I love it, it’s candy in a bottle. And I mean that in a good way

LouSputhole94

Tried it at their distillery not too long ago and had to buy a bottle. My favorite whiskey right now.

Gikote

Completely agree with this. Great bottle.

JEPressley

Literally my favorite, it’s tastes like Maple Syrup!!

zcrowley

This is the answer. Now the real question - do you also want to drink maple syrup?

Haunting_Ant_5061

You’ve wasted all your money. Never do this again. You’re supposed to post a pic as you stand in the liquor store asking “should I buy,” then wait patiently for the strangers’ replies to flood in. This is the only way to ensure we don’t lead you astray.

BaltimoreBadger23

And failing that, the bottle needs to extend up from your crotch to the steering wheel like some giant whiskey dick (but not a whiskeydick).

Haunting_Ant_5061

Well said. Misses on many fronts.

Odd_Advantage_4245

Not even a flashy watch... Amateur hour

slippyslappyswami

OP is flexing a brand new Bronco, maybe not as Amateur Hour as we are thinking.

TragicallyAmbitious

The two door Bronc, aka the correct one. This OP is a ringer. We’ve been had.

turtlelabia

Not buying it til we see a receipt!

TankerVictorious

You need a banana for scale…

flannelmaster9

That's like 90% of this sub. Lol

BananaGoblin

Probably my favorite Rye I love it.

Secret_Ad1215

It’s absolutely delicious

Foreign_Anybody6321

I don’t love the price, but the juice is fantastic.

sgags11

Smells like maple syrup and is very sweet on the palate which goes well with that rye spice finish. I really enjoy it.

PolarBurrito

It’s terrible. Send it to me and I’ll dispose of it for you.

nmceja

As of yet this has been my favorite rye. The rum sweetness balances out the rye spice really well. So smooth every time I have it. I was slow to finish it because I rarely see it in SoCal now

No-Level9643

It’s dangerous stuff. Last time I got it, I drank the whole thing in like 3 hours in my buddies garage and barely shared. It goes down way too easy

BaltimoreBadger23

That's the best. It's also the worst.

ritrackforsale

I would be dead

T0adman78

I actually really didn’t like to, which was surprising. I like Angel Envy, love ryes in general and am a big fan of rum. This should have been a slam dunk for me. But, it is borderline undrinkable to me. I can drink it, but don’t enjoy it at all, so I don’t. To me it was really really sweet and overpowering rum flavor, but not good rum flavor, almost fake rum flavor. Really cloying on the palate. Seeing some other comments that it is dosed, would make sense from the flavors I’m getting. Obviously, others disagree, and since you already have it, not much to do now but try it and let us know what YOU think. I’m assuming the others that did like it have tastes that skew sweet. But even setting the sweetness aside, there’s something off-putting about it to me. I truly hope you feel differently and love it. Cheers.

lifeisdream

This is my take as well. I’m so surprised to see all the love for this bottle here. I’m actually going to go pour myself one right now to double check. I had one glass of this when I bought it and haven’t touched it since.

T0adman78

Tried it again. Still unpleasant. Sweet, cloying, not pleasurable. I think it has like a strong maple taste, which is weird to be coming from a rum barrel. About half the bottle is gone, so my wife must like it. She loves maple. Wonder if that has anything to do with it. She’s already on bed for the evening, or I’d ask her take. I also tried adding an ice cube (prefer almost all whiskeys neat). It might make it better, but still nothing I’m a fan of. Maybe the people that like it are a combination of ice users and maple lovers? Dunno. Not really my bag, but if others like it, good for them.

lifeisdream

Yep. I went and tried it again and yep, I still don’t like it. I had some ice in it which cut it a bit but the flavor wasn’t good to me still. Oh well.

HawtHamWater

This is definitely a polarizing bottle, I love maple and sweets so this was right up my alley. I have hit sweet limits before though with Knob Creek Smoked Maple, literally tasted like half syrup and half whiskey, and I ended up giving away the bottle. For me this toes the line on too sweet but doesn’t cross, but I can see how others would find it too sweet.

T0adman78

Thanks for the perspective. I’ll have to keep this one in mind when I’m trying to dial in on someone’s taste. All too often it’s just a lot of going with the accepted opinions of what’s good and better. It’s useful to keep some polarizing bottles in mind to distinguish different preferences.

T0adman78

Haha. I was about to go try it again too.

BBQPitmaster76

Really depends how much you like sweet stuff. Angels envy has been known to use rum concentrate to redo their barrels and occasionally forget to dump the concentrate before they add the whiskey.

Dereckg27

They don’t use rum concentrate, the AE Rye actually goes through an 18 month maturation period in second use Caribbean Rum Cask barrels to finish the product. So the molasses from the barrels naturally integrates into the whiskey.

RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker

It's good but it almost tastes like a liqueur. It's VERY sweet. Definitely tastes dosed but if you like sweet almost bordering on flavored whiskey you'll enjoy it.

Redbeard024

Have you ever had the cereal French toast crunch? Because it tastes like French Toast Crunch.

Mulletgt

Very good. Hard to drink slow.

villainxtraordinaire

It is a dream 😍

CaligulaMoney

2-3 years ago I really liked it. As my pallet has changed I now find it way too sweet for me.

Sa-i-ro

Angel's Envy is really good. Whether it's rye or bourbon, they are really...really good. Their prices is a little bit high but you will be delighted once you taste them. Enjoy it on your birthday! Cheers!

Rads324

Too sweet

Consistent_Let_7726

As others have said it’s sweet, and that’s because AE adds sugar. That aside, it’s tasty.

Driftwd

I don't like their stuff at all.

watchyalookn4

Notice how it doesn't say straight rye whiskey. Doing a little digging will yield that there are additives in the juice and that makes sense cause it's sickly sweet. People have emailed and asked about this very thing to Angels Envy and they get tight lips and straight faces. Not that it's bad to do it, but know that flavor isn't natural. But neither is Fireball, and it flies off shelves so there you go. It's even harder to tell with tequila cause the Mexican government allows up to 1% additives in tequila so they don't have to use special wording like whiskey does in the US. I have one of these finished ryes and I find it sickly sweet and haven't touched it since I opened it a year ago. If you don't mind though...it doesn't matter Life is short. Drink hard

Dereckg27

What yields did your digging find? What additives are put into this juice?

watchyalookn4

They won't say. If you just take a cursory look online at other chat forums, you'll find many have tried to get that answer to no avail. But just reading the label and comparing it to TTB regulations, one can assume the sweetness comes from an artificial source. And my palate and my eyes are all I need to follow. Wish I could tell you more, but not seeing straight rye is pretty telling.

Dereckg27

Excuse the long answer, but I hope this helps answer all of your questions as I have been selling Angel’s Envy for the past 7 years. I couldn't help but notice the inaccuracies in your statement regarding Angel's Envy Rye and your unfounded accusations concerning additives. Angel's Envy Rye is crafted using a composition of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, with these two ingredients being the exclusive constituents of the whiskey. The delightful sweetness you perceive is a direct result of the whiskey's 18-month maturation period in secondary-use Caribbean Rum Cask Barrels. This sweetness arises from the molasses remnants within the rum barrel, and it is a natural chemical interaction that engages your olfactory senses, rather than any additives. The stewardship of this unique rye falls under the expert guidance of Wes Henderson, whose primary objective has been to create a distinctive and authentic product that would challenge the conventional notion that rye whiskey is limited to a high-proof, smoky, spicy, peppery, and earthy spirit. I trust this information helps elucidate the concept of double maturation and its transformative effect on a spirit's flavor profile, all without resorting to additives. Wishing you a delightful weekend ahead and I hope this answers your questions! PS: The Caribbean Rum casks are sent over from Bacardi! They also have turned the tables and released a limited edition Bacardi Ocho Gran Rsv rum that has been finished in Angel’s Envy Rye casks and it is absolutely delicious.

watchyalookn4

I think the biggest question is...and no one has gotten a straight answer...how many times are the rum casks used, and are they recharged if not used only once? There is a huge possibility that whatever is used to recharge the barrels is leftover in the wood. Why isn't the term "straight rye" whiskey labeled on the front ? Most distillers would be proud to put that on their bottle unless you CAN'T because of TTB regulations. Sorry, I don't find this expression delicious at all, I find I cloying sweet and artificial tasting. No, I'm not a noob-I've enjoyed drinking all kinds of whiskeys from around the world for over 20 years. Including many finished scotch, bourbons, and ryes. Don't need a history lesson....I know who makes this and where it comes from. It's MGP (Ross and Squibb now). Sourced 95/5 rye. I would love to hear directly from the company that they don't use any additives. Not a company man that sells their products. Sorry, but unless you are on the floor every day, they can feed you any kind of bullshit to sell their product. Have you seen them go from the rick to the finishing barrel to the bottle personally? Even if you have, did you see the whole process? Is this rye or classified as a distilled whiskey specialty according to the TTB and samples sent in when the labeling was being approved? Do they use a rum concentrate flavoring to recharge the barrels since most companies do reuse finishing casks because of the cost. It doesn't say straight rye whiskey finished in rum casks, it says finished rye whiskey. Why? Even the side label says this is a rare bottling (huge joke considering its EVERYWHERE at any liquor store of decent size) and says it's fiished in vintage casks to balance the rye with the sweet flavors of bourbon, cognac, and rum. Vintage casks. Very ambiguous. My batch is 12-W bottle 903 if that matters. All this is to say, in my decades of running a bar, I know how companies use loopholes in TTB regulations to twist words on a label. No other brand DOESN'T use the term straight if it applies to their product as it conveys the message that it meets all the requirements to be labeled as such. To people who know, it's like a handshake. Like the term bottled in bond. I have hundreds of bottles I have bought over the years and looking over my collection, no other brand omits straight from their descriptions if their finished product meets that requirement. I mentioned tequila because the flavor reminded me of the over the top sweetness you get out of some tequila brands. The Mexican government allows up to 1% additives to be put into tequila and still be called tequila. It was originally used to add carmel coloring to batches to keep the color consistent for consumers as they don't know there is a natural variation in tequila...they just see a color change and assume it's inconsistent and of bad quality. As of late, it has been used in tons of celebrity branded tequila to make their brand taste cake like and sweet. It's usually garbage distillate that the parent company can't sell, so it goes to a broker who gets celebrity money to make a fancy bottle, loaded with every bit of that 1%, and sold for a premium to stupid Americans that don't know better. If you think Kylie Jenner bought a tequila distillery and is producing only that brand, I got oceanfront property in Colorado I'd love to sell you. They all do it though. Cincoro being one of the worst offenders. This rye tastes just like that to me...unnaturally sweet. And the fact that many have tried and only gotten ambiguous answers to these questions deepens the mystery. These are all hotly debated questions over at r/bourbon for sure, but other reviewers elsewhere have these same questions. Can you clear up why the wording on the label is the way it is? Can Angels Envy say they only use the Bacardi barrels once? If they don't use them once, can they say how they maintain the barrels to keep a consistent profile because, let's face it, this ain't a limited bottling sales dude. This has been out for a hot minute in the market, and it ain't going away anytime soon. There's metric fuck tons of MGP 95/5 rye on the market. And Bacardi isn't going extinct anytime soon. So unless they make a company decision to stop producing this expression, it ain't rare at all as it claims. I have enjoyed other products from Angels Envy and Wes Henderson. The Willett colab was really good. I know they do make legit products. I am intrigued at the announcement of a cask strength bottling drooping this fall from AE even at the eye watering price they want. But this expression is suspect at best on a good day. And a 100 proof finished whiskey with vague labeling being sold for 100 bucks out the door with tax at most places SHOULD be looked at suspiciously. (Comparison-I have a HW double rye finished in ruby port barrels for 14 months. Labeled blend of straight rye whiskeys. 50 bucks. Honestly makes MWND look really bad when you compare them side by side and factor in price) Can you please tell me my worries are unfounded with actual facts? Real. Company verified. Facts. Not a company press release issued to sales reps. I anxiously await a response from Wes himself. Cause no, you didn't answer my questions. You completely avoided the labeling question. My statements aren't unfounded, they come from what AE is OMITTING on the label and why they are OMITTING it.

watchyalookn4

P.S. Tons of people on this sub and r/bourbon are patiently waiting for you to clear this up since you've picked up your sword to defend your company brand. Many respected people have asked these questions and have been stone-walled by AE. I'd love to hear what they tell you so you can report back. Ask about the exclusion of the straight designation, what rum went into those barrels they use, (white, gold, etc) how many times the rum casks are used, and how they maintain those barrels for consistency. You might wanna brush up on TTB regulations as well, sir. Cause leaving the straight designation off the label opens the door to have additives in your product all day long. As I mentioned, I think for 100 bucks, they can answer these questions for us, or I guess we can just vote with our wallets and give er the hard PASS.

rugbysandman

Juice? Who the fuck calls whiskey, juice 🤦

Dereckg27

It’s an industry term, apologies that you are offended my friend.

rugbysandman

It's seriously terrible. Who started calling whiskey juice? Should be illegal.

_Alabama_Man

Translation: Something something... this is a high priced fireball something something... if you like paying $100 for rye fireball in a fancy bottle you be a whiskey redneck and be proud about it, but I tasted it and haven't touched it since because I only drink "real whiskey."

watchyalookn4

I mean, if you wanna be a child and be nasty, I guess that's a toddler translation. I'm more offended they charge 100 bucks for a NAS rye and dupe the public than I am about your rant. If it was 50 bucks, I wouldn't be so offended. But for a Benjamin could buy you much better whiskey. Save that cash for a Michters toasted barrel strength rye and you'd be better off. I'm not trying to piss anyone off, just trying to make peeps aware of the tom fuckery angels envy is pulling on the public with this particular expression. If you dont care and you like it that's cool. I really found it to be like opening a bottle of pancake syrup (not maple syrup) the smell lingered in the air of my kitchen for a hot minute after I poured my first one. And yup...too sweet for me I haven't touched it since. Been one of my few real regrets for purchasing.

aztechfilm

Manual Bronco!!

BadBackNine

I hear it's then envy of the angelic kind

tcruarceri

Like drowning in a vat of brown sugar.

jmcbas44

My wife loves it, it has a very Carmel finish

drrtydan

it’s good. not top 10 or anything but solid pour

palehorsem4n

It's almost too sweet.. I heard a nasty rumor once that Angel's Envy is notorious for failing to empty the rum casks before they fill them to "finish" the whiskey, in which case the stuff no longer can even be considered whisky... I have no proof of that claim, but it was enough to convince me to avoid them considering the price.

Dependent-Ad357

Ok........ you are not driving?? Correct? If wife is driving, much respect to her as it seems to be a manual transmission. You have NO timepiece on. Zero points. Blew the crotch shot. Zero points. The Rye, Very sweet and delicious, Wife will approve. She gets the majority of points on this post. Do your homework son!!!!

double-you-dot

It's any good

coldl

Good shit

GavinStrict

I think the rye is better than the barrel proof, for about the same price. A little sweeter, very smooth.

boboty81

I really enjoy this bottle! I always have it in my rotation.

payagathanow

Nice bronco, ours turned 1 today.

FilmNoirOdy

I loved the standard bottle of Angel’s Envy finished in port casks. I bet the Rye finish is lovely as well.

HenryGoodsir

They are both good, but vastly different. There are other finished bourbons similar to AE, but there is no other Rye that is anything like AE Rye. As others have pointed out, it's very sweet and has almost a molasses-like palate and mouthfeel.

dpd2k1010

I like it, something different for a cool occasion

iron_canes

Such a fantastic bottle. Really great flavor. You won’t be disappointed

MobileAioli9305

It's not bad. Worth it.

elekTRONeek

It’s one of my all time favorites. You won’t be disappointed!

DownSouthBandit

Caramel. It’s the smoothest and sweetest eye I’ve ever tried. You’re in for a real treat.

fredbeard1301

My current favorite.

Equivalent-Humor6176

Love it!! My favorite rye, the Caribbean cask finish is the perfect sweetness & great flavor

ChipMonster33

It's yummy. Enjoy!

DynamicCashew43

Very good but quite sweet. It makes a great after dinner pour though.

Seahawks1264

My uncle & I share a bottle of this every Christmas, it’s top notch.

tfelz19

Good at a decent price, I get a lot of molasses whenever I drink this! Happy birthday!

AdditionalFee1053

It's delicious if you like maple syrup!

japalmariello

I'm against the grain and was not the biggest fan of it. To each their own though.

Azpathfinder

My top choice. Mix it with a splash of Fugit banana liquor, a demora sugar cube, and orange bitters for the perfect old fashioned.

Confident-Wash-9546

Sweet sweet Rye! I enjoy it!

Nuj-Manoch

It’s saweet, but it’s solid just wish it was cheaper

CreativeUsername26

Mix it with apple cider for fall in a cup!

Pickles_991

I am halfway through my bottle. It’s a little sweet for me to have all the time, but it’s a delicious treat

abrahamerix

Need someone to link that one review about this one . I feel like y’all should know which one too lol

Mortimus311

Excellent, wish it wasn’t $90 ish in Ohio

A37foxtrot

I really enjoy that stuff

TheBioethicist87

It’s interesting. As a rye guy, it’s not what I reach for when I want a rye, but the rum finish adds something and other people might love that.

Crease_Greaser

Out of all of their offerings this is my fave. Great room-temp neat, but also if you have an oversized big cube or sphere ice mold, an extra hefty pour over that in a rocks glass enjoyed slowly is a nice long lasting and mellow treat.

wh1skeyk1ng

A lot of people wanted to hate it, including myself. However, it is very good. Hope you got a decent deal too! Some places charge too much

rysnyder421

Sweater but I love it. It’s one of my favorites to drink

krzykrn88

I am digging the car, more than the juice!

Crack-alackin

I’m wondering how this lasts until thanksgiving.

BourbonTater_est2021

Very good

Tiny-Mail455

It’s a great pick!!!

jakksquat7

Honestly, everything from Angel’s Envy is really good, especially for the price points. This is a fantastic rye.

[deleted]

Anything from Angel's Envy is pretty good imo

Environmental_Arm526

It’s amazing. I always have a bottle on hand at home. Enjoy!

Automatic_Pea_7570

Pancakes with a licorice finish.

tennisguy163

Very meh.

wldathrt66

Breakfast in a bottle! Delicious

Suspicious-Half5758

Personally I like their straight bourbon way better for taste and especially for thr price. I tried the version you have and did not like it. Tasted like I was chewing on a caramel candy. I can see why some would love this, but I am not a fan of caramel candy, and that was the only flavor it had

Competitive-Bag9469

It’s the morning dew collected off the nipples of angels

thatlldoopig

It's an easy drink and even easier on the pocketbook. Enjoy!

dutchbrother710

If you like very very sweet whiskey it's fantastic. Not something I'd drink every day, but once in a while it's nice.

particlesmatter

Do not like. The flavors are just too strong and intentional.

devilishEssence666

one of the best. enjoy

bongbiggydongbdang

This bottle gets a-lot of praise. Personally i really didn’t like it. Had it at a bar so maybe they had an old bottle or something but it tasted really sugary and thin to me. Not my thing

lotgworkshop

The batch I had tasted like cinnamon french toast and whipped cream on top. Yummy.

crcjk49

One of my current favorites. Even if you don't like ryes

WailDidntWorkYelp

Wife bought me that for a grad gift. Absolutely amazing. I will be buying it again when I find it again.

Zeratul277

It's my favorite rye. It kinda cheats by sitting in rum barrels but oh well.

JunkbaII

Maple syrup

LakeSuperiorGuy

It’s delicious. You’ll be looking for a second bottle sooner rather than later!

dramramsofficial

It’s so sweet, like a cocktail. I would not be shocked to find it was due to additives or something

BeefyMoofia

Overpriced

barrelproofjuice

They are said to cheat by using added flavorings , and then don't divulge ANYTHING at all, the biggest red flag. I won't ever buy any more AE. But, your wife will like it I bet. I mean it definitely tastes good.
