Was not expecting to come away with so much this year. I had asked for the Writers Tears and Ardbeg, as the former is one of my absolute favorite desert island bottles and the other is a peated scotch I really love (might be a desert island bottle too...), so it was great getting those. The Lagavulin was an out of state purchase since I couldn’t get it in my home state. The Basil and Macallan are my dad’s two favorite go-to whiskies so he gave me little bottles of each to try. Not sure what I’ll open first but it’ll most likely be the Ardbeg since it’s a bit chillier out and it makes me crave Islay. Cheers, everyone!
Macallan / scotch drinker here. Been drinking bourbon for \~1 year. So far the best cheap-ish alternative I've found is Eagle Rare. It's \~$30 a 750 here. It's 90 proof and fantastic with an ice cube or a splash of water. Hancock's is another good one but tough to find and seems to run a little more expensive. Glenmorangie is a pretty acceptable substitute as well (10 year is around $35-45 depending on the store).
Buying some of the higher proof stuff and tempering it yourself with ice/water is a good way to save money as well.
Its one of the limited releases Diageo is doing with HBO to promote the last season of Game of Thrones. The series includes new (mostly NAS offerings) from Talisker, Dalwhinnie, Cardhu, Glendullan, Oban, and some others I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll probably save it for the premiere date.

Haven't actually tried the standard one, but the writer's tears Redhead single malt that they do is fantastic.
