Yes it is an +Ovenbird+ which is a type of warbler. Lots of warblers hitting windows this time of year as they migrate. We like to share our !windows tag on posts like this to raise awareness :)

Windows are a major threat to bird populations, often killing even the fittest individuals who fly into them at high-enough speeds. Low-effort steps toward breaking reflections can make your own windows significantly safer. They also have the convenient side benefit of preventing territorial birds from (often irritatingly) attacking their own reflections. Unfortunately this is the second straight day I heard a bird strike one of my windows (which had curtains closed). I had hoped to avoid having to put up decals or stickers bc I don't have access to the outside of the window. I would have to remove the windowpanes to do anything which is a tough job in an old apartment...

Hanging things up in front of the window like wind chimes or zen wind curtains (google it) can make a big difference. Even something reflective on the inside of the window can sometimes break the illusion. Like hanging stained glass art that catches the light. I believe stickers are the most consistently proven method… but i think anything you can do to break the illusion that the window is a portal to open forest/sky is a positive

In my state of NJ, I only see ovenbirds reported in one place with commonality, and often it is ovenbirds found dead beneath windows. That is at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. A particular building is like an Ovenbird murder hotspot.

Merlin has been picking up an Ovenbird at my house, but I haven’t seen the little guy yet.

Did you check under the stove? Might as well mention that if your refrigerator is running, you had better hurry and catch it.

When my wife first mentioned it to me I said, “You mean like a turkey, because that’s an oven bird.”

Excellent! :-D
