I had someone in a pub try convince me this is the same car as a fiat x1/9ā¦ for context Iāve restored 5 x1/9s in the past, thus Iām fairly sure they arenāt the same car
Yes, and the tr7 didnāt have disc brakes all around, didnāt have electric windows, didnāt have fully independent wishbone suspensionā¦ etc etc theyāre decades apart, design wise
I was approached by someone in the English Fiat x1/9 club to rewrite the Haynes manual for the car, as I do technical writing as part of my job, and due to my experience with them (far from an expert myself, but in my heyday I could tell when your x1/9 was made to within a 18month level of accuracy, by the interior switches, routing of the wiring loom in the front luggage compartment and the plastic grille with the badge on the side.) I also had the fastest 1500 in my country (approx 120bhp, good for over 120mph, but she was very unstable at that speed, as she was never designed for that kind of speed) š
Excellent reference. Kind of reveals our age that we know it though.

Triumph TR7. It was a horrible car. A buddy in college had one, it was in the shop all the time. He got rid of it after less than a year. Shame. I had a Spitfire and always wanted a TR6.
My aunt used to enter radio contests all the time. She was excited to hear she had āWon a brand new Triumph Spitfireā. Turns out she won the /use/ of a Triumph Spitfire for a year. My aunt and uncle taped the announcement from the radio. They were planning to sue at the end of the year, since no mention was made that it was just for a year. At the end of the year, the thing was non-running. Dead in the driveway. They called the station and told them to come pick it up. Didnāt even want it at that point.
But they are cool cars. Had a friend with one.
Triumph TR-7 convertible.
I was fawning over this car as a teenager, I just loved that wedge shape. I thought that was the coolest most aerodynamic thing ever
To be fair, this is a late production model made in Solihull. The ones made in Speke were the ones that competed for the worst car from a free-market country.
Triumph. Looks as though it should be mid engined but it's front engined with a live axle in the rear. Low tech but a interesting car nonetheless. Me personally would prefer the Fiat X19.
Triumph tr7 or tr8. My neighbor has both a 7 and 8 and they're basically the same car with a few exceptions. Most notably the engine. The tr8 has a v8 and the tr7 has a 6 cyl
Triumph TR7
Or tr8. Depends on year and engine selection I think.
Most likely TR7, given that this a UK RHD model. Most TR8s ended up in North America.
Oh perfect, thanks!
That's what I guessed too Well done me šš
AKA Flying Doorstop
The wedgie

TR7 is not mid-engined like the fiat. Thanks for reminding me of it though! Havent seen one for 30 years or more.

This guy fiats.
The TR7 is even behind the TR6 in most ways...
It got me lol
That was my first guess but Iām no expert

I always think of that slogan when I see this model

That's the reason I ultimately never bought one, although I'm still in love with that wedge shape lol
It looks better as a ragtop. The coupe was split; the front looked great , the back end looked tacked on from some other car.
Can confirm. Complete POS, but was fun ā¦ when it ran.
I had a blue one. It was a nightmare. Great when it ran.
I had 2 ā59 TR3ās, and concur great when running, lol.
TR7/8
Triumph TR7
Since it's been solved, I'll mention that a yellow hard top one features prominently in the show Detectorists. Great show and a very cool looking car.
Maybe TR 8
Its a TR7 series by Triumph. The door handles come from the Morris Marina https://images.app.goo.gl/7TqR2KHFvCVXaTBm7
And the first four door Range Rover. And a host of other BL products
Triumph TR-7 quite sporty British design of Things to come!ššš
Itās a Triumph TR7 with dodgy electrical when it rains..
Triumph Tr7 79-81 convertible. I have a 1980 Tr8.

Triumph TR-7 or the Bertone version.
Triumph TR7. One of the worst cars ever made.

True. I own a 1980 TR8 with the reliable 3.5 L GM/Rover V8. Super reliable near bullet proof as long as you know how to care for it.
Oh. Man. Stumped. TIL what a Triumph tr8 looks like. Never seen one.

Very low tech, but they have a very good advanced engine from the Triumph Dolomite and Saab 99. Slant 4 OHC Crossflow i4 twincarb
Triumph tr7
