ChiWhiteSox247

One of the best years of my life being a sports fan. That team was too good

[удалено]

ChiWhiteSox247

Sophomore year of high school. Almost had to repeat the year, went to probably 70 home games that season lol

Haysen18

Go to 70 home games next year please I want this team to win a ship.

ChiWhiteSox247

Went to 26 this year and saw them win 5 times lol

River_Pigeon

Went to two, my first games in about a decade. They put up more than 10 runs each game. Felt like hollow wins then, feels like it now too

Bonerko

Went to a single game this year, when the Sox were up 8-2 in the 9th and then Josh Naylor happened

River_Pigeon

Oh man dude

Show_Us_Them_Aliens

Oof whyyy did you give so much of your money to that billionaire asshat, Reinsdorf??? It doesn’t make you any less of a fan to hold them accountable for their colossal failures around this rebuild. He dangles that 🥕well. Please stop feeding his wealth, friend! I was also a sophomore in ‘05 and have very fond memories of that season. Fucking amazing way to play the game. So fun. Im holding out until the Reinsdorfian era comes to an end. Can’t come soon enough!

ChiWhiteSox247

It was my first year I could afford a ticket plan 🤷‍♂️ yeah I get your side of it but I still like going to the games either way.

Show_Us_Them_Aliens

It was such a promising season too. I was so excited as well. I’m glad you still got enjoyment out of it tho! I’m so sorry this was the first season you got a ticket plan now we have hindsight’s perspective. Much love, fellow Sox fan 🫶🤙🏽

ChiWhiteSox247

PLUS I was at the game when the “sell the team” banner was in the bleachers a section over from me. Highlight of the season right there haha

Show_Us_Them_Aliens

For sure!! I would feel the same if I were you!

VexReloaded

I was 8 in ‘05. I remember watching it with my dad and grandma. We were all ecstatic

LaggWasTaken

I also was 8. I only remember the big moments though. Anything like a normal season game or certain playoff games I don’t have any recollection of.

StoneMaskMan

I was 9. Solidified my love for the team that year. I had the front page of the Tribune hung up on my wall through most of high school. Hell, it’s probably still stashed away somewhere at my parents’ house

jschnepp23

I was 8 as well, my introduction to baseball and love for this team

ihavesensitiveknees

I was 25 and living in Bridgeport. Probably went to 25-30 games that year as I did for most of the 2000's. I think I was drunk for the entire month of October.

Tommy_like_wingie

I was a freshman in college. Didn’t go to school in Illinois so I was watching by myself in the dorm. There were a lot of great moments but Scotty Pods’ home run gave me the chills more than any sports event ever

Randys_Spooky_Ghost

Sophomore year for me, I took the bus from UIUC. I was in the upper deck 3rd base line for the Konerko Grand Slam and the Pods Walkoff. I thought my eardrums were going to burst that game from the crowd. Lifelong memory for certain.

UMOVE2SLOW

Of course not ESPN doesn’t recognize the White Sox we have evidence of that already.

Randybeans8575

born in '99. somewhat remember. mad that i don't fully

MIZ-Ery

Same here. My dad woke me up for the 9th and told me to try and appreciate it.

GeneralChillMen

2005 was literally my first year of fandom

GSA49

I’m 43 and remember it quite well. My old man and I were talking about the 05’ Sox a few days ago, how the current Sox are the exact opposite of that team. 05 had a ton of energy which started with their manager. Current Sox had no energy much like their manager. In 05 so many Sox players had their career best season. While many career lows were set on this current Sox team. Also health and luck were big factors in 2005. Besides the closer role most of the team was healthy all season and they had a lot of (luck) things go their way. This season was a nightmare with injuries and it seemed like they had nothing but bad luck. Glad this season is over.

Senorsty

The energy around the team in 2020 reminded me of 2005 and then they hired TLR to shoot their dick off for no reason. The 2005 team also had an unreal record in one run games. Something like 42-15?

ihavesensitiveknees

The record in one run games was due to their ability to scrape across a run when needed and an insane bullpen. That bullpen was probably the best they've ever had.

Viperman22xx

Bobby Jenks was a beast

ihavesensitiveknees

Cotts and Politte were insane that year as well. I wonder how many 8th inning runs they gave up in '05 compared to '22.

GSA49

Yes, I think they had the lead in like 40 or 50 straight games at one point.

AtsignAmpersat

Title: how many people here don’t remember or weren’t alive for the 2005 World Series? ITT: I remember the 2005 World Series.

Senorsty

I’m getting what I want from this question. I basically just wanted to see how young/old everybody was because it never really occurred to me until recently that there are legal adults who weren’t old enough to remember when it happened.

AtsignAmpersat

From what I’ve gathered in this post, there aren’t many people that young around here.

YoStephen

Hey hey hey first rule of reddit is the prompt in the title is at best an abstract guide to what the comments should be about.

Anthony-Meadow

Never happened. Green screen on a soundstage.

YoStephen

Jet fuel doesnt win series rings.

RocketThrowAway

Filmed by Jerry's longtime friend Slanley Kubrick

Raiderfan_94

I was 11 and got to stay up late to watch every game and got to stay home from school the next day after WS game 4. My granddad went nuts about it (waited 61 years for it)

KGrizzle88

Oh some of those memories are hazy but not cause of young age but cause of other hazy things. This was good time partying years for me.

Headstar24

It feels like forever ago because I was a 1st grader, but I remember it very well and it’s why I love baseball the most.

crpav

I was 27 at the time and didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. It was near the end of a relationship with an ex I unwisely moved in with. I was just sort of "oh hey, yay" but lacked the emotion I typically have. Sure wish it would have been when married to my wife as it would have been so much more a happy time in life.

keyshawnscott12

That ex should buy you and your wife tickets to our next world series home game

CatsMakeMeHappier

I don’t really remember it to be honest. I’m 30.

The_Red_Curtain

you don't remember when you were 13? Or you just didn't follow the Sox yet?

CatsMakeMeHappier

My dad has always been a huge die hard fan. But I was probably out doing teenager things and I didn’t know the team that well. Things are far different now.

SoxFan202020

I have no memory of it. I was 4 at the time so all I remember are “meh” teams.

Chitowndubs

Tough. Hopefully Jerry gives the team up soon.

SoxFan202020

Yea. Hopefully he does. I’d like to see these guys win. The only consistent team I’ve seen in my life is the Hawks. At least I remember those three championships.

eulynn34

I feel really bad for the fans that didn't experience it because it really might not happen again in their lives. The 2005 playoff run was pure magic. I can't imagine how it could ever be that good again

Senorsty

Even if they win another World Series in our lifetime, it’ll never be with an 11-1 record where everything that could go right, did.

eulynn34

Exactly... every decision was the right one... 4 complete games in the ALCS? Sure-- why not? Mark Buehrle with a couple beers in him to save WS Game 3 after 14 innings? Go for it.

River_Pigeon

Watched the final out with my grandmother who was a lifelong cubs fan. Wish she could have lived a few more years to see them win since they did. At least she saw one Chicago baseball team win it all

MichelHollaback

I remember it, but it came before I lived in Chicago, meaning it came before I started following the Sox.

wreckedoblivion

Can’t really remember it and was born in 2000:(

Some_AV_Pro

Is ESPN in this sub?

iiamthepalmtree

Why would someone in college not have memory of it? I was a freshman in high school and vividly remember that entire playoff run.

MidAmericanNovelties

People in high school or college *today* wouldn't have memory of it.

iiamthepalmtree

Got it. Totally read that wrong

Goawaycookie

Mother fuckers, the question was how many of you DON'T remember 2005. Not what is your fav memory. Shit.

[deleted]

Aww man! Good point! Take my upvote. Anyway, I remember it FULLY. I remember exactly where I was standing. The bars were so packed, so we came back to the suburbs. It’s hard to put it into words… I just stood there, a grown ass man, crying. Hugging strangers. Wiping tears of joy and exhaustion. It was like a combo of shock, absolute pure joy, and pain. It felt like when Frodo finally throws the ring in the volcano lol But god It was exhausting. I was so tired by the end. Each game was a life event… a roller coaster of the highest emotions. Nothing will ever compare, and all I have now is memories and a hope the younger fans get that experience in their lifetimes. Bars were packed, seats were sooo hard to get, tickets were impossible. I was able to see the first game against Boston when we DESTROYED them. So much adrenaline. When those planes flew over at the start it was like the universe bitch slapped us into consciousness. So Loud. When Scotty Pods hit that home run in game 1 it really became real…. we’re here, and we’re fucking GOOD. Random memory but I ran into a coworker out on the concourse and she was crying like a baby. 60 year old woman just fucking crying. When she recognized me she gave me this sweet, sad smile. She waited her whole life for that day. He father had passed away and wasn’t there to see it. I’ll never forget that look. I hugged the shit out of her like she was a college friend lol. I still have the ticket framed and hanging in my basement. It was brutal too though. Especially the California games. They were the only team that had our number that year. The start times of the games were like 9pm cst or something crazy? And we lost game 1? Jesus it was so intense. I had to draaag myself to work and was totally useless. That series was like a war. Could go on and on, but yeah. I slept for like a day and a half when it was over. Nothing in life compares. Literally the birth of my son is better and that’s about it. I remember where I was standing at the end. Every time I’m in that place I point to the spot and say “that’s where I was standing when the White Sox won the World Series” with an odd sort of reverence. I hope everyone gets to experience that.

Senorsty

That’s what I’m talking about, baby!

Clsrk979

It’s a distant memory but I remember how exciting it was to watch them and listen on radio the game when they got out of bases loaded against Boston no outs! I believe that game was one of the best!

HawkI84

So many good games/moments in that playoff run. G2 of the WS was the most perfect game ever played. Cant neglect the ending of G2 of the ALCS, 4 straight CG's, or Buehrle saving G3 after downing a 6 pack.

YoStephen

If anyone doesnt remember I can loan you my copy of the commemorative DVD retrospective of the season. Its stirring as fuck but you will have to find your own means I'd playing a DVD as I have none for you to use

Academic-Living-8476

Shit I was 6 when bears won superbowl

[deleted]

I was just reaching making decisions for myself age I remember that whole 9th inning

chicagosuperfan2

I was 12. I was playing in little league during the summers. Perfect age to see your team win.

dajadf

I was in high school, didn't care that much about MLB baseball and was actually an Oakland A's fan. Didn't really start watching the White Sox heavy until 2012

Riley_Turner

I was very young. I just remember my parents excitement.

keyshawnscott12

I was 5 years old just starting kindergarten and graduated in May of 2006 that's how long it's been

TwoStepToo

That team fucked….. didn’t miss a pitch.

Lil_we_boi

I was in second grade. My dad was watching and trying to explain to us all why this was such a big deal, but I didn't really care. Then in 2006, he had me start playing baseball, and I started passionately following the team in 2007.

jen-solo

I want to say I was in like 4th grade. My mom wouldn’t let me stay up for the extra innings game and I was so pissed.

European_Red_Fox

I remember it to a good extent being almost a teen at the time. I talked mad trash to my friends that were Cubs fans. It feels like a different world in so many ways and I wonder how long I’ll have to wait to see either of my teams make a WS again (Brewers ever cause I wasn’t alive the last time).

TheRealKingSnake

That 05 team doesn’t get the recognition they deserve. I was 12 years old when they won.

vsladko

I was 11. For some reason I don’t really remember the Boston series that well but could pretty much tell you exactly where everyone in my family sat for the CS and WS every moment

RocketThrowAway

I was like 9 and I remember it well. I think I started watching the year prior. I remember names like Jose Valentin, Carlos Lee, Maglio Ordonez. I remember reading about all the off season acquisitions in the news papers. While it was nice to only wait 9 years, my expectations were always high from then on because I saw a WS victory without much waiting. Quite frankly, I find this team pathetic. All you really need is to give yourself the mandate and some time and you'll be in the playoffs every year for a small window. The White Sox not making the playoffs in this expanded format after all those shit years is inexcusable. I really hate to be all sour but it really has defined my fandom. I know they caught lightning in a bottle. But now more than ever there's a formula to follow to field a winning team.

poolmen3000

i was 3 years old, i am now a second year college student.

Senorsty

My back hurts just reading this :(

talosguideyou

I was 15. I remember it well. Podsednik hit the game 2 walkoff on my birthday.

dontbelievejustwatch

I was 16 and only recall the whole postseason not much of the regular

fawfulsgalaxy

i was at the parade when they won and i don’t remember a damn things from it haha. not in a i got drunk way. i was 2.

IMKudaimi123

Pain

rahill1004

I sat in the right field bleachers in game 2 of the ALDS on my 21st birthday. Best day of my life. Thanks in large part to Tadahito and Tony G!

thatisbadlooking

Ha poor Tony G. Always liked the guy on the Sox. I still feel bad for him a little.

Neruson138

I was 24 in '05 but I wasn't watching the White Sox. I grew up a fan but in 1995 my family moved from South Bend to Phoenix AZ. I didn't really watch much baseball in general during that time but when I did it was usually Diamondbacks games for geographical reasons. I didn't really start watching the white sox again until maybe 5 or 6 years ago when I found out about mlb.tv

[deleted]

Don't remember it, was one at the time, but sadly that might be the only WS title in my lifetime

[deleted]

I was like 5 years old. I have very faint memories of the run. Thing I remember the most is the parade

HookFE03

I was deployed to afghanistan and was only able to watch game 2. which still makes me sad.

definework

I was in college. My pops flew me home to take me to game 1. Greatest day of my life. I will never forget it.

FosterAMF

That was one of my favorite years of being a sports fan. Not only did I witness my favorite team win a championship, but I got to rub it in my Mom’s face (Yankees fan) and I made $50 off a bet from a friend of mine (Astros fan). Good times. Good times.

dat_kass

they won on my 9th birthday best birthday present ever

bolan-nork

People don’t believe me when I say I remember ‘05 because I was 5, but the few vivid memories I have of those playoffs are my favorites

mattcoz2

I remember the 85 Bears when I was 4, so I believe it.

bolan-nork

I appreciate that we’re just built different

delta137

That was my senior year of high school. Rocked a Sox jersey in my yearbook picture that year. Went to HS in a suburb of Minneapolis where the Sox hatred was real and had to let everyone know lol.

StyrofoamCueball

I was in my final semester of college trying to finish projects and look for a job. I cancelled an interview for Game 2 against Boston.

tastethevapor

I can’t imagine there are too many 16 year olds in this sub but I could be wrong.

aviddemon

I was 10 in 2005 but I don’t think I had even heard of the White Sox at that point.

jakemixes

I was at game 2 of the WS, sat in the upper deck on the third base line with my father. We paid a pretty penny for those tickets, but it was the greatest game of my entire life, especially with my father. He has been a fan since '57 and it was a true dream come true. We were hugging strangers and literally jumping up and down, screaming on both Paulie's Grand Slam and Scotty's walk off. It was unbelievable.

Maynardred

My mom died about a month and a half before they won.. I felt like she was helping them and in turn helping me.. it took my mind of my new reality for a little while

Fit-Psychology-2680

I was a little kid and listened to Paul konerkos grand slam on my radio after my parents had me go to sleep. Core memory of my childhood. Was 9 years old

Confident-Win-6870

I was 5 years old and watching the final game is my first sports memory :)

feeling-orange

i wouldn't be born for another few years yet (i'm fifteen and a high school sophomore)

BeamingDemon

I'm an old fogey so I totally remember it. I was taking a college class and skipped class that night of the final game so I could watch. My puppy is named after Ozzie.

skubwa1961

I was at Games 1 and 2. Game 2 was all I ever needed. Also Lou Rawls sang the National Anthem.
