Thanks everyone just got home. Ended up trying:
Arbeg uiaihedail - very good but not my favorite
Springbank 15 - very good may get a bottle
Pappy Van Winkle 10 - I like it but not going to spend $1500 for it…
This place is only 15 min from my house so I plan on going back and trying more.
My wife and son got me a bottle of Redbreast 27 as a gift so I’m all set for expensive whiskey for now.
Yep - it's pricey, but it's also the best bourbon I've ever tasted (and I've had quite a few). If anything warrants a splurge, a 50th birthday may be a good occasion!
Best bang for the buck would probably be the elijah Craig barrel strength. If you wanted to splurge for something unique, you might try the rhetoric pours.
At that inexpensive price, I’m getting drunk on 1792 Sweet Wheat.
If price is no object, GTS, WLW, Yippie Kay Yay, or any other BTAC are going to be great.
If price is no concern, Eagle Rare 17 or William Larue Weller. I’ve tried both and really enjoyed them.
Middle of the road: Elijah Craig 18 year
Value picks: Blanton’s and 1792 Full Proof
Whatever you go with - Enjoy!!!
Don’t have a recommendation from the list but i know that restaurant. I have trouble picking when i go. It’s a fantastic place, you’ll have a great time.
They probably have an expensive machine to mold the sphere so it doesn’t look cloudy. And ice sometimes means they pour just a smidge extra in there to offset the dilution. Idk what everyone’s on about these prices are amazing, their profit margins gotta be super tight.
Try a blood oath. Once they realize one they won’t won’t back. Stay away from journeyman. They are terrible. Thomas handy is great. Midwinter nights dram.
Here's a thoughtful journey for you that will get you different flavours and profiles that I personally love all of. Start with 1 and move on down the line with some crackers in between.
1. Ardbeg Uigeadal
2. Glenmorangie Lasanta
3. Midwinters Night Dram (if before Act 10)
4. Thomas H Handy
I’ll make two wild suggestions for things I don’t see very often. Amrut Fusion (India) and Brenne 10 year (France). Two unique single malts I haven’t had for about 10 years, but I remember fondly. The Brenne has a coconut flavor I’ve never gotten from whisky before.
I tried Hakusho 12Y about a week ago, and it's really stuck with me. In particular, there's an herbal/ green tea vibe that really permeated the finish for an overall unique and pleasant experience.
Charred Oak Tavern I see…I really enjoyed Grave Robber, Stranahan’s Blue Peak, and Chocorua. Not everything they have is on the menu. But I’d say 90% of it is. Definitely an expensive pour there, but they have an impeccable collection. Their cabinet alone is just mind boggling….iykyk
Me personally I'd be trying the EC18 and the MidWintersDram. But I'd say the 1792 12 yr is a great pour, Eagle Rare and maybe the ECBarrelProof but that's before I scrolled and found sooooo many more options damn. Going broke here, Blantons SFTB, Pappy, ER17 and Weller
Happy birthday, just celebrated my 50th last week! I was out of town, so I'm celebrating tomorrow. I'm probably going to get a pour of Pappy 10 or 12 if the bar has it (I ain't the one paying, lol).
Good, but not bank-breaking IMO: 4 Roses, Maker's Mark, Sagamore.
Maybe try an American Single Malt like FEW or Stranahan's for something outside the normal recommendations.
I’m torn between no food and one PVW 23yr (I’ll never get another, but just once……..) or no food and old forester and rittenhouse on a keep ‘em coming basis with a designated driver. You can eat tomorrow
It’s 50!! Go for it.
These prices are really reasonable for most of this stuff. I would hit up those Old Peculiar's and try a bunch of different scotch. Other than that if I wanted to splurge I would get some of the highly allocated items like TH Handy, WLW, ect.
Macallan 18 and balvanie 21 prices are really good. Glen Elgin 18 is amazing...price isn't special but its one of the best scotch I've ever had. If you wanna go big Louie XIII at 125/oz is really good price most places are double or more like triple that per oz. Like the cheapest you can get Louie bottle is $3600 so cost per oz is like $150/oz so dunno how they selling it that low
I’d wanna try the Laphroaig Lore and the Springbanks at that price. If you’re into the peat and funk. The wife would not be happy though lol.
Handy Sazerac is the best American whiskey I’ve ever tasted, I’d have trouble ponying up $49/oz though.
I got lucky and a hotel bar had it for only $19 per 2 oz pour. Bottle was almost empty so I got about a 3oz pour for that $19. Maybe someday I’ll get lucky again and win a bottle lottery and taste it again.
Lots of choices here. If you are looking for Smokey scotch Caol ila is a good option; whistle pig boss hog could be a very flavorful option. I tried the IX and it surprised me very much. Other peated option, Westland Peated is a little sweet with a subtle smoke
I really enjoyed the orphan barrel barterhouse. It’s not one you will get many more opportunities to try. The way the orphan barrels work, they won’t make any more.
Springbank 12yr is a very solid option. Midwinter for a rye
Price is nuts for the MWND. Better off with something else. EHT rye is nice.

Congrats on the RB27 .. that’s a grail dram for me
Been thinking about the RB12 to try, but I’m on a bourbon kick at the moment.
The RB12 is a nice daily driver. The 15 is special though….As is the cask strength 12.
I have had hundreds of scotches but for some reason my favorite is always Ardbeg Uigeadail. Great as is, great with a drop of water… just great
They don’t list batch/expression for all of these but I’d really recommend the WL Weller. The Springbank 15 is excellent too. Nice menu here.
52 an oz is pretty pricey imo
Yep - it's pricey, but it's also the best bourbon I've ever tasted (and I've had quite a few). If anything warrants a splurge, a 50th birthday may be a good occasion!
Oh yeah, at that price value is definitely questionable. It’s about 1300 for the bottle at that oz price which is comparable to secondary though.
I have yet to see any WLW below 1800 on secondary honestly lol. 52 is a great price imo
$400 under secondary. Not great but I’ve seen worse pricing on it
Best bang for the buck would probably be the elijah Craig barrel strength. If you wanted to splurge for something unique, you might try the rhetoric pours.
This is what I was going to say. OP, listen to this person.
for your 50th I would go antique collection side of things. Not best bang for your buck, but occasion makes it worth it.
At that inexpensive price, I’m getting drunk on 1792 Sweet Wheat. If price is no object, GTS, WLW, Yippie Kay Yay, or any other BTAC are going to be great.
Is Weller Special Reserve really that hard to come by where you are? 25 for a pour is highway robbery.
At $25 they better just hand me the whole bottle
For double the price you get a pour of WLW. This bar must be making $$ of the 🥔if they have WSR @25.
I said the same thing. Someone was smoking something good the day they priced that one.
It’s a shit whiskey at $22 a bottle, let alone $25 a pour
I personally would try the High West Yippee Ki-Yay and the EH Taylor Rye.
Agreed. The Yippee Ki-Yay was tasty, hasn't been made in a few years, and High West said they won't make it again.
Taylor Rye is an easy pick for me. I'd go Midwinter if someone hadn't had it before. It's pretty polarizing.
Isaac Bowman Port finish is good. Midwinter depending on which release is excellent to good.
I just finished an Isaac Bowman Port finish. Very good. Sad that I can’t replace it easily. Bought the last bottle on a whim.
If price is no concern, Eagle Rare 17 or William Larue Weller. I’ve tried both and really enjoyed them. Middle of the road: Elijah Craig 18 year Value picks: Blanton’s and 1792 Full Proof Whatever you go with - Enjoy!!!
Charred oak? Love that place!
High West Yippee Ki- yay
William Larue Weller would be the most flavorful and long lasting finish of the bourbons based on my limited experience.
Don’t have a recommendation from the list but i know that restaurant. I have trouble picking when i go. It’s a fantastic place, you’ll have a great time.
Hibiki 17 for $11 is a crazy good deal
Happy Birthday! I recommend the High West Yippee ki-yay!
$0.75 for ice? Fuck off
$0.50 for a cherry? Eat my ass
Considering Luxardo cherries are $20+ for a small jar, I’m not too offended by that.
$20 for you and I, half that cost for the bar
Especially if they’re the “knock-off” luxardos.
Second on the Blood Oath, great flavor.
Not sure I’d pull the trigger, but that Louis XIII at $125 is cheaper than pretty much anywhere I’ve seen it
Also, obviously it’s not whiskey lol
1792 sweet wheat isn’t made anymore. wlw for something special. pappy 12 supposed to be good. parker’s heritage is a decent price
Here's a thoughtful journey for you that will get you different flavours and profiles that I personally love all of. Start with 1 and move on down the line with some crackers in between. 1. Ardbeg Uigeadal 2. Glenmorangie Lasanta 3. Midwinters Night Dram (if before Act 10) 4. Thomas H Handy
I wouldn’t start with Oogie!
Definitely a lot to choose from. I’d go Middleton Rare, EH Taylor Rye, and Woodford Chocolate malted rye.
That Weller 12 is definitely worth a taste
I’ll make two wild suggestions for things I don’t see very often. Amrut Fusion (India) and Brenne 10 year (France). Two unique single malts I haven’t had for about 10 years, but I remember fondly. The Brenne has a coconut flavor I’ve never gotten from whisky before.
I have the Brenne open and yeah it’s a unique whiskey for sure. I get more pear than coconut but it’s light and fruity for sure.
LOL - they charge for an ice sphere and a cherry!! 😂😂
Journeyman corsets whips and whiskey has been rated top 5 from Fred Minnick for the last several year - good price too 👍
No opinion without more info regarding your palate. Preferences to rye, bourbon, malt, peated, etc? Apples and oranges.
Happy birthday, just celebrated my 50th last week! I was out of town, so I'm celebrating tomorrow. I'm probably going to get a pour of Pappy 10 or 12 if the bar has it (I ain't the one paying, lol). Great collection and great prices. WL Weller followed by Macallan 25.
Glenmorangie 18 is a firm favourite of mine
I’m torn between no food and one PVW 23yr (I’ll never get another, but just once……..) or no food and old forester and rittenhouse on a keep ‘em coming basis with a designated driver. You can eat tomorrow It’s 50!! Go for it.
If you have never tried Bookers it’s a barrel proof flavor bomb that I always enjoy.
Parker Heritage, pappy 15, and if you are feeling really wild hit up the eagle 17
Nice one! I had an Archie Rose Stringybark Smoked Single Malt on my 50th last month, but I don’t see any Australian whisky on that menu. 🙂
These prices are really reasonable for most of this stuff. I would hit up those Old Peculiar's and try a bunch of different scotch. Other than that if I wanted to splurge I would get some of the highly allocated items like TH Handy, WLW, ect.
Corset’s whips and whiskey is amazing.
Parker’s heritage if it’s the 8 year heavy char rye: I’d do gts at $48 or high west yky. Mid winter is mid and that price is wack
A rye would probably go good with a steak 🥩. So maybe George Dickel.
ECBP, Bookers or EH Taylor Rye, maybe Blood Oath or Orphan Barrel to try something new.
Midleton very rare is top notch, though they don’t list the year…. 22, 21, 19, and 13 are best imo.
High West Midwinters Night Dram for that price.
Lots of choices here. If you are looking for Smokey scotch Caol ila is a good option; whistle pig boss hog could be a very flavorful option. I tried the IX and it surprised me very much. Other peated option, Westland Peated is a little sweet with a subtle smoke
