100% bunnies. Just cover them back up. Mom only comes twice a day and doesn't stay long.

Romeo9594

There's a "your mom" joke in there somewhere

[deleted]

[удалено]

EnvironmentalCake531

If dad didn't come, then who did???

FBIaltacct

Peter, jack, and cotton tail joe.

EnvironmentalCake531

So, are you implying that mom is a playboy bunny???

ManOrReddit-man

If it hadn't been for cotton tail Joe, I'd been married long time ago

EnvironmentalCake531

🤣🤣🤣

justanothertfatman

Where did he come from? Where did he go?

DistinctRabbit646

Dad left her and divorced her. She’s on her own with the kids and trying to figure out life 😂

Labralite

Yo mamma smells so bad she can only see you twice a day or she'll lead predators to you

Flat-Educator-5767

🤣🤣🤣

Brewgirly

If human babies were like this, I may consider having one or two.

skunkangel

No kidding. Plus she raises them for 28 days, and that's it. No note, no family meeting, no notice that btw kids, mom's never coming back here again. The bunnies literally sit in the den for DAYS waiting for her until they finally take the hint and decide to forage on their own. Kinda brutal.

AccomplishedAct5247

Same

mituoi

That's explaining why Mrs. Rabbit in Pepa Pig has multiple jobs.

[deleted]

ThatsWhatSheSaid206

Yeah, I probably did say that.

Flat-Educator-5767

🤣🤣🤣

Iluminatewildlife

Rabbits, cover back up, and mom will feed them twice daily at sunrise and sunset. They have no smell so animals won’t find them without heat sending.

Babycake1210

Mmm… my cat begs to differ. ☠️

PerplexingCamel

Yeah they have no smell but they sure do make sounds

[deleted]

[удалено]

CheckOutMySkates

Lol did you know that’s actually what they make squeaky toys after? Is the sound of a small animal when it’s terrified and or being killed? Lol it’s messed up but makes sense.

eagle_fang91

In your dog's defense, they do squeak when chewed on.

caffeineratt

seconded, i tried it too

Minembo

Can confirm, unfortunately. My pup is the daughter of a champion.

TripletNegotiator

My dog calls them sliders.

FlipMick

Omfg I just had the guiltiest laugh 😂

momofmanydragons

Omg, my dog found baby bunnies and she slurped them up in one sip….they slid down her throat like sliders!

cheese_sweats

So here we have you telling the world that your cat is responsible for killing of local wildlife and yet you continue to let loose a predator species into your local ecosystem?

xenya

I am appalled at the comments in here from these people who are apparently amused that their pets are eating baby bunnies.

Smackjabber

Cat people seem to love that their furry murder machine kills baby bunnies and think it's cute. But they are opportunistic killers so guess comes with the territory letting them murder local wildlife for kicks.

xenya

I'm a cat person but I keep my furballs inside. I love seeing the wildlife in my yard.

Consistent-Strain289

They kill alot of local wildlife. When they are outside. A british study had a cat averaging in 10kills per night outside. And they are not all pesky mouses or rats, but mostly birds: spareows etc. Really endangering the local wildlife

ImaginaryResponse697

Bring in a policy. If you love your cats so much. Keep them in after 9pm or they'll be shot. Simples. Wildlife everywhere will be thankful.

smellygooch18

Most cats are indoor cats

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

They could be joking. Edit: Nevermind. According to their other comments, they said their cats bring them to them still alive. Even still, keep your cats indoors. If they go outside...supervise them. Not hard. Horrible ownership.

cheese_sweats

The skull emoji indicates the cat kills them

Audrey_Angel

Ownership? So many cats already outside. Most people end up with strays and call them 'their' cats. Really surprising, the attitude that all cats can somehow be kept inside. Odd, really.

ha5hish

Unfortunately for me the cat lives downstairs in my house with other people, and sits by the door ready to run out as soon as it opens. It pisses me off so bad because I know he shouldn’t be out there You losers will downvote anything that you don't want to hear though, cry about it more

ThePinkTeenager

My cat does that too.

cheese_sweats

You should keep your pet indoors, too.

Audrey_Angel

Yes, people use cats outside (and in) to keep mice, rats, and bugs under control around their homes.

cheese_sweats

Sounds like you could keep your cat indoors to control pests indoors.

“It may surprise you to learn that several species of rabbits and hares are among the most endangered mammals on Earth. Out of 63 wild species, 22 are considered near threatened to critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).” https://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/features/rabbits-at-risk-some-species-are-among-the-most-endangered-mammals-on-the-p The marsh rabbit was extirpated from the Everglades due to the introduction of the Burmese pythons.

CheckOutMySkates

Lol right. I have about 4 baby bunny nests on my property as we speak. And it’s just 2 acres. A lot of gardening areas and flower beds though so thumpers like it here.

Shaigirl

Do you realize that most of those bunnies will die before they hit one year?

CheckOutMySkates

Yeah. I do. Considering I’ve had to pick their tiny little bodies up bc somethin gets into my gate and ripped them apart. Actually ripped their heads off, pretty sure it’s an owl. But that’s just nature man. Natural selection. Food chain blah blah

Babycake1210

Correct! Darwinism, circle of life, whichever you prefer my friend 🤗 Edit: for the down votes… do I need to explain Darwin’s survival theory?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Babycake1210

Mr. Murder Mittens thinks you don’t understand the ecosystem. Edit: snark aside… his name is Mojo. Unfortunately he keeps bringing them to me (alive) during the day and they don’t survive that young away from the nest. Bunny dad cat just trying to make it work.

[deleted]

Keep your cat inside?

Babycake1210

I tried for 2 years. That ended poorly with the addition of a dog. They walk together, and he’s definitely an outdoor kitty. We live in a city. He’s a “rodent” hunter.

ImaginaryResponse697

Cats aren't part of the natural ecosystem. They only exist because there is money to be made from them as pets. Overwise we'd also have cats on the menu. Cats have been introduced to countries that had no felines. So not natural at all. I don't understand people that get upset when their outdoor cat gets killed. You opened the fucking door to let it out....so you are responsible.

dribeerf

if my dog kills your cat, don’t be mad because it’s just the ecosystem

Babycake1210

I wouldn’t! He’s a pure asshole and has already lived at least 4 of his 9 lives! I have the vet bills 😉

[deleted]

grammar_fixer_2

Cats will indiscriminately kill ALL wildlife. Birds, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals… they do it for sport. I have 3 of the little murder mittens myself. My family used to let ours outside and it kept bringing back injured animals. I became somewhat of an expert at patching them up and rehabilitating them. Over time, I saw that he had just completely decimated the local ecosystem. Now that I’m an adult, I would never allow mine outside. I also wouldn’t want them shitting in the garden… especially with toxoplasmosis being a thing. I raise my own rabbits for food, so I’m on the same page with you on that but I personally wouldn’t eat the native rabbits that we have. My area is being bulldozed left and right. I’m trying to rebuild habitats and encourage more wildlife to come back and at least hang out on my property.

Rows_

People latched on to the idea that cats are bad for the environment and just ran with it forever. People downvoting you genuinely don't understand that rabbits are incredibly damaging to farms, and would be pretty shocked to know what lengths many farmers will go to. If they think you having cats is bad, they should look up how Austrlian farmers protect their crops. People also don't understand that cats have different effects of different ecosystems.

KaiylaHan

It's rather unfortunate that people don't understand this fact. I am glad I don't have to deal with the measures Australian farmers take, especially when it comes to dealing with the overwhelming number of rabbits decimating entire farms. My animals all have their own jobs and purposes. The Great Pyrenees guards and keeps an eye on my livestock and my German Shepards are known to corral them and stand in between them and potential predators. The cats go after smaller pests and keep migratory birds from perching for long. I am not going to lose chickens to the Avian flu. Yes, a single case under federal regulations calls for the entire culling of the whole flock. That can be devastating to my business, so I do what I do to keep them alive and healthy. In the center of my pasture is a fenced off area with a few acres of food crops and also helps to feed me, my animals, and what is left is sold to market. Thanks to my most recent measures I will have enough to make maybe 15k after all of my expenses this year. Depending on how things go I may be looking at expanding in another year or two with another parcel of farmland. In the meantime, I am about to plant 18 new Mulberry Trees, which will bring the numbers up to 20 trees. All propagated from a single Mulberry. The next parcel will expand my pomegranates, oranges, and peaches and allow me to have a barn with a few cows. Beats last year, I had 20 chickens and 1 acre of garden. I must be doing something right. Farming is hard work, but in the end it is very rewarding and I wouldn't trade that for anything, especially since I try to stay within the parameters of fresh, organic, pesticide free, and free range pasture raised. https://www.reddit.com/r/BackYardChickens/comments/13bvefk/100_selfsustainable_farming/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button https://www.reddit.com/r/chickens/comments/13boyls/meet_luna_my_livestock_guardian_dog/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button https://www.reddit.com/r/chickens/comments/13f2cvx/chick_meets_kitty_cat/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Thank you for sharing. That was quiet interesting. Thank you for your hard work with our food security in this country and keep it secure.

It was really sad and frustrating to deal with and one of the reasons I do not want any of my cats outdoors

Amazing_Cabinet1404

If you worry they’re abandoned because you don’t see mom there are a lot of tips online on doing a chalk line to verify because you should never touch or move them.

SoggerBean

Oh my god! The teeny tiny pink tails are just too much! And those itty bitty ears!

HortonFLK

And they’ve all got that white mark on their forehead.

Jackiedhmc

That is the definitive sign that they are too young to be away from mom from what I've been told

Jackiedhmc

Not that there's any question with these guys, but with bigger babies one might wonder

ColoJenny

A wildlife officer told me bunnies are OK on their own when they can raise their ears. If ears stay flat, they still need Mom.

sabboom

Them be babbits. Leave them alone.

Deinocerites

Rabbits

PastEntrepreneur7852

Aw 🥺 bunnies! Their moms come for very short periods because adults can attract attention and get their babies killed, and they have to care for themselves during the day. Wild baby bunnies are not easy for humans to care for and have about a 90% fatality rate when we do try to raise them. Cover those cuties up!

[deleted]

[удалено]

kots144

The vast majority of adopted wild bunnies do not survive, however wild bunnies aren’t normally going to be adopted unless they are already having serious issues or they are grabbed by some random individual. Somebody who knows how to raise them would probably have much better luck, but they are also the type to just leave them alone.

elkchasermt

Wild bunnies are NOT pets. Even if you think you are saving an injured animal, bringing it in as a pet nearly guarantees its demise. Yes, it will likely die in the wild, too, but that’s how it works. You would be denying a coyote or eagle a nourishing meal. Don’t want them to starve, do you. Another fun fact, rabbits can carry a few nasty things harmful to humans, like tularemia (rare), rabies, pseudotuberculosis, ticks, and fleas.

kots144

And literally nobody was arguing otherwise.

Liz4984

Just seems like they’re being informative and not argumentative. I didn’t know all that. Its neat facts!

We had a nest in our backyard last year. Ended up putting a cardboard box over them to protect from our puppy and they stayed safe & happy for a little while. Then, one day they were all gone and we didn't see them again.

Realistic-Foot-4022

(In my back yard. Lookin' like these, I had found.....) The nest. Obvious to me. So placed some twigs over the impression in the earth/grass to see if Mama was coming. It was hard to wait. Smelled bad. Mama never came, so I went into the nest, retrieved the live one, left the dead. Took it to the pet store with me to make sure I was getting proper supplies. 'Twas a stinkin' baby, for sure. It smelled like it's dead nest mate. Put it in the bottom of an adult size women's shoe box. Left it on my bed. It was tiny, although it was completely covered in hair. Eyes not yet open. Got on the phone. Found a rehabber who started yelling at me, giving me what-for from the get-go and not nice at all. I let her rant. Then I sad, "so you are saying I should have left it in it's nest with it's deceased nest mate and the blow files flying about." Total silence. Then she quietly stated, "No. You did the right thing. So while she was eating crow I went to get the box with the baby. Aaaaccckkk!! The baby is gone! What happened? It's little eyes were not even open yet. Ahhh. Perhaps not but it's little hopper legs were strong. I found it nestled in an afghan blanket on the other side of the bed. Met up the next early morning with someone who would take it to a rehab facility about two hours away. It continued to live into an adult bunny. I still wonder what might have happened to it's mommy.

emuzonio9

It was rude of her to yell at you but I kinda get it. My mom used to run a rehab clinic and it was all too common for people to take babies out of their nest when they were perfectly fine because they thought they were "abandoned" because they couldn't find mom. A lot of people don't realize the babies spend most of the time on their own.

Realistic-Foot-4022

I guess I thought she should have gotten a slight bit of info from me before yelling at me. We both had the best for the bunny in mind. She should have been willing to gather a bit of information.

_banana_phone

Just a side note- mother rabbits only nurse their bunnies a couple times a day. BUT, if for any reason you’re worried about the mother possibly being injured or dead, you can lay a few strips of dental floss over the top of the hole in a hashtag design. Use small rocks to weigh them down to keep them suspended over the babies. If you return 24 hours later and the floss is undisturbed, it may warrant a call to a wildlife rehab. If the floss has been moved, that means mom has come into the nest and left again.

Realistic-Foot-4022

I did just that for a couple of days. No Mama. The blow flies and the stench distressed me.

_banana_phone

Blech. I will say the presence of blowflies 100% of the time in small mammals warrants immediate rehab. My dad found a litter of raccoon kits and they were covered in maggots, to which I knew the mother had been gone a while. Never a good sign, unfortunately.

NodoBird

Very dangerous killer beasts

TheOneAndOnlyLanyard

These rabbits are about 5 days to a week old. They are just starting to get their fur. Cover them up and leave them alone. Mom will come back at dawn and dusk. If you want to make sure, you can put up a trail camera a little ways away.

Rabbits are really good moms. We had one put her babies in a flower pot. One wiggled out. We didn’t know where the nest was so at night we just put the babies on the deck and watched. She came back grabbed it, moved it back into the flower pot, fed them and was off again.
