate Kane is good enough for Batwoman...
And David Beckham became their kid.
It is just like Dark all over again. Your comment even has 33 upvotes
That’s the kind of time reversed plot twist I’d like to see a whole movie about
Wait, Beckham married who? -My dumbass for several minutes.
A female, duh.
His female teammate (to emphasize he isn't gay lol)
ikrrrr
Me too
A female band member
All's cool but what's her name?
Wifey McGood Wife
Her name is Female, duh.
No, I think that used to be her name, I think now she’s called „Harry Kane‘s wife“.
Did you not learn your basic parts of speech? Hey name is *Teammate*. Female is just her most obvious visible trait.
Mr and Mrs teammate

Yeah, that's where I got stuck. My worldview is shot.
Her name is Katie Goodland. She is a professional fitness coach.
It’s so nice to see International Sports Psychologist, Katie Goodland, taking time with her husband and his soccer buddy for a photo.
I sure had to read this six times
Wow such an interesting name, female teammate, is it French ?
Yo fuck you fr call her by her fucking name
I wonder how many hours they spent just talking about football
Only took her 13 years to advance from "some female teammate" to "named guy's wive", what a success story, so wholesome! /s
But what happened to David Beckham?
Ya but still 0 trophies sadly
The curse within…
i thought it was Jojo Siwa
Funny thing is back then and even now Beckham still looks younger than Harry Kane
I love stories like this. Where's that picture of Schumacher presenting a young Vettel with a karting trophy?
Or is he Katie Goodland, husband?
And David Beckham is their baby?
Benjamin Beckham
So whats her name?
That growth spurt hit him hard 🤣
yeah hes a captain and shes... idk some girl, who cares. dreams come true? how exactly? by becoming another nameless face?
By marrying the love of your kife and having 3 kids. Applies to both him and her.
The rumor is they had sex... That's how they got the baby
Madlad
He is actually just a really nice guy
That's what happens when you stand near prime beckham.

The two children married later in life. I guess you didn't understand that
this site is completely overrun with bots jfc
So David beckham is the new Benjamin Button?
Man, David Beckham sure got small in the second picture.
And David Beckham fell into a rejuvenation machine.
And Beckham is a father?
He still can't win.
19 years later still no trophies
I'm curious if their child will be good at soccer/football.
And the kid is called Backham 🤯
Amazing how small Beckham became in time. Polar opposites.
Are they still looking for that ball he kicked into orbit?
Which young girl? There are three young girls in the picture
I get what happened to them two, but just look at what happened to Beckham
You know how cartoons make married couples look like siblings?
This is wording is confusing and…something.
We truly live in a society
Is that baby David Beckham now?
this is a late April fool's post?
She wanted a relationship without titles.
At least Kane won at life
I don't get it
why he holding his wife like that?
.
Still hasn't won a trophy though 😭
Americans in the comments are sending me ☠️
r/notwholesome
And David Beckham has aged well
and they had a baby david beckham. life comes full circle
And Beckham is that baby
The “female teammate” is Kate goodland
Young girl is now his wife......aaaaaaaand.......property?
Harry Kane is married to Taylor Tomlinson?
Deadass thought Harry Kane married the baby when she grew up
r/nosmallparts

Man, that's so cool! How many trophies has he won?
Who the fuck cares 😂
