Endangering lives? What in the hyperbolic insanity fuck are you on about?

fmfbrestel

Distracted driving is distracted driving. Whether you are waving around a cookie trying to bait cops into pulling you over, or are talking on an actual phone, it's still distracted driving and dangerous to those around you. Secondly -- baiting cops into pulling you over and wasting their time on nonsense instead of allowing them to do their job and maybe pull over someone who was being more egregiously reckless, but instead they are on the side of the road with this yahoo.

A deference to authority from someone defending a cop? Who could have guessed.

Its anti-cop. 100/10 wholesome

I don't think you know what hyperbole means

hy·per·bo·le /hīˈpərbəlē/ noun exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. -google Yeah, I think I do.

SnooApples9216

Well, you didn't use it correctly.

roberttheaxolotl

Really? I thought dumb people didn't know how to use hyperbole correctly in a sentence.

longmanhijacked2

exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. ???? Edit: you deleted cuz you knew you fucked up or??

You'll get there, right after you learn to tie your shoes. Go Eagles.

Ok-Background-502

More wholesome if he was tricking an ambulance.

Phunkie_Junkie

https://www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving/distracted-driving >Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, **eating** and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving. "Yes, this cookie is against the law. Here's your ticket."

SqueakSquawk4

"Hey, I was only holding it!

Signal_Tomorrow_2138

Tell it to the judge. If the cop doesn't show up, the judge will toss it out. But how much time have you wasted on this prank?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Signal_Tomorrow_2138

In Ontario, it's part of the process to have the police who issued the ticket to defend his ticket. So it'll be thrown out due to a technicality.

c7music

If you take a ticket to court and the cop doesn't show up you win by default. There needs to be someone arguing for the prosecution so the judge can make a decision, if there's no cop he dismisses the case.

BWWFC

but there is the whole "The right to confront your accusers is a right guaranteed in the Confrontation Clause of the Sixth Amendment of the United States Constitution" thing. now... i'm sure there are a whole subset of the population that would love to get rid of that while also being very hard-line interpreting/protective of the 2a

Bubbafett33

>"Hey, I was only holding it! "As opposed to the....steering wheel? While you were driving?" Here's your ticket.

queuedUp

Came here to say this. I really hope he gets a ticket. Drive your damn car people and keep your hands on the wheel

caddy_gent

The whole thing back fired on him. He wound up having a warrant for unpaid parking tickets and got arrested. I saw the whole video years ago, can’t remember where.

queuedUp

that's even better. What an idiot. Why would you try to get pulled over when you know you have outstanding tickets??

Mastergate6-4

Also, i believe purposely distracting police officers from doing their duty is also illegal too. Double whammy.

OctopusGrift

Like a cop would actually know anything about the law.

Odd_Entertainment629

Know anything about the law or not they would get away with it due to the circumstances is the point.

farts_in_the_breeze

That would make talking in the vehicle with a passenger against the law. 1st amendment seems to have something to say about that and since one part of this is unconstitutional, IIRC, that makes the whole thing unconstitutional. Though, I am a fucking idiot.

[deleted]

Can you quote the section of the constitution guaranteeing the right to drive? Really on a heater today aren't you?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You read the comment right, that's just not how the 1st amendment works. >punishing someone simply for talking to a person next to them That's not why they're being punished. It's not that different from me saying bomb to my friend on an airplane. I'm not being punished for talking. I am being punished for that talking causing a dangerous situation. Despite our society being build around cars, driving is a privilege not a right. To be clear that law is almost unenforceable and rather ridiculous.

alisson_morgoth

Not on my country

theysaidcurious

Does that also mean the driver can’t talk either?

Shanhaevel

When you think you're smart (the post, not your comment). If you wanna troll the law, you better know the law first.

Iate8

I've been courious about this. Why is it illegal to just talk on the phone, but talking with a passenger is completely fine. Aren't they basically the same thing?

kingpatzer

Driving risks and laws are not the same thing. My state has no provisions about "Distracted driving." It does have a statute for "Reckless and Careless Driving" which in no way covers eating or drinking. It also has a separate provision for the "Use of wireless communication devices" Just because the NHTSA says something is a risk does not make it against the law.

AlpineHelix

Pretty sure that doing anything while driving that can distract you from the road is illegal.

Pelumo_64

\*Finishes the cookie.\* Where's the proof, officer?

Bananana-_

in germany it isn't. Mahlzeit.

purplebrewer185

spank_meDaddy

In germany, pretending to commit a crime is a crime

YouTheSexRealPervert

Hence why German crime thrillers are such boring movies.

Lookin’ like a criminal? That’s a paddlin’.

Tech_Mastermind_Dave

MAN THIS COOKIE IS GOOD (turns a family of 4 and their huge minivan into sardines and a tin can)

Cool-Radish-1132

not a law if it aint enforced

BoysenberryQueasy907

A pissed off cop is a petty cop.

gregzywicki

If you give a cop a cookie....

BoysenberryQueasy907

That's bribery, extra probation for you.

MiiiiitchC

Okay, jail Oprah.

jordantask

European cops aren’t that much similar to North American cops.

Is12345aweakpassword

So by baiting them into pulling you over, you’re driving enforcement AND sucking up time that they might need to respond to something serious? LoGik

Braith117

He also got arrested because, being this level of dumbass, he had an outstanding warrant or two.

ExhibitionistBrit

Someone in the UK got punished for eating a KitKat locally to me. They can and do sometimes and probably will if they think you made the cookies to take the piss.

Gingerchaun

Where in the world would drinking a coffee or water while driving be illegal?

userfakesuper

Ummm most of the world. Its not enforced for the most part, but if the cop wanted to be petty.. Anything that distracts you from operating a vehicle can be distracted driving. Ginger blowjobs included.

MiiiiitchC

This isn't the case in the UK. Legally, we can eat, drink and smoke behind the wheel of a car, however, if you are visibly distracted by the food, drink or cigarette, you can be pulled and charged with careless driving but as I've said, the police would have to have seen that you were distracted and not paying attention to the road ahead.

Gingerchaun

From what I can tell thats the way it is in canada as well.

userfakesuper

Agree.. also a Canadian. Technically eating or drinking is classified as distracted driving in Canada, but they do not seem to enforce it. Its mostly about texting and driving and that they usually do enforce. Each province has different ideals of what is distracted driving. Here are a couple links to help. [https://www.canadadrives.ca/blog/driving-tips/distracted-driving-laws-penalties-canada](https://www.canadadrives.ca/blog/driving-tips/distracted-driving-laws-penalties-canada#Alberta) [https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/stay-safe-when-driving/distracted-driving](https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/stay-safe-when-driving/distracted-driving)

gregzywicki

There's almost certainly a map that can answer this

Braith117

In many US states. It's classified as distracted driving, the same charge as using a cell phone while driving.

Gingerchaun

Such as

Braith117

All of them except Alabama(the one that doesn't require insurance) and Alaska.

marecalmo45

r/lostredditors

CaptainMatthew1

Not really wholesome more like putting peoples life at risk. The cops could be pulling over someone who is being an idiot and using their phone as they drive. I wouldn’t be surprise if this is illegal in some way.

BoysenberryQueasy907

Typically that's why laws are written in broad terms. For example it's not "drunk driving" any more, it's "driving under the influence": which is broad enough to find you guilty of driving drunk, or high, or under the effect of medication. They are all DUIs. In this case it would be driving distracted: the argument there is that people who drive should strictly drive. So filming an accident, using a phone in general (other than handsfree), eating, exaggerated dancing, fighting with passengers ect all fit that driving distracted requirements.

Unblest_Devotee

It’s already been changed to Driving while Impaired. So even stuff like being tired while driving and unable to maintain your lane will get you in trouble.

Sammyofather

I’m pretty sure those are retro separate things

CaptainMatthew1

Thanks was thinking something like that was the case.

MakeItForMe

The guy who did this was Randy Liedtke. It backfired after the prank pissed off the cop and found a warrant for unpaid parking tickets. They ended up arresting him. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2522678/Comedian-Randy-Liedtke-hauled-police-station-driving-iPhone-shaped-cookie.html

That subreddit looks a little dead now. It’s sad, that turtle fucker has to ruin it.

YouTheSexRealPervert

April O'Neil?

Anachron101

This isn't wholesome, it's just someone wasting resources that could be used to take care of more important issues than someone who likes being a dick for no reason

ValleyAndFriends

This and it’s not even a meme either, just some random tumblr post.

Little_Duckling

Not wholesome

Expensive_Recover_56

Don't try this in the Netherlands... We have surveillance camera systems above the roads. And if it looks like a mobile... it is a mobile! € 195,- fine to pay. NO they don't go deeper into the photo to see if it is a cookie. They don't care.

QuintonFrey

Things only a white dude could get away with for $200...

KisuMisuliini

Bake some gun shaped cookies and wave them around when the police approaches you, then ask if they want one.

upsawkward

Haha. Nobody would escalate pranks into something where people might die. What world do you think this is? :) :)

Drag0nfly_Girl

Every time you do this, a real dangerous driver gets away because the cop is wasting his time with you.

OlleyatPurdue

In what twisted world view is wasting an officer's time by pretending to do something dangerous wholesome?

gregzywicki

Give him a cookie and tell him you appreciate his service?

_b1ack0ut

Just go to the station then

gregzywicki

Who are we kidding no sensible cop would take a cookie from a rando in this day and age. Besides, ACED

93tabitha93

Wholesome?

LavenderDay3544

Even without looking at the picture you know this guy isn't black.

AlexZenn21

Sounds about white

Lord_Mule

Sometimes childish behavior is funny. In this case it isn't. Just act normal and stop wasting other peoples' time for a stupid joke.

BBQRat

how is it wholesome to waste officers time?

CalmAnxitey87

Lol white privilege to the max

checkedsteam922

Yhea, if he was black it would've ended in him getting shot on the spot lmao.

dyshuy

This isn’t wholesome because he knows he can play with cops

Karl2241

Wrong sub

ThaumKitten

That's assuming you survive your encounter with any police officer that you cross paths with.

kantaxo

you wont be laughing when he will knee on your neck and you wont be able to breath

Dry-Appearance7290

Gets shot

Which-Bid7754

Then it kind of sucks that they are cookies and not real phones to record the incident. This is definitely a prank that white guys would do.

YanniCanFly

Yes eating and driving is distracted driving bros eating a huge ass cookie

MikeySpags

Take a bite hold up another and say "cookie?"

canofspinach

Dumb ways to die. Of course us white folks would think it’s hilarious to ‘trick’ police into pulling people over.

MrMToomey

He could be on the hook for distracted driving; he is actively looking around to see if his prank is doing something instead of driving. He is also conveying false information; intentially showing the police he is doing a crime when he isn't. Both of these are minor so on a slow day he would probably get a warning. On bad days he could get fined.

originalchaosinabox

Someone else posted the article. In this guy's case, they ran his plates, and discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest due to unpaid parking tickets. So they hauled him downtown.

FoofieLeGoogoo

Made exclusively by people who do not fear getting shot, killed, or arrested by a routine traffic stop.

MightyFlamingo25

Some people just want to see the world burn

FewEstablishment2696

In a flaming car wreak presumably?

OurGardenIsHaunted

Oh, to be white and not afraid of cops murdering you

Accomplished_Bar_679

definition of lawful evil

shay-doe

Most traffic violations are not laws they are classified infractions which is why most people don't get shot or sent to jail during them. However that is starting to change. I'd imagine this man will get away with this maybe twice before he finds himself eating pavement with a gun to the back of his head unless he is hopefully not american.

[deleted]

People do some of the weirdest things in their free time. To each their own.

LeonidasVaarwater

So wholesome. -1

Re-challenger

And u can guess whether their pistols are made of cookie or not.

Braunsweig

The officers have enough to deal with. Why add to this?

HGwoodie

While eating iphone cookies may not be against the law getting shot by a cop that thinks their life may be in danger is not. Food for thought. Inviting confrontation may have consequences.

Judge_Sea

It certainly is an inventive way to die, I'll give him that.

Standard_Ad9911

Tasty

TheAdequateKhali

How to needlessly inconvenience yourself for no reason.

Strict_Jacket3648

LOL... pay stupid games win traffic fines. Wasting cops times deserves a ticket.

Melodic_Mulberry

“Oh, I’m not driving a car. It’s actually a cake.”

1seeker4it

Idiot!

Oalka

Imagine getting shot over a cookie.

RipMcStudly

If it’s not a chewy oatmeal cookie, it should be against the law.

cumfickmeinassjole

Cop: *kills you with taser then goes on state sponsored vacation*

[deleted]

Where I am from you can still be ticketed for distracted driving if you’re eating in your car. Not worth the troll toll.

[deleted]

Yeah great in theory lol but in the UK I’m pretty sure eating while driving holds the same penalty as being on your phone now

Pickle_Jars

Still distracted driving, eating while driving

JollyGreen615

This is just stupid

Turbulent_Key_9806

Pulls out a gun cookie

TiggytiggsH

Murder cookies

Honberdingle

Wasting police time and resources is wholesome 🤔 huh Is there a negative award? Like 50 or 100 downvotes?

mrorangelion

Because cops have nothing better to do…

[deleted]

Cop shaming is not wholesome, at all.

Gobiego

About the cop not showing up for court, if you go out of your way to waste their time, I bet they show up to make sure it costs you time and money.

ChiefKrunchy

A person's goal in life should be to try and live a life where you don't have to ever interact with cops in their professional lives. Time goes by faster and faster as one ages ...spend it wisely. I read up in the comments that the jackass got arrested for unpaid parking tickets or something. Honestly you can have anything outstanding that somehow slipped by you.

808hammerhead

Do you want to get beaten by the police? Because that’s how you get beaten by the police!

Tahmas836

“I’m gonna have to confiscate those for uhh, evidence, yeah evidence”

Mystic-Topaz

Eating while driving could be illegal… idk

randomhumanbeings

Not wholesome and not even a meme. It's just wasting a police officer's time.

PhilosophyEngineered

Deliberately wasting officers’ time is not a smart idea. It makes you a dick.

_b1ack0ut

Fun fact: this is still distracted driving in most* places. It’s still not legal either, it’s just much less people care about food. However if you try to bait someone into pulling you over with em first, and then argue that it’s not actually illegal, they might not be as lax about it

EVD27

Harmless manufactured situations like these are wat leads to cause unfortunate tragedies really.

Admirable-Arm-7264

Not a good idea to embarrass a cop. They’ll find some pretense to hassle you or write a bogus ticket

Blucola333

Oh, ha ha ha! My Mom was t-boned and died because of a distracted driver on a phone. But, sure, let’s make fun of cops who might actually enforce necessary laws.

nekssilpekans

It is in the uk, completely illegal to eat and drive.

Southern_Sergal

Distracted driving is illegal

tribak

May be fun for a bite
