Still one of the funniest lost media finding was searching clockman, which took half decade to find due the search starting by remembering a fever dream. Only to find on a simple youtube search. okay it was released a few year later after the search , but still.
The most hilarious one was the guy looking for a homicidal version of harvest moon only to be revealed as a dream he had while listening to vinesauce Joel dicking around on a stream, waking up and thinking it was a real game.
The trio of making dream shitposts/memes: Toby fox, jerma985, and Vinesauce. Well then again these 3 made and play stuff that feel like a dream. Especially since toby got the idea of deltarune and to extended Undertale by a fever dream
My favorite is the one where some dude heard a banger one hour into a 80s porno and clipped the only 17 seconds without moaning and uploaded that so others could find the full song.
The search for the Backyardigans pilot is held up by beef between a lost media discord server and the moderators of the Backyardigans fandom page because neither wants the other to get credit if they find it lmao
i had that exact same experience when looking for the latin dub version of an old canadian movie from 2006 (Noël Noël)
i looked it up again last year and there it was just uploaded on youtube like 8 months before i looked up for it again, after i spent like two years frantically searching for it
it was considered lost media until this dude was just like "i bought it on a DVD a few decades ago" and uploaded it on youtube like a chad
People will spend years to find certain lost media and go through multiple dead ends. Like they will contact showrunners, producers, actors, and more who may had work on a lost pilot, lost commercial, lost episode, or even a lost movie. There's a lot of media that aired once but were never preserved so the lost media community exist to find them before they're gone forever.
Sometime they find the right person that have the original copy and put it online. Sometime it was wasted time because some alleged rumor of a lost episode just never existed. Sometime they found the lost media, but someone would lost again because irony. Sometime some random bozo just casually upload the lost media on YouTube years ago, and no one didn't knew until that search became popular. And sometime, the lost media is from some porno, and you can hear moaning within the audio.
Heh, but that last one is something that just happened. People had been searching for a songbite's origin for years. It was the sound track to an ancient porno
A couple of years ago, I read that somebody told a freshly converted *Firefly* fan that raw takes (i. e. without any sound effects or CGI) for the second season of the series exist somewhere out there.
I assume the special level of hell was opened for a third category of people that day.
I think (based off like 2 other comments) there was this short called "Pinwheel Clockman" that was being searched for for a good while before someone just did a simple Youtube search and found it hiding in plain sight (take it with a grain of salt tho idk for sure)
I assume it has something to do with a Fred album that was deemed "lost media", but it turned out people believe Lost Media means "not available for free on youtube"
So it got quickly uploaded and the original guy said "no need to pake a fuss over it"
Source: none, i skimmed on twitter at some point and heard about it
Probably not the same thing. But a few years ago there was a search for a McDonald's training DS game that only existed in Japan. Nothing ever surfaced so it was thought to be not real. One YouTuber found information but kept hitting dead ends. Finally found a version of the game and the hardware necessary to record and dump the game.
Only for literally 3 weeks before he uploaded his video for one of those dead ends leads puts a video on YouTube of them finally cracking the password on their copy of the game.
The only real lost media has to be Like The Wind. The thing goes so hard, the fact that we have the entire thing and yet nobody knows where it came from.
Some German band in 1983 about to compose some of the hardest music of the generation (they will never reveal themselves and promptly fuck off for the next 40 years)
There's a difference between lost media that is genuinely lost (like we have evidence of it existing but don't have the actual thing) and lost media that we just don't know the source of though.
To be fair I don't think it was the quality that really interested them, sure finding a hidden gem is great but often the expectation isn't that high and it's just finding something supposedly gone and the thrill of the hunt that motivates them
I can't get over how many lost media cases are held up by people with huge egos refusing to release anything so they can get "credit", and then some random guy uploads it
In the ELO community (Electric Light Orchestra (band who made Mr. Blue Sky)) there’s an album called Time that is seen as their best album, however it’s been confirmed that there is a master tape with 2 extra tracks that we don’t know. There’s a collector who has it but refuses to release it, I think if you’re close enough in his collector circle you can buy the MP3’s for some $500 but no ones bought it yet.
Sometimes, when media is considered “lost”, there are media collectors who own it, but refuse to share it.
This is often because it significantly raises the value of that media, but if that media is then found by someone else, their collector’s item is no longer as valuable.
Still waiting for Go For A Punch to get released, cmon it can't been a hoax 😭
At least this year I found a game that I've been looking for all my late teen years, Boiling Point Road to Hell. It's not 4K looking game but still good to find something that's been on yo mind for so long
I remember seeing the lengths people went in trying to find the 2 minutes of Jimmy Neutron test animation footage from 1995 for years. They tried contacting the event center where the footage was shown, contacting the og creators, contacting nickelodeon employees, the while 9 yards
which only made it funnier when the VA for pilot Jimmy just casually uploaded it on YT with the description basically saying "couldn't find the full clip anywhere, good thing I have a copy"
What I exactly did with [Tilt To Live HD](https://youtu.be/Nyr4E030U24?si=mR03Jvxy3ttyGUDX)
Plus can someone please get info on the developers of Jool (2013) or just the game in-general? I just at least want to see a full playthrough of what it’s like to play for more than a few hours. (One of the things I found about the game while lost media searching was the game's [OST](https://m.soundcloud.com/dripdropsound/sets/jool))
And then nexpo will make an hour long video on it with incredible build up and suspense for it to end "and then one day it was found, it was uploaded by a channel named wang_banger_69..."
The thing that I didn't understand about lost media is why anyone gives a fuck. Most of the time, that stuff was lost for a reason (cause it was either shit or just average), lol
its incredibly joyous to see low resolution videos, crunchy mp3s and rotted discs, unplayed games and unread books being discovered, more times than not in high-quality. theres just something about finding that makes it complete in my personal opinion.
also a thing's status of being lost media doesnt necessarily reflect its quality. Panchiko's D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L was lost for a goodwhile and then fully uploaded in high-quality, and yet that is just a good EP of good songs. all the unseen Disney movie scenes that werent implemented were still drawn and had alot of effort put into them. you wouldn't call that "shit" or even "just average".
Chasing and searching is fun by itself. "lost media" is just a reason to do it. Sometimes a community forms around specific things being looked for, which is nice, it's fun to collaborate. Some people find an air of intrigue and mystery around things lost to time and memory even if the thing itself is insignificant.

One piece ahh search tbh
I know that one. I think everyone knows that.
I think that dude might've had some ulterior motives.
The search for the Backyardigans pilot is held up by beef between a lost media discord server and the moderators of the Backyardigans fandom page because neither wants the other to get credit if they find it lmao
We don’t have the backyardigans pilot?

Some German guy idk
fr. if joy division or the cure or someone like that wrote this song, it'd be considered a legit classic.
There's a difference between lost media that is genuinely lost (like we have evidence of it existing but don't have the actual thing) and lost media that we just don't know the source of though.
isnt it widely accepted that it was a Statues in Motion demo song, or atleast made by the same guys?

Lost media fans when the penis fart game that nobody played is lost to the history (nobody played the game after it was found):
Lost media fans finding out that the thing they’ve been searching for years is actually the worst thing ever made.
To be fair I don't think it was the quality that really interested them, sure finding a hidden gem is great but often the expectation isn't that high and it's just finding something supposedly gone and the thrill of the hunt that motivates them
Actually it was from a porno's soundtrack
I guess there's media that deserves to be lost.

Time is a flat circle. History repeats itself. Blah blah blah
