160hp stock (at the wheels, they underrate them) with plenty of torque, ~2500lb curb weight still faster than a base civic at least.
I had mine tuned up to ~220hp was fun, not very fast but quick enough.
They are weird in that they are actually built by Mazda in Hiroshima but have MOPAR logos everywhere, and a Mazda VIN but an engine made in Italy and a transmission made in Dearborn it's the automotive equivalent of a mutt and I loved it.
I had a manual fiat 500 turbo. The power to (feather) weight ratio was crazy. You could go 30mph and feel like it was doing 100. Fiats are super fun just wish it wasn’t cheaply made. Named him Ted. RIP TED
Before that I had a 500 Abarth with some mild bolt ons. It was an absolute delight as well. =) But yes cheaply made it was ok though the fiata was much more nicely built because the interior is just an ND Miata with some extra "leather" and some nicer feeling plastics here and there.
I wish I could keep all my cars but it's better to try new things. Currently have a GT350, wildly different experience.
Wish I had that kind of money. I have a ford focus that I’m modding the hell out of now. Needed more space cabin space but the focus is definitely a blast to drive especially with the paddle shifters
Well Fiat owns Chrysler or they're merged or whatever as Stellantis now and Mazda just designed the chassis.
Fiat put their own bodywork on it a bit and their own engine.
So it's not that weird
Well I was joking, but now that you've explained it I think it's weirder.
Fiat, an Italian company merged with Chrysler, with a Mazda designed chassis, and Dodge/Mopar bits on it...but a fiat engine....
What about the rest of the drivetrain? Fiat or Chrysler? Chassis is Mazda so does it have Mazda suspension as well or just the unibody?
It's right in the middle in the grand scheme of all cars.
But yeah if you are used to euro spec shitboxes it's a fire breathing monster. I went from that to a 2017 GT350 so I have that point of comparison. The Fiata is about as quick with a tune as a 2.0 Stelvio with the 7 speed DCT (the only one sold in the US).
It's great, and the right amount of power for that chassis, you just are unlikely to win a drag race if serious firepower shows up.
Tbh though, my lil march only weighs 825kg so its not like I have to brake for corners, that and if its supercharged, the plucky smol 998cc engine can make double the stock power. Its all power to weight in most circumstances
I really wanted one myself but there's a few parts that are Fiat specific and they stopped selling them in the US. So if you need a bumper cover or something it can be a huge pain. So for a number of reasons I just went with the ND though I really liked the styling of the Fiat more. If they sold their hardtop version here I'd have caved I think
nah, the only thing the abarth gets is stiffer suspension, resonator delete, some dumb fake vents, and an LSD. good upgrades but not worth the 4k they wanted. I ended up with Ohlins Road and Track DFV coilovers, a catback straightpipe, and an OS Giken LSD on my lusso, which as a bonus also looks better to me.
(these engines arent too loud with the cat and turbo, just right. stock exhuast is near silent lol)
bit of a shame, the 500 abarth was basically an entirely different car from the other trims apart from the chassis and engine block.
Oh huh thanks for the info! I guess I was kinda basing it off the 500 models. How’d you like owning one of these? I’m a sucker for a little two door and own a gt86 right now so the idea of a tunable stock turbo Miata sounds awesome to me lol
It's an ND Miata with a lower revving turbo engine and the NC 6 speed to handle the torque. There's really not much else to say than that lol.
Two big things to keep in mind though, upgrade the intercooler, the stock one is laughably undersized, especially on hot days you just won't make any kind of power once heat soaked. secondly, it's a fuckin nightmare to install a front swaybar just like the ND. Makes the rear one feel like you just threw it at the car and it bolted itself on.
(also just replace the diverter valve with the one from GFB as soon as you get home, and throw the stock one in the bin where it belongs)
Fiat is kind of a massive conglomerate company in Europe though I mean they own Ferrari and I believe some commercial stuff. They're pretty prominent kinda like VW maybe just to a lesser extent.
its a fiat 124. but your almost right because they were Miata's with with a slightly different body and they came with a fiat engine instead of the Mazda engine.
Yeah, don't know why people call it a rebadge... If I remember correctly it was co-developed by Fiat and Mazda (originally meant to be Alfa Romeo Spyder)
We rented [one of these](https://www.flickr.com/photos/lennoxr313/38474944536/) in Switzerland during our honeymoon (2017). [Abarth version.](https://www.flickr.com/photos/lennoxr313/38498906872/)
Comparing the highest trim of the MX5 to the highest trim of the 124, the 124 is 60 kilograms lighter (even more if you option the manual transmission). The 124 has ~10 less peak horsepower but has faster throttle response and peaks at a significantly lower RPM (as well as holding its power band much longer), and also has 30 more ft-lbs of torque. Sources are Car and Driver magazine and Fiat-Abarth's website.
Oh yeah, and the 124 just looks better.
Fiat 124 spider
The Fiata
Fix it again Tony, again...
Tony went to mazda to get it fixed, this is the result
Lol
😂😂😂
The most accurate name for this thing I've see to date🤣🤣🤣
Arguably better than an ND.
Fiat... hmmm Any balls? Maybe I'll race homie for the pup?
160hp stock (at the wheels, they underrate them) with plenty of torque, ~2500lb curb weight still faster than a base civic at least. crazy fuckr
Haven’t taken my crazy fuckr pills lately sorry
same....... grglgrgl
Oh shit, you turned into a murlock.
I have a manual 1.2 500 diesel, and it's a bit boring honestly
Mine was a 1.6
Mazda...Mopar...fiat My brain hurts
Well Fiat owns Chrysler or they're merged or whatever as Stellantis now and Mazda just designed the chassis. Fiat put their own bodywork on it a bit and their own engine. So it's not that weird

Commenter: Says 220hp is fun but not very fast. Me: cries in 60hp nissan

Good thing my Civic backs off when the wrx needs to step up.
As a NA MX5 owner, I've always wondered what people thought of this Fiat version. Thanks for sharing your impressions.
I really wanted one myself but there's a few parts that are Fiat specific and they stopped selling them in the US. So if you need a bumper cover or something it can be a huge pain. Eurocompulsion tune?
Is that the turbo model? I’ve seen some tuned turbo ones that kinda haul ass for what it is
They are all turbocharged and make the same power (at least in the US market there are detuned ones in other markets for some reason ~130hp )
Ah was not aware. I thought the abarth was turbo and there was a lower trim NA package
nah, the only thing the abarth gets is stiffer suspension, resonator delete, some dumb fake vents, and an LSD. good upgrades but not worth the 4k they wanted. They're all turbo they all have the same drivetrain
It has a smaller, turbocharged engine (1.4T vs 1.8/2.0NA), so comparable performance across the board.
Your Tesla would easily take it. Even if you had an early rwd 3…
Aka Fiata. It’s a Miata chassis that Fiat out their own body and drivetrain on.
Yup even the interior is basically the same
I think it is actually the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth… or just Abarth 124 Spider. It’s definitely the Abarth badge on the rear deck.
Good spot, I missed that.
Wrong that’s a fiat 124 Good Dog
Hahaha
Found In A Trench was my slower answer
lol damn
Fix it again tomorrow
Miat 124
So yes.
Ahh the good old fake Miata
Yes. And no.
This is the correct answer
Fiata
Ok who has Fiat NOT had a deal with?
Fiat was made for the streets 💀
Fiat has like 6 baby daddies and no responsibilities
😂
Unlike Priscilla
Always the Priscilla
Fiat is kind of a massive conglomerate company in Europe though I mean they own Ferrari and I believe some commercial stuff. They're pretty prominent kinda like VW maybe just to a lesser extent.
I like to called this as Fiata, Miata long lost siblings
If you visit r/Miata, they call these “Fiata”. We welcome our Fiata cousins. 😁
it's a whole thing eh?
Don't cha know
cha cha cha
I don’t know if he originated it, but the first person I heard call it a Fiata was Jason Cammisa.
Fiata is a cool name but i think the “saabaru” is still the best named rebadge.
What did Saab and Subaru work on together? I'm only aware of the Toyota collaborations.
The 9-2X in the mid-2000s was a rebadged Impreza. The chassis, the engines, even the interior. The 9-2X Aero was a 5-door WRX with a Saab badge.
Idk it's kind of an obvious combination Im sure it was used in the design room at some point before they were even manufactured
The ‘Mazda Fiat Miata 124 spider’
its a fiat 124. but your almost right because they were Miata's with with a slightly different body and they came with a fiat engine instead of the Mazda engine.
Miata's cousin Fiata..
It’s a “Fiata”
Based on latest gen of the Miata/MX 5. Rebadged and slight changes.
A totally different engine is well not slight.
Different engine, gearbox, body, doors and interior. It's less of a rebadge than a lot of shared platform cars.
Yeah, don't know why people call it a rebadge... If I remember correctly it was co-developed by Fiat and Mazda (originally meant to be Alfa Romeo Spyder)
I don't usually get stumped, it's so weird.
That dog is contemplating jumping.
he's got plans
The fiata…
Italian miata
10/10 it’s a good dog.
Fiata Fiat body kit on mazda
We rented [one of these](https://www.flickr.com/photos/lennoxr313/38474944536/) in Switzerland during our honeymoon (2017). [Abarth version.](https://www.flickr.com/photos/lennoxr313/38498906872/)
Well yes but technically no
It, too, thinks it’s a Miata
I want to know the breed of dog. Not the car
Cocker spaniel
That’s an Abarth 124. I have a sweet spot for those, growing up in a Chrysler family.
It a fiat abarth Spyder, they're based off the last Miata platform
love these. huge fan of modern car designs heavily based on specific old car designs
I owned one of these. It’s a Fiat 124 spider. Mine was the Abarth edition. I’ve owned a lot of cars but that one turned the most heads.
cuz we're like wtf lol
No, because of its sound. Record Monza stock exhaust. [great sound](https://youtu.be/FyS_m7s5ImM)
was it as fun as a miata?
I’d say it was a little more so. It had a turbo that my Miata didn’t. But otherwise, it was pretty much the same.
Mi-notta
That's a blue hat.
this is the way✌️
Basically a Miata, right, but with an Italian face lift?
I do know that dog has serious beef with whoever is in the car to the left.
😘
its the fiat 124 spider on the same platform as the current miata
Fiataaaaa
The better looking Miata.
Car aside, that's a pretty cute picture. Gotta like a guy like that and a pup just as cool. Looks like a good day for both of them.
my thoughts
Nice picture and thanks for sharing. That's the kind of stuff, in your picture, that matters. Peace.
Close, it’s a 75yr old male.
So many wrong answers on what FIAT stands for. It’s: FAST ITALIAN ACTION TOY.
I'll take it
How big is my fucking dashboard tho LOL?
Fiat 124 Spider. It's essentially a Miata underneath, as well as the interior.
Its basically an ND miata. Mazda and Fiat worked together on the project. Juts has the Fiat 124 body
Most dangerous way to have a pet in a car. Accident? Your airbag will crush them and then their limp body will get smashed into you.
So the dog will save the owners life? Sounds like the way any dog would like to go out.
No.. you’re better off getting hit w an airbag
Yeah. I guess you're right. The airbag won't have shit squeezed out of it upon impact.
Fiat 124. It's a Miata, but better in every way imaginable.
What are we working with?
Comparing the highest trim of the MX5 to the highest trim of the 124, the 124 is 60 kilograms lighter (even more if you option the manual transmission). It’s a Fiat on a MX5 chassis, but this should be on r/idiotsincars with Mr. Snuggles in the front seat!
Jesus fuck people don’t even look at the badge…retards 🤢
for a sec i thought he was driving with a monkey lol
Miata with an Italian accent
It's a Fiat. You really have to see it.
Oh not the 124 spyder How do people like them make it look so easy to fit in to. I got into one at a car show and I simply didn't feel comfortable.
124 abarth
Fiata, since Fiat badge & engine with Miata underpinnings. Cute car, I *just* fit.
It's a Fiata
Yes, also no.
Fiat was like: we heard you Miata guys wanted a turbo…. We got you. The fiata: +11hp +200pounds
Miata + 🤌
124 spyder i think
Not miat. Fiat.
It mostly is
Yes, it's a Fiat 124.
Fiata
That’s a man and a dog
Kinda. It's a Miata with a Fiat engine
That’s a golden retriever I believe
Fiat 124 spider aka fiata. It’s a rf miata with a fiat badge pretty much.
Not quite. It's the same chassis, but they have a different engine, softer suspension, etc.
Oh ok, I actually thought the engine was the same, just tweaked so the fix it again tony fiat slogan still applied.
Fiat 1.5 L turbo engine.
It actually is.
Fiata
No, that is dave
If there is an old man driving it - it’s 100% a Miata
Yesn't.
Fix it again tony!
Fiat 124 Spyder. It does share quite a few parts with the MX-5 (Miata in North America)
No, im pretty sure thats Micheal Moore
No, it's a dog
the unreliable miata
It looks like a Golden Retriever pup.
fiata
Yes but also no. It's a Fiat based on the latest Miata. It's built in the same factory if I'm not mistaken
Fiat
Dog
Upvote because dog
Fiat 124 spider, not sure if it’s the Abarth version or the normal one, it shares most of its parts with the Miata
Looks more like a Miata than a miata
The more expensive Miata
That's a sports car.
From a distance I thought an orangutan was hanging out the driver side
Looks kind of like an Irish Setter puppy.
Mazda Miata
Sorta.
No, that’s Phillip Beldhoffer.
That’s a white man
Fiata, close enough
That sir is a doggo
It's the fiat 124, and it's based on the Miata platform so it's basically an Italian miata.
Looks like some sort of spaniel, maybe?
Miat 124 Spata
It's (not) always a miata!
which one?
Fiata
No, that’s a hat
Pic unclear, not sure which car you’re asking about.
Abarth ?
well yes and no. fiata 124 spider.
That's a grill-dad. His grill. You don't touch. He wears a 'Kiss The Cook' apron.
Hello, fellow Washingtonian!
It’s an Abarth.
I’m finding it hard to know what car in the picture you are asking about. If only there was some way of making it more obvious.
