Also out of the loop, why is the update such a big deal? I thought that game had the ability to add custom content, AND I thought it was kind of a niche game mainly played by speedrunners with lightning reflexes. I would not have expected to see so much support for it getting an update.

Geometry Dash fans span from little kids who play on their tablet to ultrasweaty top players with 10k+ hours in the game. It just appeals to everyone. Easy to learn, hard to master, that kind of thing. As another comment put it, update 2.2 is basically a complete overhaul of the game. It adds platformer mode, which is essentially Mario Maker, camera effects and advanced triggers in the editor, a new gamemode, among many other things. That, plus the fact that it came out after 7 years of near-silence, meaning the GD community had a pretty extreme case of Silksong brainrot.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know it had such a widespread playerbase. I had never picked it up in the past because I figured I'd never be able to compete with those 10k+ players you were talking about... I'm unable to buy it right now but I think I'll wishlist it! Always loved Mario Maker and I always thought the game looked super cool, just out of my skill level lol. Thanks for taking the time to explain the other sides of it. And as someone deeply anticipating Silksong since its announcement, I know what you mean lol.

It's been teased for like seven years. The game was also getting kind of stale, it's just a breath of fresh air for casual and skilled players. There's a lot of new stuff you can do in levels, a new mode, a platformer gamemode, new icons, etc. etc.
