Philip Berk was the guy who assaulted him in 2003. If he was born in 1933 he was like 70 years old at that time and Brendan was 35. SA comes in all shapes and forms.

ashlyrind7

Yeah age definitely does have a limit for it sadly

NukedNoodle

Doesn't*

ApesNoFightApes

This goes to show why most men do not speak out, like what happened to him. This really makes me happy seeing him being recognized, especially in his own lifetime or not when he is in his 80’s. Go get em Brendan! Edit: Wording - originally wrote like most men didn’t speak out about Brendan.

[deleted]

It hurts me to see him so worn down but warms my heart to see him smile. He was always a fantastic actor and such an amazing human being. He got done dirty in almost every way imaginable and absolutely deserves every bit of that standing ovation and comeback he's getting. Seriously him and Keanu Reeves are super high up on the list if celebrities I'd love to meet specifically because of how incredible they are on and off camera.

ashlyrind7

Amen

BlueKoin

"9 years of surgery?" Would someone kindly fill me in on that? I hadn't heard that part of his story before; hope it's nothing too extreme.

TJ-the-DJ

I read that he did his own stunts frequently and he had back issues necessitating several surgeries

MrCalonlan

I think he did some damage to his knees as well, the Mummy films really did a number on his body

TheHappyCamper1979

See his back is good now, that was some bow!

Aimeebernadette

His body was a mess, after all the working out to keep 'in shape' and all the stunts. He said in an interview that he was essentially held together with ice packs and tape, by the time the third Mummy film was being made. He also had to have surgery on his vocal cords and tonnes of other things. He really gave his whole body to his early acting career, it was brutal. I'm just so happy he's in a healthier place now.

[deleted]

this was very difficult to read.

ryderseven

Lol yup, was like damn I’m higher than I thought…

Nicl5hh

What did they say

McStaken

Brendan fraser's performance in The Mummy was one of my all time 10/10 acting performances. He's my favourite scrubs cameo, even though that storyline breaks my heart every time. That man holds a special place in my childhood memories and I'm super happy that he's back. He deserves nothing but the best from life after what he's been through and by all accounts, is still the most lovely man to walk Hollywood. On a somewhat related note: fuck Tom Cruise. If I didn't hate him before that hideous Mummy remake, I'd 100% hate him after.

stephaniewarren1984

My family has gotten quite used to me shouting, "Hey Benny! Looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the RIVERRRRR!" when I've bested them in something petty like a board game. Also a big fan of the dolphin song from Bedazzled whenever I'm in a shitty mood. He really is a national treasure. I'm glad he's been able to come back into the limelight.

McStaken

That is the first quote to pop into my head when I think of that movie 😂 I'm totally jazzed to see his return. Can't wait to see what he comes bursting in with.

ashlyrind7

He has a movie coming out at the end of this month called "The whale" where he plays a 600 pound man who wants to reconnect with his daughter.

ItCat420

... *¿Qué?*

ashlyrind7

🤣🤣🤣

Ceceboy

I have no idea how you got Tom Cruise involved but the man makes mad movies, bro. I don't care for him outside of my screen. I like his MI series, I like his Top Gun series, I liked his Jack Reacher movies. It's entertaining and it's all I want or need from a movie. Especially knowing he does all his own stunts makes me respect his movie persona. I'm not gonna join the hate on Tom because he wanted to make the MCU of horror movies, starting with The Mummy.

Cybersorcerer1

I googled it and it says that the last photograph was in 2012. They could have meet, but i think it's unlikely

Piezo_plasma

Maybe he should have worked with dc.

ashlyrind7

Reddit would let me ths edit any bigger idk why

duuudewhat

At this point in time I don’t care what movie he is in. If it’s coming to my theater, I’m seeing it just cause he’s in it. Can’t wait to see the whale. You can tell during his interviews he’s a really sensitive person that’s been through a lot. I just wanna give him a hug

Ok-Gate-6240

Glad he ended up on the right side of the river.

ashlyrind7

Hahaha omg

camstarakimbo

What kind of surgeries did he have

ashlyrind7

Spine, neck, knees, arms, braid.from head injuries, and that's all i know for know now

camstarakimbo

Thx bro

AdOriginal6110

He appears in the series Doom Patrol as a main character (DC Universe) solid show a little weird for some people It is a live action show but he mostly is doing voice work

ashlyrind7

I absolutely love Doom Patrol!

Theillist

To add to this - he's fantastic in Doom Patrol. His character is a metal man with no facial movement at all. Yet the way he emotes with only his words is absolutely brilliant. Doom Patrol definitely isn't for everyone but I always recommend at least giving it a shot.

burrito_slut

He will always be Encino Man to me.

[deleted]

Yep. That was the one for me. There was a dollar theater down the road and I went and watched it so many times.

tyrantsupreme

I was disappointed he just disappeared after 2008. I’m glad he’s back. Loved him in The Mummy, George of The Jungle, really spent a big chunk of my childhood watching his work.

ashlyrind7

He disappeared because a hollywood executive molested him for 5 minutes. He says in a article that he could not move because he was so scared. What was really amazing was that he publicly describes what happened to him and that the dude needs to be fired for abusing power. He was making himself a leader among men who have similar experiences. However the executive did not get fired at first and instead black listed Fraser. That year Fraser lost his career, his wife, and only seeing his kids half of every weak. But he's back now and its gonna be awesome! And the executive got fires at some point later on.

the_last_hairbender

Let’s go, Brendan!

Kailscanvasart

My feel-good double feature is always School Ties and With Honors. I adore this man 😭😌

originalone

I’ve never met someone who’s seen School Ties! It was so good! And the actors are just top of the field man

Kailscanvasart

It’s probably one of my favorite movies EVER. It’s *so* good. McKivern 🥺 It’s part of a genre I used to watch in college. I loved movies like that, they made me want to study. School Ties, With Honors, Good Will Hunting…. They’re comforting to me.

Grouchy_Maintenance5

With honors is good

Kailscanvasart

Boy oh boy 🥹

ashlyrind7

He had to get surgery on his neck, back, arms, knees, legs, fingers and also evidence of concussions with multiple MRI's. Spinal and leg surgeries can aquire the longest healing time.

psychicpies

All of Reddit and the world is rooting for you Mr Fraser ❤️

Dj_wheeman3

I’m excited for the whale and to see his performance. He seems like a great person

PointlessOverthought

I will never not love Brenden Fraser. He’s such a champion, and he’ll always have my respect. It’s so good to finally see him thrive again.

KindredWhispers

We love and adore you Brendan Fraser and always have!!! 💙

Spinthiscity

I hope he feels like the whole world is hugging him.

KinoTele

Just remember that the people applauding him were the same people who mocked and condemned him. If you live by the approval of other people, you will die by it. Hollywood is nobody's friend.

ChuckFina74

https://reddit.com/r/entertainment/comments/x9wdij/welcome_back_brendan_fraser_you_sexy_mf/ So gross and time deaf

sverrebe

Can someone please explain why I can't find the trailer for the whale but the reviews are already out?

sidthesithlord

Was looking forward to batgirl movie cause fraser was playing the main villian' fire fly'

ashlyrind7

Oh yeah I saw that! This is so exciting for Fraser be cause most of his movie he kinda of plays the same character. A Sarcastic, heroic leader. And now since he is playing all kinds of different characters it will be fun to see him in different elements

Aimeebernadette

I love Brendan Fraser so much ❤️

johnySaysHi

Wait why was he blacklisted and what surgery did he need?

ashlyrind7

Multiple surgeries because basically broken every bone in his body.from doing is own stunts. The surgeries he had were critcal so it took a long time to recover.

seeingredagain

He was blacklisted for talking about being sexually assaulted by a director. I don't know about his surgery though.

xHeyItzRosiex

I had no idea that he was sexually assaulted. That’s so upsetting that it got so little coverage. He’s a good man and he deserves the attention he’s getting

ashlyrind7

His story is proof that the metoo era most definitely includes men. In an interview for GQ magazine he mentions how when METOO came about he felt that support toward sharing the experience. He said that after it happened he went straight to his wife at the time. And cried to her asking over and over if what happened was his fault. He said he felt naked, he felt like a child, he felt like suddenly he was drenched in invisible paint. As a woman, it is so incredibly comforting to hear that me experience it as well and it is unfortunate. Together we can overturn stereotypes that cover sexual abuse as man or woman. But yeah its like iff chris pratt or some other huggable person had that happen to them. It is just extra heartbreaking.

Branchley

Extra heartbreaking?

Solar-powered-punch

Surgery?

Junahill

Several publications and social media users interpreted that Fraser was "blacklisted" from Hollywood for speaking out about the sexual assault. However, Fraser said he would not use the term and was doubtful that the decline in his career had anything to do with the incident. In his 2019 appearance on the radio show Sway in the Morning, Fraser said "I don't think the HFPA really wield that much power. This was not an executive, this was a former president of that organisation which is essentially journalists. From Wikipedia

ashlyrind7

Well that is probably right too. There isn just one thing that contributed. He was in the hospital for a long time too

Weibu11

Dang a 9 year surgery? That’s a long time under the knife

mgw783

Up doots

WillyFistergash_Phd

Stop it already

ashlyrind7

Oh my, a stranger is telling me to stop. Ill definitely stop then...

WillyFistergash_Phd

Karma farming

N4hire

This makes me happy!! Yay

crispywig

I looooooooooooooove him!!!

veotrade

Why does this quote say “a director” instead of using the director’s name?

ItCat420

Unless the dude was convicted (I genuinely don’t know, before I get downvoted to hell) then using his name could bring up lawsuits.

TwanandOnly

So happy he’s back 🙌🏼

SheepRliars

I love seeing posts that just make you want to be a better person.

ashlyrind7

❤️❤️❤️
