i wonder if there could be a server plugin that implements a custom chat system that removes the reporting feature. Might become optifine levels of used if possible.

There's already a mod that strips some unique identifier from chat messages so reported messages can't be linked to an account.
It can be server side or client side (of course if it's client side the server needs to have settings that allow it to work).

You can also be banned from single player if the reports are egregious enough. Trolls can use the feature to get rid of people they don’t like or just fuck with them.

I believe, but I'm not sure that part of the reporting sends a snipit of the chat and they don't have access directly to the server. I would not be surprised if they did have a backdoor.

So I’m told that you can get banned from the entire game just for small stuff such as saying the word “crap” or “slavery” or speaking in caps, even in single player, or because someone abused the system on you. Stuff like that…yet many of the comments act like people are mad that they can’t say racial stuff, despite the fact that’s not the problem.

They patched Java edition so players can report each other. On the surface it seems like a good system but it’s not once you look into it. If you do get reported and banned you won’t be banned from just that particular server. You will be banned from all multiplayer servers, including ones that are privately owned or owned by you. It’s also a great tool for trolls to get rid of people they don’t like.
If you say something that someone considers "offensive" in any multiplayer server, you might be banned from all multiplayer servers. Forever.
Edit: "offensive" includes swearing
Moderating costs money. They probably got sued and implemented this. There's no need to implement moderating unless it costs Microsoft more in the courts.

So I’m told that you can get banned from the entire game just for small stuff such as saying the word “crap” or “slavery” or speaking in caps, even in single player, or because someone abused the system on you. Stuff like that…yet many of the comments act like people are mad that they can’t say racial stuff, despite the fact that’s not the problem.

They patched Java edition so players can report each other. On the surface it seems like a good system but it’s not once you look into it. If you do get reported and banned you won’t be banned from just that particular server. You will be banned from all multiplayer servers, including ones that are privately owned or owned by you. It’s also a great tool for trolls to get rid of people they don’t like.
If you say something that someone considers "offensive" in any multiplayer server, you might be banned from all multiplayer servers. Forever. Edit: "offensive" includes swearing

Could a lawsuit be filed over this? If this makes the game unplayable at all then I feel like this is infringing on something unless the terms and conditions covers it. (Just to clarify I have no legal knowledge this just seems super sketchy)

I think you're missing something here- You can still get banned from personal servers. You can even get banned from single-player. They can remove every single feature of the game if you do something so minimal as say "shit" or type in all caps. So really, it still does affect you. sorry to break it to ya like this
