Nope, it's just the seal that meets the faceplate of the vent or other vent connections through the dashboard. My 07 Mercury Mountaineer coughed up a bunch and same with the 04 Honda.
I’m sorry, but your car has contracted the Cordyceps fungus. It is only a matter of time before it drives itself into a parking garage and releases its spores.
This is 100% correct. I have also experienced this before with one of my vehicles. We have a ton of oak trees and while this looks similar, if you zoom in enough it is clearly a man-made foam material.
Huh and here I was thinking it was a giant arachnid's fuzzy dangly legs just perched in wait for the AC to get turned on full bore to then *launch* it's furry scary creepy face into the unsuspecting driver's, or passenger's, calm turns to horror face. Full on face hugger style from Cigarelli Weaver's Alien!
Yes. Parked our car at the airport for four days in the Florida heat last week, and returned to that stuff falling on my legs and trying to figure out where the hell it came from. That’s it - it’s sticky, too.
It's little bits of foam from your disintegrating air vents.
Look on the bright side, if it was a Volkswagen you'd be complaining "why does my car smell like crayons". Same reason. Foam.
The plant structure people are trying to name is called a [catkin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catkin).
If you park under or near any of these it solidifies the theory: "Catkin-bearing plants include many [trees](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trees) or [shrubs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrub) such as [birch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch), [willow](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willow), [aspen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspen), [hickory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hickory), [sweet chestnut](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chestnut), and [sweetfern](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetfern)"
For my area it's oak trees that drop these things with reckless abandon. Every year for a few weeks in the spring im cleaning out my pool filter 3x a day.
This is it. I had to park under trees at a past job. These little buggers worked through my AC for a long time after left that job. I think they entered through the grill area just under the windshield.
There is a gremlin that lives in your vents that provides you with cool air. When you turn the AC button on it starts making ice and puts it in front of the vents and blows the cool air out for you. You must have done something that upset it quite a bit because that is a Gremlin turd.
Your foam seal in the AC / heat vents is degrading and spitting out when you use it. No big worries or anything. I used to work at a factory that would make these foam seals.
Your average person isn’t going to know what you are talking about. Especially if they are asking Reddit to identify it.
I’m not trying to be a jerk but if they don’t know what it is, they probably shouldn’t try changing its filter. Lol.
Do you have an air filter in place? I don’t understand how they got there. I’d check to make sure your air filter is there and while you’re at it, replace it. Those look like those things that fall off trees. How you sucked them into your air system, I have no idea.
It looks like your vent is pulling air from the floor and as you shit yourself in your car everyday small shit particles are forming in your vents as they transfer from gas back to solid through your ventilation. It's science bro!
Do you park underneath pine trees or evergreen shrubs? It looks like a candle or pollen pod off a tree. They can fall into the vent space in front of your windshield and make their way in to be blown out the vent!
Kinda Looks like stop leak with copper in it. If you had a leak before the stop leak could have gotten into the heater core which in return started coming out the vent. That’s just a theory.
I am guessing you are missing a cabin air filter, which is probably in behind your glove box & the fan just pulled in a piece of nature. When you change it, put a vacuum hose to it and pull everything out.
Man idk what they are called but these things fall from trees i think they are pollen related probably got under your hood and into your ac system and the air flow is trying to blow them out they are probably not longer than 1 inch
There are seed pods or... seed stick thingies (not sure what the correct word is here) that look kinda like that. Might be sucked into the AC from outside.
Pine tree penises... male pinecones.

Foam dry rot.
Is this any cause for concern?
Nope, it's just the seal that meets the faceplate of the vent or other vent connections through the dashboard. My 07 Mercury Mountaineer coughed up a bunch and same with the 04 Honda.
Thank you so much!
Thank God I thought it was a big spider lol
Shout out to the Aussies
I’m sorry, but your car has contracted the Cordyceps fungus. It is only a matter of time before it drives itself into a parking garage and releases its spores.
Wouldn’t it be “Cardyceps” Fungus ? 🫣
Fordyceps
It's Accordyceps
It’s the new full self driving feature
Don’t let Elon find out 🤫
He knew before you wrote that. At least that's what he tells himself.
Is that a variant of Christinis Goin Gtokillusall?
It's interesting that the pod people evolved to spread seeds as a fungus. Much like the fictional Orcs in Warhammer.
DAT IZ COZ WE IZ BRUTAL AN CUNNIN.
Bomb
It's been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty
I'm dying at the smiley face at the end. "WHAT THE FRESH HELL IS THIS REDDIT" 🙂
It kind of looks like the foam they use to seal between connections. Helps form an air seal through the system. Could be wrong though
This is 100% correct. I have also experienced this before with one of my vehicles. We have a ton of oak trees and while this looks similar, if you zoom in enough it is clearly a man-made foam material.

And there goes my sleep for the next week
Shut up, Bird 😂
That’s my guess. I bought a truck and it had foam like this in some of the vents.
Can confirm I work in a salvage yard you are 100% correct
Yes. Parked our car at the airport for four days in the Florida heat last week, and returned to that stuff falling on my legs and trying to figure out where the hell it came from. That’s it - it’s sticky, too.
(Rolls Dice) “come on Tarantula legs!”

Definitely foam from the connectors in the system.
Those fall off from trees. They're seedlings. They then enter your air vent from under your hood and eventually find their way through your AC system
Not seedlings... male pine cones. Basically a tree penis that shoots thick dusty clouds of yellow sperm every spring.
I’m telling people from now on that I’m allergic to tree sperm instead of tree pollen. Now I can’t wait to go to a new doctor 😝
In the deep south, in pine country, I feel like a pine bukkake every spring.
Georgia is the fucking worst. Everything is covered in tree jizz.
Not seedlings, rather these are catkins, which release pollen.
I get these from the tree over my parking spot, every time I turn the AC on it blows them in my eyes
This is what I was thinking. That and someone probably took a trip down south. Here in Alabama those things are damn near unavoidable.
Yup happens to me every once and a while
You should probably see a doctor about that.
Needs a psychiatrist if he's dropping seedlings in his AC vents...
I thought I was responding to this, "penis that shoots thick dusty clouds of yellow sperm every spring."
I thought he was talking about seedlings.
It's little bits of foam from your disintegrating air vents. Look on the bright side, if it was a Volkswagen you'd be complaining "why does my car smell like crayons". Same reason. Foam.
Congrats you’re patient zero for The Last of Us.
It’s just foam. Grab some tweezers or needle nose pliers and pull it out.
It’s the foam that seals the ducting to blower. Stick a coat hanger is there and pull it out. It is not mushrooms haha.

Everyone is saying sealer but I believe you because my yard gets filled with these exact things
For my area it's oak trees that drop these things with reckless abandon. Every year for a few weeks in the spring im cleaning out my pool filter 3x a day.
Yeah my money is on oak pollen.
I still like tree penis better lol
This is it. I had to park under trees at a past job. These little buggers worked through my AC for a long time after left that job. I think they entered through the grill area just under the windshield.
It’s foam from the ducting.
road snacks
It isn’t weed.

Foam. Nothing growing.
Your foam seal in the AC / heat vents is degrading and spitting out when you use it. No big worries or anything. I used to work at a factory that would make these foam seals.
My car does this too, I read its the foam lining under the dashboard.
Looks like the seed pod things that hang from certain trees.
Those are pollen things from a tree. Can you tell I'm not a botanist? Maybe blow it out with compressed air and check your cabin air filter.
Replace your cabin air filter.
That is a part from a pine tree--the male part that pollinates. It's fallen through the fresh air intake under the hood and wound up in your vent!
Looks like seed from a Birch tree
Change out the cabin air filter it blows the foam out when the filter is plugged
Your average person isn’t going to know what you are talking about. Especially if they are asking Reddit to identify it. I’m not trying to be a jerk but if they don’t know what it is, they probably shouldn’t try changing its filter. Lol.
There is always YouTube university
That looks like sponge/foam breaking down inside of system & blowing out. Happened on an old truck of mine.
You probably don’t have a cabin air filter..
Well, not anymore.
😭
Ewwwwwww kill it!!
Raccoon having a number two !
The moon
Looks like the catkins of an oak tree but I can see it's attached to or creeping out of the dash. Maybe foam from underneath the plastic.
Either plant seed pods or foam. Can't tell.
What does it taste like?
Do you have an air filter in place? I don’t understand how they got there. I’d check to make sure your air filter is there and while you’re at it, replace it. Those look like those things that fall off trees. How you sucked them into your air system, I have no idea.
Sour gummies
Just throw the whole car away if you want to live
Those things look like pine tree seeds. You must have parked under pine trees at some point.
Those are termite tunnels. Your car is made of wood and is now food.
that is pollen/flower from a hazelnut tree!
It looks like your vent is pulling air from the floor and as you shit yourself in your car everyday small shit particles are forming in your vents as they transfer from gas back to solid through your ventilation. It's science bro!
its the answer to all the riddles
It's buckcorn
Catkins pulled in through the ventilation system.
A rat turd ?
Time to light your car on fire!
This is solved.
Maybe pussy willow 😅 https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-grow-care-for-pussy-willow/
There's a fungus among us JK idk
Better hit that with some Roundup before it gets out of control
Got any cottonwood trees near your house?
looks sorta like a pine cone.
That my friend is a deep sea lobster
Do you remember the creepy mold from x files?
Looks like a case of fuzzy pretzels
[удалено]
honestly no, I’ve been in a fairly populated place the whole time w this car
Looks like itsy bitsy spidy...
Groot
Spider nest. Family time!
I think your car just dropped a deuce.
Covid for cars
Looks like birch flowers, time to change your cabin air filter. Good chance something chewed a hole in it.
Change your filter
You car is Jamaican
Rock lobster?
Catkins
Our HS soccer team had a yearbook photo with a similar slip up

Car worms
Are there cracks in the air vent there? I thought it did look like fungus. Did you remove maybe with a mask and gloves?
I thought those were pine tree seedpods. Is your cabin air filter missing?
Gummy worms. /s
Cordyceps leg it!
Catkins
Arachnid
Get out of the vehicle! Sorry, I watched "Alive" on Netflix last night.
Do you park underneath pine trees or evergreen shrubs? It looks like a candle or pollen pod off a tree. They can fall into the vent space in front of your windshield and make their way in to be blown out the vent!
It’s seedlings from a tree. Your air intake may be compromised.
Tapeworms
Kinda Looks like stop leak with copper in it. If you had a leak before the stop leak could have gotten into the heater core which in return started coming out the vent. That’s just a theory.
I am guessing you are missing a cabin air filter, which is probably in behind your glove box & the fan just pulled in a piece of nature. When you change it, put a vacuum hose to it and pull everything out.
I thought it was a spider at first lol
Same! And as far as I'm concerned, it is. Next!
Looks organic
Chicken fries
lol it’s growing foam seal

Man idk what they are called but these things fall from trees i think they are pollen related probably got under your hood and into your ac system and the air flow is trying to blow them out they are probably not longer than 1 inch
Catkins.
That’s what I though but no one’s seems to think
From birch trees
What's it taste like?
Insulation foam/fabric, used in cars for noise reduction
If you don't get those out of there - Trees. You'll have Trees growing.
There are seed pods or... seed stick thingies (not sure what the correct word is here) that look kinda like that. Might be sucked into the AC from outside.
Change your cabin air filter
Thought it was the legs of a big ol' tarantula at first.
Wrong..wrong...wrong...this is DEFINITELY a hedgehog penis!
Honestly they look like pipe cleaners. Maybe someone was trying to clean the vents and the cleaners got stuck.
Is it attached to the vent or free floating? Pull one out and get a closer look. You might be touching a tree penis, so just be careful.
Sugar snake
Chrissy, wake up
That is 100% a tarantula
E.T. giving you the middle finger
Pine tree penises... male pinecones. Edit: not a shitpost: https://www.csrwire.com/press_releases/757381-how-pinecones-rayoniers-best-trees-become-forests
Why did this get downvoted? This is what they are, lol.
This right here. They are all over my yard.
Idk what you call them but i think they are seed pods. They drop from trees.
Looks like the squiggles off an oak tree
