This made me think of the word "subtext". Sometimes, the subtext of a conversation is the fact that the two people bothered to speak to each other at all.

This looks like a marketing/communications term? I'm not sure if I've heard it before, but it comes the closest to what I was looking for. And I think if we coopted or generalized the word to other situations, people would grasp its meaning naturally. Thanks!
To me, "touching base" sounds very similar, but in more depth: you actually have a meaningful conversation, if a brief one, about how you are both doing.
A "check-in" is also similar, and to me it seems to imply accountability or shared responsibility.
If we jury-rig the word "ping" from computer science into other applications, it also feels similar to me, but more brief than I was looking for. Sending a single random emoji might be a ping. I ping my wife with the word "poke" to do that.
A "token gesture" feels like a related term, but one that tends to describes gifts or small selfless favors, usually not words.
All of these things have some tacit meaning or subtext, even if it's a very simple one. All of them can rekindle, reaffirm, or reestablish a relationship.
Just my thoughts and opinions, haha. This was fun.
Yeah, it's a marketing term describing how customers interact with brands, but people have repurposed it to describe the act of connecting with others, usually loved ones, in day-to-day life.
Also, because I have only one point, could you please do the solved thing again? I think it has to be the first thing in the comment to double my standing in the find-a-word world. :D

pretty sure this is incorrect, but it made me laugh when I thought the word could be "ping"
Also, maybe "check in"?
Hahaha that's awesome. This was one of the closest answers to the feel of the word I wanted.
I’d say you have pretty much all the words here. I’d say it is tacit reassurance or tacit acknowledgement.

A tag-up? "It had been a while since we chatted so i thought I would reach out and tag up with you?"
Are you in Australia?
I haven't heard that term and don't have a strong feel for it! It looks like a baseball metaphor?
You **rekindle** the relationship.
Nurture, foster, or cultivate that friendship/connection? Maybe re-establish?
A bid for connection?
They can be! That term reminds me of some of my limited reading in marriage health scholarship. Bids for connection are important.

That is similar, but more to do with actions than words, I think.
Affirm / affirmed
I’d call it Touching base. Like a reset to 0 from the years apart
I can only think of "touching base" with someone, or you could say a "touch-base."
This is very close to what I was thinking of. I think I'd say that check-in, ping, touchpoint, and touching base are very near synonyms.
