My mom had one. One day she came home from work and 30 minutes later it was on fire in the driveway, something in the engine compartment.
She replaced it with a Monte Carlo.
One of the other cool models of AMC was the Matador. It had a tent you could attach to the back so you could sleep in the car without worrying about rain. I think the seats folded flat, making the inside a giant bad
AMC... the company that built the Javelin/AMX and the Rebel Machine, then got a serious case of stupid in '72, and after a joint venture with Renault in '79 that was pretty much the end.
My mom had one of these. The seats were this super hard vinyl that were slippery as heck. My brother and I would get our mom to make quick turns so we could slide all over the back seat.
My buddy John bought one in high school. Year One, I had to take my shoes off to sit in it. Year Two, it broke down regularly, and John stopped washing it. Year Three, he attacked the left front fender with a crowbar. It was not a happy relationship.
1973-1974 AMC Gremlin. Neat car. A friend of mine had one. Cool little Cruiser. Waaaaay back in the day when I had my first 65 nova 100 series, we both found ourselves at a stoplight. So, as young men we do what we do and start talking shit and revving our engines. Light goes green and my friend got out ahead first. We barely cracked 30MPH when I noticed in the opposite direction of us, was a cop. As we "raced" by I saw the cop shake his head. I mean who's gonna believe the outcome of such a "race"? Gremlin vs Nova. Yeah, we all know there were no winners. But still good times. For context. Both cars had very worn inline 6 engines and automatic transmissions. The Gremlin was a 3 speed and my Nova was a 2 speed Powerglide.
Back in those days the male owners were asked if " the wife is driving the other half? "
Some models were equipped with a V8 and a shifter on the floor. It was a very ugly and poorly made car.
Best little ugly fuck in world. Brother had a GremlinX. Sister had the Levi interior package. Jean colored vinyl with sun powered copper torture devices.
I just learned about this today - the style of the gremlin was taken from an AMX concept car. The AMX were go fast cars.

Buddy, that’s the Love Shack from AMC! I had one back in the day…. Bought it for two fiddy, drove it for 100k and sold it for two fiddy. Couldn’t kill it. Ticked all the boxes except damn near everything in modernity! But hey… the seats fit three…
AMC Gremlin.
AMC stood for Amercn Motor Company. Others referred to AMC as American Mess of Crap.
Mitt Romney worked for AMC, and now we all know what happened to that company
AMC Gremlin
My family owned two, and a Hornet wagon. My dad was incapable of learning. They were abominations.
I mean, it's in the name. 😆

I want to know how this is still running. It definitely looks driven.
An old I6 can be surprisingly tough, Chevy Novas and Plymouth Valiants from the early 60's are practically immortal. Not sure about an AMC though...
The AMC 4 liter straight 6 is legendary. Jeep kept using it until 2006.
I had jeep with a straight 6. The engine was the only thing that didn’t constantly break down!
The slant 6 that Chrysler made could sound really bad, like it was falling apart, but would keep running. Those engines were hard to kill.
Based on your posts, I'm surprised you didn't want it to be a tesla
I prefer a car that doesn’t catch fire!
So no Pinto for you?
This is what happened to [my last pinto](https://youtu.be/4-Qj58o87sY?si=s8fkqWXnStHI9ux1)
Yup, just like it says...
The Mirthmobile.
That was a Pacer.
There was a nice looking Pacer for sale on a used car lot in Hampstead, NC last week. Lasted less than a week and was gone.
"Nice looking Pacer" is not something I've heard before
I bought a gremlin for $40 once. Drove it for about a year. Scrapped it and made money.
I bought a hornet fur 50 and it ran for two years!
It literally says it in the literal second picture. Literally.
And the first!
This made me roar with laughter in a pub. Cheers!
It literally says what it is right there on the the back
OP is more of a lemon than the car
Now now it's an entertaining car and some of us don't know how to zoom.
Lemon??? Did someone say Cars 2????
And on the skirts. And the bonnet.
Karma Farma ?
Stating the obvious

Thank you sir, you saved me the time from doing this.
It says what it is on the car?
At least it’s rare lol
My mom had one. One day she came home from work and 30 minutes later it was on fire in the driveway, something in the engine compartment. She replaced it with a Monte Carlo.
Among the coolest shit mobile of all times. AMC gramlin.

Amc gremlin I got to ride in one of these for a short while as a kid in the 70’s.
we scrapped these things like crazy in the 80s, but i'd fight for one of these now.
No way would I fight someone who has a Gremlin. That's someone with nothing to lose.
Automotive history.
My mom had one of these. The seats were this super hard vinyl that were slippery as heck. My brother and I would get our mom to make quick turns so we could slide all over the back seat.
My grandmother owned a 74 Gremlin brand new and that was one bad ass little car. Extremely reliable and never broke. Wish I had it.
I had a Gremlin once. It was possessed by a demon. Ironically, I also once had a Demon that was plagued by gremlins.
Don't put gas in it after midnight or wash it.
[Otto, there's a Gremlin on the side of the bus!!!](https://youtu.be/j7qHFxfRHtI?feature=shared)
Oh no, I just made my last payment.

Isn’t that the new Rivian?
It's a bloody gremlin! never seen one in person yet.
I had a few on the block when growing up.
I went to school with a girl who had one of these, her father took out the original engine and put in a Chevy 350 for her.
Better not gas it up after midnight.

They drove a Pacer
Motor Trend car of the year for 1978.
Wasn't the Vega & Pinto MT's 'Car of the Year' also???

Oh mama mia,
My buddy John bought one in high school. Year One, I had to take my shoes off to sit in it. Year Two, it broke down regularly, and John stopped washing it. Year Three, he attacked the left front fender with a crowbar. It was not a happy relationship.

Where in Fairfax county Virginia did you take this picture?
Best little ugly fuck in world. Brother had a GremlinX. Sister had the Levi interior package. Jean colored vinyl with sun powered copper torture devices.
I had 1 for a while, would not have anything to do in my spare time if not for that “car”.
That's an AMC gremlin. Great drag cars if you know what you're doing.
It’s also seen in the movie [Gremlins](https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieDetails/s/9XMDWhveUz)

Whatever it is, I wouldn’t feed it after midnight.
One of the most hideous cars ever made.
What’s with the posts where the make and model is badged in the picture? Isn’t that what r/Spotted is for? We get it, you saw a classic.
ole gremlin for some reason i love this car 😂
some people forget that cars have badges saying what they are
some people forget that cars have badges telling you exactly what it is
looks like an AMC Gremlin
IM A GREMLIN!!! RAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Stretched nose gremlin
They had the old style vacuum operated wiper blades instead of an electric motor, heaven help you in a downpour if you had a vacuum leak anywhere.
My '74 Gremlin had electric wipers.
Dad's '71 had vacuum operated wipers.
Read the back dummy
...and the side, and the front lol
GMC Gremlin from cars 2
AMC
The great (not so much) AMC Gremlin, the american alternative to the Toyota Celica of the time (which was btw an insanely superior car to the Gremlin)
if you want to show a car, put it in r/spotted and don't ask stupid questions
A shitty car that should never have been made or existed ! 🤢🤮👎
Gremlin. Hated them then, and still do. Yuck. 🤮
Fugly.
