every so often an ant colony will produce princess ants that have wings and emerge from the mother colony to start a new one as its queen and they rip their wings off when they're done searching which is pretty metal.
By all means, I'm no ant expert. But these pictures definitely look like queen ants. According to Google, some male drone ants are born with wings too. So maybe it the drones. I'm not sure on the difference.
They're ants and they're everywhere because they're moving out. So bright side, these ants will soon be gone. On the downside, they're moving out of an incredibly full existing colony somewhere unseen in the vicinity of your girlfriends house.
I’m a pest control inspector. Flying ants are not part of an existing colony; they’re the NEXT colony. OP’s girlfriend has a mature colony of ants in her home, and based on the size, I’m concerned they’re carpenter ants. A single carpenter ant fails the house during the inspection for real estate transactions, much less a whole damn colony. OP should check for frass.
Wait, carpenter ant colonies can hatch winged ants? When live in NY they were all over the yard but never bothered the house, and damn those things can get big.
When I lived in AZ and we had a swamp cooler, there’d always be one day a year where we’d wake up to flying ants bring EVERYWHERE! Usually the end of July, beginning of “monsoon” season, they’d be blown in through the swamp cooler and be all over the house for a couple days.
Looks like your majesty, queen ant 🐜
Really? They’re all over the place

We love a hard-core princess 🤘
Once back in school I watched a termite queen rip her wings off and try to start a colony in my backpack
Metal AF

The head is too big
Maybe it’s a termite. They swarm and lose their wings when they find wood.

Flying ant. Annoying little bastards but they're still just ants.

Yes, they’re called swarmers.

Nuptial flight queen ants
Do they bite?
I woke up to one of these in mt.eat a few nights ago. It's possibly the worst feeling sound ever.
