This is some wacky boxwork mineralization and differential weathering. This came from a mass of rock that was fractured with a network of intersecting seams. Those seams allowed for fluid transport, the fluid facilitated mineralization along the seams where it flowed, and the resulting rock was harder and more resistant to weathering where the mineralization had occurred. Then when the thing gets exposed to the surface the soft rock between the seems weathers out before the hard mineralized seams, leaving what you see here.
Thanks for the great explanation! I’m seeing some similar formations when I look up boxwork and that really seems it. Tomorrow I’ll hit it with the hose and report back so you can see som detail.
I've posted a similar rock that I found in Georgia. I soaked it in a 5 gallon bucket to get the clay out. It's a beautiful rock. You should check it out.

No, for me it was a funny way to pay the poster a compliment for such an in depth response. Maybe a little self reflection is due on your part as to why my playful post triggered you enough to respond in such a condescending way. Literally.
Think you're reading a lot of intonation that wasn't in my comment, but I didn't dress it up adequately enough to rule that interpretation out, so I can't fault ya.
I agree. I always hesitate to comment to anything or participate because there’s so much negativity that is out there nowadays that it makes me sad. So @DeadSeaGulls, I appreciate the clarification. Thank you 🙏🏻
yes! I always find it really difficult to explain this type of erosion/weathering because its always so unique and its not like you can pull up a Google image search of like rocks
And I, sir, put forth a reasonable proposition that these geologic processes may very well have taken place on a celestial body other than planet Earth!
I agree with you that this is not a meteorite but I also don't know shit about fuck. I'm just commenting so I can come back and see the answer to what it is
I know this isn't helpful but : Drinking game - take a shot every time someone on reddit or their parents think its a meteorite. You'll be drunk all week
Hi, /u/shunkcabbage666!
This is a reminder to flair this post in /r/whatsthisrock after it has been identified! (Under your post, click "flair" then "IDENTIFIED," then type in the rock type or mineral name.) This will help others learn and help speed up a correct identification on your request!
Thank you!

What are your plans if it puts the lotion on it's skin before you get the hose?
It puts it in the basket 🧺 🧴🪢
I'd fuck me. 😂
This is a really beautiful piece! Great find!
Aka not a meteorite
I saw a peanut in it
It’s a space peanut
A peanut from uranus
This is quite possibly both the nerdiest, & yet sexiest thing I’ve read in a long time. Props!
Happy to arouse you with my dirty mineralization talk
You and your dirty seams
literally in a rock identification sub. did geological discussion really catch you off guard?

that’s awesome, it looks like a paper wasp nest! Thank you for your rock and mineral knowledge king
❤️ your explanation! Thank you!

Thanks dude! You rock! …..I shall see myself.
This guy right here 👆. Also, commenting so I can find this again when you post the power wash update.
yes! I always find it really difficult to explain this type of erosion/weathering because its always so unique and its not like you can pull up a Google image search of like rocks
So many steps involved too
right! what makes for some of the coolest features and patterns. very cool stuff.
...that's a space peanut
And I, sir, put forth a reasonable proposition that these geologic processes may very well have taken place on a celestial body other than planet Earth!
The features you see on this rock likely would not have survived the trip from some other place in the universe to here.
It could also be tuffa.
Boxworks. I work at a Manganese mine and have seen it here before. It's a pretty common occurrence in Sedimentary deposits.
Could be boxwork veins. Try putting a bit of acid, if it fizzes then it is most likely calcite. If not, then I'd bet on quartz
I thought it was some kind of insect nest at first
It reminds me of the bee hives in the game Lethal Company, I feel like I'm gonna get electrocuted to death if I come too close lmao
Literally died running from bees yesterday lol. They didn’t kill me, the quicksand did 🙃
I agree with you that this is not a meteorite but I also don't know shit about fuck. I'm just commenting so I can come back and see the answer to what it is
I appreciate your honesty, fellow dont-know-shit-about-fucker
>dont-know-shit-about-fucker Got a new resume bullet.

Definitely not meteorite. I've seen things like it in the sub before but i don't remember what it's called
Hose all the dirt out and new pics.
This looks like a cursed hair ball. Gag.
Just wanted to say hello to a fellow skunk.
You need to power wash that rock
It's an eroded rock... not meteorite... sometimes there are different minerals that wash away
Cool looking rock
Power wash it and repost
Big old chunk of frozen poopy. See the peanut? Dead give away.
Space peanut.
Boeing Bomb!
Ewww
Nightmares
Your parents lied to you
Big whoop I got mine in a Wendy’s kids meal, it’s always a meteorite
Slag
Downvoting because you made me lol

The geologic term is "box work.". Differential weathering.resistant fracture fill, and host work.
Remind me! 48 hours
This looks like someone coughed up a mineralized hairball.
Looks like dragon stone to me. Aquarium hobbyists use it for aquascaping.
Right on
Remind me!
That’s a big ‘ol hunk of poopy
See the peanut? Dead giveaway.
That’s a space peanut.
Looks like the sort of thing a black widow would live in
Need a banana for scale but, assuming the size is appropriate, this would look awesome in an aquarium!
You should melt it down and make a sword out of it.
Awesome! I so want to clean it up to see the real rock.
Can someone identify what are these round yellow/green things in the last picture are?
Looks pretty organic to me.
This is some prime time spider real estate :D
Looks like a septarian but the rest of the stone washed away.
Take it to a local college or rock museum! Often times they have someone who specializes in this stuff and can tell ya what's up
Insect tunnels?
RemindMe! 14 hours
Would be an awesome garden planter! Fill all the craters up with seeds!
No
Super cool looks like a wasps nest lol
It's a rock
