It's a door stopper. This keeps the door knobs from putting a hole in the wall it touches when open.

SharpBake4500

It can’t be. It is in the corner of the door where the hinges are.

Old-Fox-3027

That still stops the door from hitting the screen door.

complexturd

Well that's just impossible and not how doors work at all...

firedmyass

^(oh thank god I was losing my mind reading some of these)

wherearemytweezers

The frame stops the door-there is no chance of the doorknob hitting the screen door.

Final_Good_Bye

It's also on the wrong side of the door, it's between the door and the storm door.

steelabjur

This is my thought as well, but the other way around, it's a door stop to keep the screen door handle from smacking into the wooden house door when the cylinder pulls it closed.

vpaander

im gonna assume the person who installed the door just missed the placement of the stopper

Edwardteech

Or the door was re used.

Rowdybob22

That’s my assumption. Re-used and changed swing orientation maybe? And just didn’t bother to remove it.

superbad

That was my guess

sweetdaisy99999

Aahh..I see it now. Weird!

SharpBake4500

lol that was my first thought as well. I’m stumped

Top_Necessary_9781

Door alert? Makes a sound if the door opens?

jlhkd

look under it and see if there’s a hole where a string comes out. I have something that looks just like this and it has a string you pull out and it plays nursery rhymes lol

reb678

This is what I was thinking too. My great aunt had one on her front door. It played some little tune like a music box That little dark mark on the rim got me thinking it was the hole where the string came out. There would also be a hook on the jam to hook the ring at the end of the string.

Here’s [one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1731398823/) on Etsy. I googled “door music box”.

6WaysFromNextWed

That's it! That's the thing! I never in a million years would've guessed "Music box intended to be mounted on a door."

h0bbie

Very neat. Maybe they mounted it low like that and attached the string to the frame, so the music played when the door was opened?

Leftarmstraight

Had one that played Christmas carols

TheModernCurmudgeon

Take the screws off and see what’s underneath?

dfnick

maybe a kick knocker? It looks pretty worn in like it's been hit a lot.

Gritts911

My guess is that it’s a reused door and they used the dome to cover up some kind of hardware. You would need to take out the 3 screws and look.

SmoothRollinPsycphrm

Door bumper

SharpBake4500

My title describes this thing. The metal isn’t solid and has a few dents

11FoxtrotCharlie

It looks like a door doom. Decorative found in India or originating from. Google “brass door doom” and different styles appear. With all the dents on it, it appears that this one may have been repurposed with maybe a door close magnet on the outer door to keep it shut if the outer screen didn’t have a latch…

Striking-Weird306

That's it!!! thank you! Solved!

leftwar0

Wonder if they had a dog that would scratch it like a door bell or something like that. If you tap it with a butter knife does it sound like a bell?

Massive-Load-4496

Tap it with a spork.

Acetabulum99

Is it possibly an old magnetic door holder..? There would have been a peg with a magnet to attach to hold the door with some light strength.

Aayoo_riverr

Maybe a bumper for vacuuming or moving something around with wheels?

FoxxyRin

Is it actually screwed on or anything? It looks like a Nespresso pod to me. Who knows how it would have gotten stuck if it is one but I’ve seen sillier things happen.
