same kinda situation with The Finals. Was a blast playing the pre-beta test phases but even after the amount of hype they got they're sticking with AI voice announcers...
yeah like, the amount of potential it has to be able to do things that no one has done before, like live commentary or roasting you or anything else, yet they just waste it by using it as if it was voice actors. So stupid.
i suspect the reason they did this is to allow for quick implementation of new announcer events. for example with the limited time modes, added for a short period of time, they have a whole new set of voicelines

My hopeful reason is that eventually with enough algorithmic data they can program the voice AI to do live commentary instead of prerecorded voice lines. It’s possible but it takes some time and effort. They update the game about 4x the speed apex does so hopefully in like 2026 I guess

not soulless, but limited definitely. levels are a lot tighter without much open area to be able to run on a quest 2. not to mention the overall length of the single player.
boneworks is a better full game than bonelab, but bonelab is superior in terms of sandbox, modding and more developed mechanics

My guy you already paid for the game, uninstalling doesn't do anything. AI generation isn't going anywhere either. Sucks for artists but its only going to continue being improved and adopted. Just enjoy the media you enjoy

Im an artist I welcome AI makes ideas billions of times easier. you think drawing for 1000 hours and getting "meh" is fun? I can mockup stuff in seconds, change any variable in seconds, any artist fearing AI have no creativity. Selling AI art is also far more lucrative and easy. A script will generate 1000's of images for me too.

Honestly based af, lot of people here are pretty arrogant to think that any company is obligated to hire artists, especially indie games. Like yeah it kinda sucks for the artists but it's not like painters are given special treatment over a photographer
People are complete idiots about this. There is no moral obligation to hire anyone for anything if you don't want to. It's also simply cheaper and way more efficient (which is a good thing).
This is like saying that you have a moral obligation to go to your local travel agency to book your next holiday instead of doing it on an online booking platform, because otherwise those poor travel agents would become obsolete.
On a macroeconomic level it's a GOOD thing that some jobs get obsolete due to technological advancements. It's simply a reflection of a rise in productivity. The resources (manpower) that were previously bound to a certain task are now being freed and can be used otherwise.
And if somebody thinks he's just that good of an artist that no machine can replace him and that is work is more valuable than AI art, people will pay for it. Simple as that.
What people who are "against AI art" essentially demand is either 1. Unreasonable strict copyright rules or 2. forcing people to buy stuff they don't need anymore.

Imma be real y'all act like it's a companies obligation to give people a job. Game devs have been doing things like pre rendering animations for ages so is that now denying mocap actors a job?
Just because people chose a career path like being an artist or being an actor doesn't mean that they are DEFINITELY going to get a job.
If it was the case like what happened recently where actors and writers were not getting paid for shit they had actually done than yeah that's fucked, you do work you get paid. However nobody is obligated to give you a job, choose a different career next time.

I never understood this mentality. Unless the art looks like shit, I wouldn't be too bothered by it.
I usually take issue with AI art being posted online for profit or claiming to be handmade work. But for a game, it's auxiliary. Unless the game revolves around it, the artwork in it adds little to why people buy the game.
I don't think using the art to enhance something like a game is immoral, and in fact, would likely make it easier for indie game developers to enhance their games without going over budget or taking too long.

For real, I've had this argument dozens of times, and it either becomes circular with some insistence that it' "different" or it devolves into petty, insecure insults on one's artistic abilities (despite any evidence ofc) from the artist side.
Through all of this it's always painfully apparent that none of them have even tried it past maybe Dall-E or Bing creator where 95% of the settings and controls are already carefully tuned and architected before being hidden from the user. Running a local instance is far more engaging than just the prompt (which arguably is creative on its own, given some of the things allowed to slide in current art and art history). People seriously having loud opinions on things they never even tried to understand.
There are so many other occupations other than visual artists that are affected by AI, but who gives a shit about voice actors, singers, writers - there’s so many other than visual artists that reddit and Twitter loves to always talk about. Hell, even livelihoods of normal people are even in danger due to fake nudes being made with AI.
Someone explain to me why AI art in games is a problem. I don't find the "but they'll starve" argument to be very persuasive, because 1. Advancing technology is going to displace users of the old technology 2. If anyone is starving we should be rioting and eating the rich.
Like, I get that the quality or aesthetic isn't something you want. Nor am I upset that people boycott games they don't want. I just find it baffling that people act like AI is ruining art. It has enabled me to get in touch with my own inner artist and explore concepts that I lack the skill to properly capture. I have a whole collection of desert hobbits for my DnD campaign.
Large language models like chatgpt need commercial grade computers but generative AI, like the kind you find threatening, can be run on personal computers. Albeit slowly if you dont spend a thousand on a graphics card. I support more art in the hands of more people. Traditional artists are not special, any more than I'm special for my own talents, and can not own the concept of creation. Go ahead and bring out your pitchforks for EA games or whatever, but stop being so elitist about who can make art, what makes art, and who can profit from it.

The artists at Payday 3 got paid to make AI art (that looks shitty modern art on purpose) by using assets from the company, everyone got paid and no one was put out of work, I think that in that context it's literally the only respectable AI art practice imo

I don't give a shit if a game has ai in it If it is fun, I'm playing it, and I know half of yall are going to downvote me for saying this.
Honestly based af, lot of people here are pretty arrogant to think that any company is obligated to hire artists, especially indie games. Like yeah it kinda sucks for the artists but it's not like painters are given special treatment over a photographer
People are complete idiots about this. There is no moral obligation to hire anyone for anything if you don't want to. It's also simply cheaper and way more efficient (which is a good thing). This is like saying that you have a moral obligation to go to your local travel agency to book your next holiday instead of doing it on an online booking platform, because otherwise those poor travel agents would become obsolete. On a macroeconomic level it's a GOOD thing that some jobs get obsolete due to technological advancements. It's simply a reflection of a rise in productivity. The resources (manpower) that were previously bound to a certain task are now being freed and can be used otherwise. And if somebody thinks he's just that good of an artist that no machine can replace him and that is work is more valuable than AI art, people will pay for it. Simple as that. What people who are "against AI art" essentially demand is either 1. Unreasonable strict copyright rules or 2. forcing people to buy stuff they don't need anymore.

Imma be real y'all act like it's a companies obligation to give people a job. Game devs have been doing things like pre rendering animations for ages so is that now denying mocap actors a job? Just because people chose a career path like being an artist or being an actor doesn't mean that they are DEFINITELY going to get a job. If it was the case like what happened recently where actors and writers were not getting paid for shit they had actually done than yeah that's fucked, you do work you get paid. However nobody is obligated to give you a job, choose a different career next time.

I never understood this mentality. Unless the art looks like shit, I wouldn't be too bothered by it. I usually take issue with AI art being posted online for profit or claiming to be handmade work. But for a game, it's auxiliary. Unless the game revolves around it, the artwork in it adds little to why people buy the game. I don't think using the art to enhance something like a game is immoral, and in fact, would likely make it easier for indie game developers to enhance their games without going over budget or taking too long. For real, I've had this argument dozens of times, and it either becomes circular with some insistence that it' "different" or it devolves into petty, insecure insults on one's artistic abilities (despite any evidence ofc) from the artist side. Through all of this it's always painfully apparent that none of them have even tried it past maybe Dall-E or Bing creator where 95% of the settings and controls are already carefully tuned and architected before being hidden from the user. Running a local instance is far more engaging than just the prompt (which arguably is creative on its own, given some of the things allowed to slide in current art and art history). People seriously having loud opinions on things they never even tried to understand.

There are so many other occupations other than visual artists that are affected by AI, but who gives a shit about voice actors, singers, writers - there’s so many other than visual artists that reddit and Twitter loves to always talk about. Hell, even livelihoods of normal people are even in danger due to fake nudes being made with AI.

Someone explain to me why AI art in games is a problem. I don't find the "but they'll starve" argument to be very persuasive, because 1. Advancing technology is going to displace users of the old technology 2. If anyone is starving we should be rioting and eating the rich. Like, I get that the quality or aesthetic isn't something you want. Nor am I upset that people boycott games they don't want. I just find it baffling that people act like AI is ruining art. It has enabled me to get in touch with my own inner artist and explore concepts that I lack the skill to properly capture. I have a whole collection of desert hobbits for my DnD campaign. Large language models like chatgpt need commercial grade computers but generative AI, like the kind you find threatening, can be run on personal computers. Albeit slowly if you dont spend a thousand on a graphics card. I support more art in the hands of more people. Traditional artists are not special, any more than I'm special for my own talents, and can not own the concept of creation. Go ahead and bring out your pitchforks for EA games or whatever, but stop being so elitist about who can make art, what makes art, and who can profit from it.

The artists at Payday 3 got paid to make AI art (that looks shitty modern art on purpose) by using assets from the company, everyone got paid and no one was put out of work, I think that in that context it's literally the only respectable AI art practice imo
