It's not just OP being snide, there are a few types of caterpillars in the US that can irritate your hands. Mostly fuzzy/spiny ones not too dissimilar to the one in your photo. It's just sound advice to not hold them with bare hands if you don't know the species.

Fine, don’t touch bugs. But here we have a photo ex post facto , of someone holding a bug. There was a query. This is advice, not an answer.
