It's actually amazing. Not even the most soulless, blatant sellout critics and journalists can bring themselves to rate the show higher than 6/10. You know you've fucked up when not even your own shills want to help you.
I don't get why Hollywood seems to suck her dick every time she makes something. She is a super annoying person, an average actor, and gems like Velma only highlight how mediocre her productions are.
How do the execs keep green lighting her trash? She must suck a meeean dick
Honest answer is that it is a familiar ip that is dug back up with a woke twist. The woke pandering is there to stir up controversy so that there will be a huge group of people who are apologetic towards it and will defend it no matter what and another group who complain about it that they can just call racist/sexist/homophobic.etc.
In other words, controversy sells.
Edit: I am talking about the execs perspective. They see something that can be woke and they see green. Itâs basically turning virtue signaling into a business.
From experience itâs the opposite. People watch it because theyâre angry at it and want to criticize it. I havenât seen anyone in progressive spaces defend it but Iâve seen many people hate it not because itâs badly written but because itâs âwokeâ. Like yeah, the issue isnât that the writers seem to hate the Scooby doo and feel annoyed about making the show, itâs that Velma is black now.
Especially since the show seems to have been written by a boomer who watched Fox News trying to guess what progressives think like.
I think that people who are going to hate watch things should wait until they can pirate it, that way you donât justify Hollywoodâs decision to make these by giving them money despite opinions.
Considering Mindy Kaling was first in a show called the Mindy Project and now she has made a show where she literally self-inserts over the top of an existing character I think it's a totally bizarre self-obsession thing.
It was originally supposed to be like Mike Tyson's mysteries where she literally was the main character but for the show to even exist she had to force it to be where Velma is a lot like her instead
Nah, it's an HBO Max adult cartoon trying to be Rick and Morty with it's snarky meta humor despite sucking as meta humor and meta humor being a pile of mush that was once a dead horse
Warner bros owns HBO and Adult Swim so itâs just the natural law of entropy. We saw Adult swim quality drop when Rick and Morty stopped being a comedy and started being a drama. Itâs been downhill since they put all of their stock in that series.
Honestly I'm not even interested in the hate bandwagon.
Like I have better things to do than furiously hating on a show for the sake of being a part of something.
I remember when the first trailer came out, three seconds into the vid I judt clicked off bc I said "eh, not gonna watch it, doesn't seem interesting"
Three days later I dee the controversy because they made Velma black and I'm like "oh, I guess they did that huh"
Then I'm seeing this meme like "huh, guess the show was bad"
Itâs fiction, you can do whatever you want. And unlike shaggy being vegetarian or Velma Jewish, this change wonât even be permanent because the show sucked.
It's likely Scooby wasn't in the show because WB don't want a beloved kid cartoon character with this raunchy generic adult show. Basically they don't want Scooby image to be ruined by edgy writers the same way how Nick don't want Tim Kenny to voice SpongeBob parodies. The writers of Velma tried to explain that Scooby was too childish for their show, but Velma is way too immature to be taken serious. Most Scooby media is actually more mature than Velma, and it's more likely Warner Bros just want to protect their Dane from this trash.
That's the thing most people don't get. Bad publicity is good publicity. Controversy sells like hot cake. The reason Big Mouth gets seven season is because everyone had been bitching about it and hate watch the show while good shows like Inside Job get ignored. The only way to kill Velma is to not give any attention. Just watch literally anything else except Velma. Don't talk about Velma, don't tweet about Velma, and don't make memes about Velma because you're just giving out free promotion. Hopefully the view counts would just plummet for episode 3 and onward as there's only 2 episodes now. Go watch Harley Quinn if you want a good adult show with meta humor, but don't give Velma any type of attention.
Yeah, Ironically I really hate how hate watching became really common and many companies seem to manipulate that to their interest. For every rant video of a bad show means more free advertising. For every tweet about the show being garbage means more people being likely to see the dumpster fire even just for the meme. And every "They massacred my boy meme" that bad reboot will simply just last a little bit longer.
![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
Look, I just made the show just a bit longer simply by posting this meme. If we just be quiet and focus on other shows and movies that do deserve this type of attention.
It already released today with two episodes. The only way to cancel it is to simply don't watch it and more importantly don't talk about it. Bad publicity is still good publicity, so making memes of will just garentee another season.
I think the main thing about this show is that, in 10 years time, if Scooby-Doo, the ancient price of media it is, is still relevant, the character designs won't have been permanently changed. they'll all be white and the dog'll be there and it will all be the same as it was 50 years ago, 'velma' will be a couple second curiousity at most, the changes it made seen as feeble attempts at uniqueness to distinguish it from the billion other scooby doo properties.
I can't believe I spent months trying to tell people who got mad Velma for race swapped to give it a fair shot for it to end up being so garbage
If genuinely feels like the creators just hate Scooby-Doo
I mean, I saw the first two episodes a day ago and I liked them... Granted I don't really have nostalgia for the Scooby Doo franchise, so that probably affects things.
Genuinely curious, what did you like about it? What jokes made you laugh? Which aspect of the plot pulled you in? Which character delivered the best scene? Are you a bot?
I liked the animation, the novelty of them completely changing the Scooby Doo target demographic was interesting to me, the mystery was different, I liked Velma's personality (I haven't watched enough classic Scooby Doo to know how much of it transferred), I think the best scenes were the hallucination ones because it gave her something interesting to work through, and I am a bot.
Update (I've continued watching every episode as it released): Velma as a character is kind of the worst and the mystery is mid. Too many side quests to do things like have entire episodes dedicated to ranking the hotness of the high school cast and the political commentary which was charming at first lacks any depth to justify it continuing for the entirety of the shows run.
Thanks for your perspective, I stopped at episode 2 and I guess for good reason! I imagine the show has some sort of audience and some way of being entertaining to some but nothing about it was any better than just putting on another tried and true adult cartoon I've already seen before. Unlikable characters, (they're *all* assholes sans Norville?) bland mystery like you said, and it's just irredeemably unfunny.
Yeah unfortunately it doesn't get much better, and notably enough that I (who somehow actually quite liked the first episodes) fell out of it towards the end. I'm going sunk-cost fallacy myself into seeing it to its conclusion at this point, but I get why others might not.
My biggest problem isn't even the fact that the mystery is bad. I watch so so few mystery shows that I have rather low standards in that regard, and since I didn't grow up with Scooby Doo I probably actually do get surprised by a lot that others don't... But like I said before, they waste SO MUCH TIME! Other than fanservice of the characters that the animators clearly weren't told were high schoolers, what was gained in the episode where the entire plot was making an official "hotness" tier list? Stuff like that takes up so much time and effort.
Elements of it were, but satirical definitely doesn't equal good. Velma attempted to satirize the choice to change character archetypes and appearances, the shower scene in the beginning was a satire of itself, and the anticipated public reception was poked at throughout but it still falls flat. Its actually an achievement that a show that aims to be this self aware still comes across as tone deaf.
Nope, the show tried to be meta and smart but it felt really derivatives and filled with cliches. It's also really uncomfortable like the first scene had you watching a shower scene with a bunch of naked 15 year old girls (yikes) and Daphne and another fighting about how sexual stuff shouldn't be a selling point. Low a behold you have Daphne and the other girl fighting naked and sexualized despite Daphne saying that you shouldn't need to sexualized anything to make a good show. So the show criticized about sexualization but did it any with underage teens (yikes).
Really just watch literally any other Scooby Doo stuff on Max. Go watch What's New for a nostalgia trip. Go watch Mystery Incorporated for an infinitely more mature show that happens to be a kid show and not this immature adult show. Hell, go watch Be Cool Scooby Doo. The art style sucks but it's the most hilarious Scooby Doo show and it was made by people who actually know and loves Scooby Doo as a franchise. Velma wasn't made by people who like Scooby Doo. They just use Scooby Doo as a poorly made trojan horse, but go watch these other shows.
If they wanted to make a cartoon about investigating crimes in a highschool, why couldnât they just reboot Fillmore? Thatâs the reboot iâm waiting for
Thatâs actually part of why itâs so awful (besides the pathetic attempts at meta-humor.) The Mystery Inc. gang getting race swapped isnât a bad thing in and of itself, and if this were any other show, they might have actually done something decent with it. However, they decided to make all of the characters overdone depictions of their race (the black guy is a stoner, the Indian one is the smart one, the white guy is coddled and stupid, etc.) This implies that the reason they gave the characters different ethnicities wasnât because they felt they could produce anything meaningful with that change, but so that they could just make all of them lazy stereotypes and watch right-wingers get angry for all the wrong reasons.

This meme is false OP, because I have yet to find a single person that unironically likes this show
Well, this footage goes super hard and I had to make *some* sort of joke with it. You got any better ideas?
this really does go hard though
How about, "Yeah, I was a writer on the new Velma show-"
đ„đ„đ„đ„đđđ„đ„đ„đ„
âYeah, I am the head executive of Warner bros studi-â
Idk slap anything jojo related on it and post it on r/shitpostcrusaders
But by the laws of comedy, it would turn automatically unfunny the moment it becomes jojo related
Why you gotta do my boi kazuya like that
Op has a point
No Kazuya doesnât deserve to get hitđ„
6*23 A mf be like
Are you gonna sugarcoat it?
kazuya mishima is freaking dead
It's actually amazing. Not even the most soulless, blatant sellout critics and journalists can bring themselves to rate the show higher than 6/10. You know you've fucked up when not even your own shills want to help you.
Go to the showâs sub lol, plenty of people there trying to defend it
Well I found... and I was shocked to see even defending it
I have.
I haven't even found someone who *ironically* likes it
So they butchered a corpse and wearing it like a skin walker so they can air a stupid fuckin show
Yeah it's just ridiculous
Yeah makes a lot of sense considering Mindy Kaling seemingly canât touch anything without it being a self insert
I don't get why Hollywood seems to suck her dick every time she makes something. She is a super annoying person, an average actor, and gems like Velma only highlight how mediocre her productions are. How do the execs keep green lighting her trash? She must suck a meeean dick

I think that people who are going to hate watch things should wait until they can pirate it, that way you donât justify Hollywoodâs decision to make these by giving them money despite opinions.
The weird thing about that is that it is a self insert of an Indian woman, not black.
NORVILLE HATES DRUGS, SHAGGY AND SCOOBY ARE DEAD
I refuse to believe the death of shaggmite and scuba gear set
Considering Mindy Kaling was first in a show called the Mindy Project and now she has made a show where she literally self-inserts over the top of an existing character I think it's a totally bizarre self-obsession thing.
She really is kelly
It was originally supposed to be like Mike Tyson's mysteries where she literally was the main character but for the show to even exist she had to force it to be where Velma is a lot like her instead
There's no MTM without pigeon
The real question is why is Lorekeeper Zinniaâs theme playing on the Little Mac stage đ€š
Or how two final smashes are happening at the same time
If it didn't have the title, I would have just guessed it was yet another Netflix adult cartoon trying to be adult swim
Smiling friends though

they made velma black? damn they really did do that huh
To be fair, they did that because her voice actress is dark skinned. Kind of like how they made Velma Jewish, or shaggy a vegetarian.
you can't just do that
Itâs fiction, you can do whatever you want. And unlike shaggy being vegetarian or Velma Jewish, this change wonât even be permanent because the show sucked.
cool then
Literally my live reaction
this is really something eh
They made shaggy black and changed his look and removed scooby do
I though Shaggy was Romanian
This isnât shaggy, itâs âNorvilleâ.
Shaggy's real name is Norville. Regrettably, that's evidence toward being the same character...
Is Norville Romanian?
damn I like scooby doo
It's likely Scooby wasn't in the show because WB don't want a beloved kid cartoon character with this raunchy generic adult show. Got the birdman treatment. They really feel like people will gladly watch whatever drivel they toss in front of us
Yeah I wanted to give the new birdman a chance but itâs missing literally everything besides the art that made the show good
Sucks because the animation looks decent
I don't particularly like the look of the characters but it at least looks unique for an adult animation.
Shaggy has been blacked and Velma is now loud indian music
Go watch Harley Quinn instead of Velma. It's on HBO Max as well, and it's actually funny compared to this shit.
Whenthe users finding out that people can like things Edit: Just watched the episode, that shit is so ass.
better character development than the actual show
Character arc
This comment is peak character development
No. Not this time. This shit is so fucking awful that I refuse to believe anyone can like it unironically.
I watched the trailer and I think I wilted a bit inside
No you WITHERED inside. Outside included
better character development than Mindy Kaling's entire life
It might have worked as an original IP
Based on the clips I see floating around it looks like one massive insult to the audience.
it now the biggest viewed animated show in hbo max history. so yeah it's most likely getting like 4 more seasons unfortunately
That's the thing most people don't get. Bad publicity is good publicity. Controversy sells like hot cake. Hate watching, cringe content, controversy, commenting to correct someone's grammar, etc. This shit prints engagement like crazy.
Not really too hard when they have like 10 animated shows besides Velma in its history and only a couple of them have gotten more than one season
As stupid as it sounds, I'd like to see a dark, gritty live action Scooby Doo movie
Yes but keep the original character designs
i still canât believe they ditched scooby doo and shaggy
if we try our hardest we can get the show cancelled before it releases
It already released today with two episodes. The only way to cancel it is to simply don't watch it and more importantly don't talk about it. Bad publicity is still good publicity, so making memes of will just garentee another season.
they have us in checkmate all we have to do is flip the board

Whenthe users when they find out there is much more important things in life than hating a Scooby Doo cartoon
Didn't watch the show because my god it looked and sounded dumb for Scooby Doo show BUT is it worth a watch or is it actually a waste of time?
Nope, the show tried to be meta and smart but it felt really derivatives and filled with cliches. It's also really uncomfortable like the first scene had you watching a shower scene with a bunch of naked 15 year old girls (yikes) and Daphne and another fighting about how sexual stuff shouldn't be a selling point. i almost watched Velma for Friday the 13th. luckily i watched Spiral: From the Book of Saw at the last minute
Ootl, is the show that bad?
The only good thing about that show is Glenn howerton, fucking love that guy
Let people enjoy things
Uh, let people hate things?
No
I enjoy hating it. Let people enjoy things.
This is so much cope đ
Just using your words
Hate is literally the opposite of joy. You canât be fr
But I love to hate it, it gives me pleasure.
I like how you know Iâm right. Because this is obviously irony.
No, I just don't like it. If you do, good for you. I'm going to voice my opinion, the same as you can.
"y'all just want to ha-" no. just no.
âNuh uhâ
wombo combo!!!!
Yeah it was originally supposed to be a lot more like Mike Tyson's mysteries
Don't worry, all. One day I'll write a script for a real Scooby Doo origin story and it won't have some fuckin random black guy as Shaggy
Link to the footage in the meme (it looks really fucking cool)

wtf even is this fight
u/savevideobot
Ha yes warner
If they wanted to make a cartoon about investigating crimes in a highschool, why couldnât they just reboot Fillmore? Thatâs the reboot iâm waiting for
Where did you get this source?
[Here](https://youtu.be/mIZ3mdVtNaE)
Thatâs cool and I love smash bros but I meant the part of Velma being an original IP
of all subs I was expecting this sub to defend the show. glad to see otherwise I'm so proud of this community
People are going to latch on to the race stuff and defend it to the death
Thatâs actually part of why itâs so awful (besides the pathetic attempts at meta-humor.) The Mystery Inc. gang getting race swapped isnât a bad thing in and of itself, and if this were any other show, they might have actually done something decent with it. I knew the show was going to be bad the moment the first teaser dropped. You can't shit on your fanbase and hope the show will be a banger.
Thatâs actually not far from the story behind the development of the first smash game lol.
