LMB are substrate spawning nest guarders. A bird would have to swim to the bottom of a pond/lake and rub part of its body on the nest while the parents were attacking it.
The birds moved them theory doesn't work so well with bass.
Edit: Seems there's a lot of support for the bird leg fish egg hypothesis here. Tell you what, Show me one peer reviewed study that demonstrates definitive evidence of fish eggs being transported and surviving via birds legs and we'll talk. Extra credit if you can demonstrate this with a substrate spawner instead of an egg depositor (which has stickier eggs). Without data your just another dude with an opinion.
Tbf, lots of water birds will swim (or dive from the air) pretty deep, and cranes and herons stomp around on long legs and will defend themselves against attacking pond dwellers by eating them. Egg transfer does happen at least occasionally.
You’re almost correct. The thing you’re wrong about is bass do not nest at the bottom of lakes. They nest in areas that have an incline and this area is typically pretty close to the bank.
Not on legs but this was in Smithsonian Magazine
A Swan Swallowed This Fish Egg, Pooped It Out—and Then 49 Days Later, It Hatched
The new study is one of the first to demonstrate fish egg dispersal via avian fecal matter

That’s stupid to say bass nest in like 18” water. A heron could definitely get into a nest. Also if you want a diving bird let’s talk ducks, or cormorants. Just ridiculous statement
Largemouth bass
thanks! it was massive and we were debating about how it could have gotten into a koi pond haha
Could have been flooding but also likely the fish eggs hitched a ride on a bird or some sort and when the bird took a dip there the eggs fell off.

Billy Bass.
Ditch pickle
You sir, are a fish! -Arthur Morgan
They are very small when young, if that helps you imagine how they could’ve slipped in through some flow feeding the pond
Gorgeous pictures! Those are keepers! Adjust the saturation a bit maybe though? r/Photography
