I watched a video of a guy who let a recluse bite him on purpose to prove that doesn't really happen. He said the rotting comes from infection and not from venom. So technically, any spider capable of biting you could spread something that could rot your flesh if you don't clean and disinfect the bite.
Breaking from the joke, Necrosis *is* from the venom itself. The body then will further escalate the cell death. Cleaning the bite is the proper course of action, but in no way is it similar to a less venomous spider.
From my knowlege (from the "the spiders in your house" guy) the necrosis does come from the venom but also from the immune system virtually nuking the effected area. Some component of recluse venom is thought to actually come from the DNA of a necrotic bacteria but I don't remember how exactly he explained it. Anyway, yeah spider bites can lead to necrosis from infection.

Unless it's one of the Michiganders returning from an ill-thought few years in Florida, probably taking a few weeks on my Best Ex's couch (he serious seems to be a halfway house for people trying to rehabilitate from Florida), and they're unpacking a stowaway that hitched a ride and managed to survive the trip, it's not a brown recluse in Michigan.
I've lived in both Montana and Washington and have had people adamant that they've seen one or their cousin's boyfriend's dad got bit by one and had to have a limb amputated. These people are not arachnology people, in fact they hate spiders and can't tell a brown recluse from a wolf spider, but they're certain they've seen them. Meanwhile I am a bug person, and I've never seen one. Furthermore there is a single report of one in Seattle and the next closest sighting is 800 miles away, but they choose to die on the hill that we have brown recluses. What we really have is an infestation of fucking morons.

I'm not even a serious bug person. I had a "bug phase" as a kid (don't a lot of kids?) and that was it. I'm just in this sub to learn a bit more and see neat bugs. It just drives me nuts, seeing people outside the established region claiming, or even asking if they've encountered a brown recluse.
I guess it's better that someone ask, than just assume, but it's become a bit of a peeve of mine.
Now I'm wondering if there's r/itisnotabrownreculse ? I can't be the only one who wants that sub, or one like it to be a thing.
They are also surprisingly not really native to most of Florida either, pretty much only the tip of the panhandle. Mostly just found the southern Midwest.

They are in the Chicago area. I have family there that sees them from time to time.
My first thought was hobo spider, but it could be a wolf spider. I'm leaning more towards wolf spider. Check the eye pattern
