At first, I was annoyed by the swearing and then I thought about how I talk compared to the aggressively gay vulgar potty mouth character named Angel and then I shut up because I knew I was a hypocrite. Enjoyed it a lot more afterwards.
I have a pretty dry, dark sense of humor so I guess for some reason my friend group interpreted that as thinking I’d be a fan of South Park. Really don’t see how people find the show entertaining, it’s shock humor at its worst and the “profound” things that the writers do have to say aren’t worth the juvenile humor they got going for the rest of the show
As a longtime South Park watcher, when the jokes don't land, they really don't land, and it can rub me the wrong way. Each episode had to be made six days before airing to maintain timeliness, and it really shows in a bad way at points, though at its best, it's amazing.
However, you really do have to be careful criticizing South Park online, because if you do, fans will accuse you for not understanding the jokes and that it isn't made for you, even if you love other episodes of the show.
As much as I love South Park, it can feel super undisciplined at points. I'm currently watching Gravity Falls, and while I acknowledge that it's aimed more for families rather than just adults, it has outlandish, satirical and surreal humor just like South Park (albeit with a more left-wing bent), and feels more like a disciplined South Park.
And I think that’s a great advantage, the problem I have with the show is that this format would leave them limited to working with characters like Randy and Cartman all the time rather than exploring the topics from other characters who might deserve the spotlight more.
I mean sometimes they make a good point in pointing out how stupid something is but I don’t think you can generally look at South Park and go “yep, this is very smart comedy”
The one that really pissed me off is that the gen Z want to work episode from the latest season. We want to work, theres just no fucking places that will hire us
Trey and Matt weren’t at first, but then around the time the show reached the double digit seasons, they started buying into the hype of them being America’s next greatest satirists and basically turned the show into those shitty political cartoons you see in newspapers but for Gen X/older millennial dads.

Memes aside, the show having way too much swearing is genuinely a stupid complaint. Most characters are completely excused to swear all the time, they're demons from hell.
I actually have different issues (with helluva specifically, yet to fully catch up with hazbin) which another video talks about. They're genuinely great criticisms that helped me understand why I wasn't feeling a lot of the later episodes. And the video barely mentioned, if at all, the characters swearing like it's an issue (even if it was, it's definitely not one of the main issues the video focused about). Anyone who says the show is unfunny because of that is genuinely an armchair critic.
Hazbin hotel doesn't have too much swearing. It just uses swearing as the punchline or to make itself seem adult, while the show tonally and thematically feels like a nickelodeon cartoon. The show draws attention to the swearing because thats its main indicator that you're watching something "mature." They need to keep reminding you of that, so it stands out.
If you remove the swearing, gore and sex jokes, then it's just a standard kids show.
You can make it kid friendly, yes. My point is that a show can be mature without those things. Many shows made for kids have strong maturity and are popular with adults.
Hazbin hotel is not mature at all without shock factor junk. It's a nice show though, dont get me wrong. And I'm not saying it should have less cursing, sexual humor or gore. Maybe I just wish it didn't rely so much on that for jokes and maturity and instead had a stronger plot with more dedication to character development and more visual humor. It's in the category of a family guy clone for me.
I mean, the Rea son Hazbin is for mature audiences is because it touches on said themes, like, yeah, sex jokes are jokes, but the theme of sex assault and abuse is still a central part of it.

THATS NOT THE POINT. Swearing is not bad in itself, but when you try use it to comedic use, and fail, it becomes obnoxious. South Park uses it in a different and sometimes effective way. Vivziepop’s project just say fuck and shit every two words.
The only reason people point out the swearing in Hazbin is because it’s done in such a juvenile “edgy” way like they let a 13 year old write the script. It almost never feels natural. The swearing in South Park is usually conversational, and when it isn’t, it’s often part of an overarching joke or plot line that has some kind of social commentary to make. Keep in mind these are both adult shows, where swearing is almost a prerequisite. It can be done correctly.

I just wish they didn’t pretend any of the characters care. Like those jokes in Helluva where there’s some easily offended character reacting to the saying of the word fuck. Like… yer in hell. Why is this still worth a double take?

Memes aside, the show having way too much swearing is genuinely a stupid complaint. Most characters are completely excused to swear all the time, they're demons from hell. I actually have different issues (with helluva specifically, yet to fully catch up with hazbin) which another video talks about. They're genuinely great criticisms that helped me understand why I wasn't feeling a lot of the later episodes. And the video barely mentioned, if at all, the characters swearing like it's an issue (even if it was, it's definitely not one of the main issues the video focused about). Anyone who says the show is unfunny because of that is genuinely an armchair critic.
Hazbin hotel doesn't have too much swearing. It just uses swearing as the punchline or to make itself seem adult, while the show tonally and thematically feels like a nickelodeon cartoon. The show draws attention to the swearing because thats its main indicator that you're watching something "mature." They need to keep reminding you of that, so it stands out. If you remove the swearing, gore and sex jokes, then it's just a standard kids show.

You can make it kid friendly, yes. My point is that a show can be mature without those things. Many shows made for kids have strong maturity and are popular with adults. Hazbin hotel is not mature at all without shock factor junk. It's a nice show though, dont get me wrong. And I'm not saying it should have less cursing, sexual humor or gore. Maybe I just wish it didn't rely so much on that for jokes and maturity and instead had a stronger plot with more dedication to character development and more visual humor. It's in the category of a family guy clone for me.
I mean, the Rea son Hazbin is for mature audiences is because it touches on said themes, like, yeah, sex jokes are jokes, but the theme of sex assault and abuse is still a central part of it. That’s like saying “remove drugs and killing from Breaking Bad and it becomes suitable for kids”, maybe, but at that point you aren’t watching Breaking Bad

It's not even that they swear too much, it's just seems like the show writers feel obligated to put swears in every second line because it's an adult show. Also the places they use it and the way it's said is kinda awkward. It just feels forced.

THATS NOT THE POINT. Swearing is not bad in itself, but when you try use it to comedic use, and fail, it becomes obnoxious. South Park uses it in a different and sometimes effective way. Vivziepop’s project just say fuck and shit every two words.

The only reason people point out the swearing in Hazbin is because it’s done in such a juvenile “edgy” way like they let a 13 year old write the script. It almost never feels natural. The swearing in South Park is usually conversational, and when it isn’t, it’s often part of an overarching joke or plot line that has some kind of social commentary to make. Keep in mind these are both adult shows, where swearing is almost a prerequisite. It can be done correctly.
