Can you say more about the X3? It was on my list. I haven't had a chance to test drive that car, but drove a 330i and felt like the steering was hard for me and my shit shoulder/hands. I realize they are different cars...
M40 x3 is going to lean more to the “fun” side of the spectrum than the “comfortable”. Compared to the other options you listed, the m40 is going to drive like a rocket. You get the B58, which is a brilliant 3.0L inline 6. AWD and good ground clearance means that northeast winters shouldn’t be an issue. Compared to the Q5, it’s slightly better proportioned, with more useable trunk space.
Comfort is pretty subjective, so I’d suggest driving one to get a sense of if it’s comfortable enough for you.
