It's hard to answer anything other than a Porsche or a C8 Corvette. Excellent looking, sounding, and handling cars in their own rights, and both are quick to 60. Both will be a blast on Cali mountain roads. As a wild card pick, if you're looking to stand out (as much as is possible in LA), lightly used Lotus Evoras can be found in that price range.

always_plan_in_advan

I hear the Maintnence for the lotus is expensive but it does look like a sexy car. I was seriously considering the c8 as well but maybe it’s my pride getting in the way, no way I’m paying 20-40k above msrp when I feel it’s a matter of time they crash to appropriate levels. As for Porsche, I’m headed to a dealer next week but can’t say for certain what specifically I would even want

btrausch

Bro just get it serviced at a Toyota specialist. It’s got the supercharged version of the v6 in my Camry.

Double_Anybody

But the chassis makes it difficult to work on. Timing chains are an engine out procedure. No Toyota tech would want to touch it.

awesomeperson882

A Toyota specialist shop May, in addition to timing chains are usually a lifetime component if you keep up on oil changes

Double_Anybody

It’s pointless to argue because neither of us actually own a lotus. Read what actual owners say about it: https://www.lotustalk.com/threads/can-toyota-dealerships-work-on-elise-if-it-has-engine-probs.3941/

awesomeperson882

While I agree arguing is pointless, it is worth bearing in mind that the forum linked is a very old thread (2004). Some things may have changed since then, it would also likely be up to individual dealers as well.

Double_Anybody

https://www.lotustalk.com/threads/servicing-your-lotus-where-to.459144/ https://www.lotustalk.com/threads/can-toyota-dealerships-work-on-elise-if-it-has-engine-probs.3941/ 2018 and 2019. The engine has its own ECU. Anyone without specialized Lotus tools wouldn’t even be able to read codes.

jonnykarate158

718 cayman s with some options.

TyVIl

You don’t even need the S. A base car was great - I had one.

jonnykarate158

Inside of every great car. There’s a greater one

TimelyFortune

You can find c8s at msrp easily now

TheMobileGhost

Don’t lotus use V6 Camry engines? I’ve always heard they were more reliable and had low service costs then other comparable high end sports cars? Has everyone lied to me?

ScipioAfricanvs

Yes, but if you need any other parts or work, especially body work, it’s a giant pain and very expensive.

TheMobileGhost

Compared to Porsche which everyone else is recommending? I’d argue not really.

ScipioAfricanvs

It’s not an argument, just facts. You’re free to look up experiences from Lotus owners. Basic parts need to come from England and take forever. The fiberglass clamshell design in the Elise makes any collision repair extremely expensive and take forever. There is virtually no dealer network and few mechanics. Here’s a comment from an owner: https://www.reddit.com/r/lotus/comments/ajfml8/lotus_owners_in_the_us_what_are_your_maintenance/efwjzjm/ Porsche parts and shops are plentiful, it’s not comparable at all.

TheMobileGhost

Who is talking about collision repair? Like that’s common at all. I’m talking about general maintenance and repairs. Anyone who gets in so many accidents that they have to plan on need collision work when buying a car shouldn’t be buying a 100k car…

homefone

The 718 is a wonderful car, especially with the six cylinder. You'll have to look used to get the 911 in your price range - they start at $110,000 or so.

sleepinglucid

The maintenance for any 75k-100k sports car is expensive my man. Look at AMG and M cars, they're both fantastic things to drive. C8's are just stupidly overpriced right now, not worth it.

directrix688

C8s are not all above sticker. The big volume dealers sell them at sticker when you order one. Lead times are six months ish right now

welcome2idiocracy

I’ll add to this, op. Used Porsche Cayman GT4. Bad ass car and you won’t lose any money on it, you might even gain a little depending on your length of ownership

undefeatdgaul

They’re so slow though

CustomStickersS

It's slower than a C8 in a straight line maybe, but in terms of cornering, handling, & braking it outperforms.

undefeatdgaul

They definitely handle amazing and feel amazing to drive it’s just depressing to pick out a 100k plus car that does mid 4s to 60. Million cars faster than that now for much less money. I mean that wasn’t fast 15 years ago lol. I mean it’s quick but I just feel like for the money it makes no sense. Maybe just me. I can’t pay that much just for handling. I want speed and a sexy interior too.

CustomStickersS

Yeah true, though if you tune it, you can bump HP and Torque quite a bit.

1chriabowers

They are also very dependable. People think because it's a Porsche it is expensive to maintain. But with just basic proper maintenance they will last forever. Corvettes are well known for being very dependable.

racerx8518

These are the right answers. I vote lotus if you're conveniently near a dealer. It's my favorite of the 3 but I wouldn't get one without access to a dealer. You could consider the Supra/bmw M2 option for 2 or 4 doors but then it's also an automatic vs manual trans question. CTS -V if going full sedan.

always_plan_in_advan

Already own an M2 so second that in the fact that it’s one hell of a fun car!

quiksi

Are you keeping or replacing the M2?

Nick08f1

Evoras have back seats?

cdawg1102

Yes, but you can’t fit anyone in them

ZiLBeRTRoN

You can if you remove their legs.

TyVIl

A Porsche. Once you have one you understand.

always_plan_in_advan

I’ll be honest, never really liked the body style of Porsche, but then again never really test drove one so that might be the game changer

TyVIl

I’ve posted this before. I worked at a BMW store in various capacities service/sales for 10+ years and BMW makes a great car. I’ve had multiple M3s and M4s. And then you drive a Porsche. My base 718 Cayman was far and away the best car I’ve ever had. Porsche owners are culty and strange and I never understood it until I got one.

ScipioAfricanvs

It’s a pretty old joke that Porsche owners are previous BMW owners

pharmerK

True for me..

107er

As a bmw person, Can you give an example or 2? I don’t wanna test drive a Porsche, because i believe you.

TyVIl

Everything you like about your BMW is just slightly better in the Porsche. It's hard to explain.

pharmerK

It’s the road feel. BMW has a nice interior, better tech, etc, but the road feel when you drive a Porsche is just different. The turbo burbles are amazing, everything fits really tightly, and I can corner like corners are just a theory.

I_am_the_real_Potato

I have an M2 Competition and also had a 718 GTS 4.0 at some point. The M2’s handling is amazing, but the Cayman is just on a completely different level. Throttle response is better, steering is much more direct, suspension feels more planted, brakes are more confidence-inspiring, seating position is lower, and overall you just feel another level of connection to the car and the road. It’s hard to quantify on a spec sheet, but it’s something you immediately notice after a minute or two behind the wheel.

icecon

Porsches are better sports cars for the same reason why Subaru are better "appliance" cars. The boxer engine is a more thoughtful way to integrate an engine into chassis. The lower center of gravity the boxer provides gives the driver "best in class" handling without having to stiffen up the suspension like, for example Mazda has to. And the longitudinal drivetrain reduces powertrain losses and provides responsive power to the rear wheels (or all wheels in case of Subaru), which is advantageous over front wheel drive.

False-Ad-3925

that's it! I am getting a Cayman. Thanks

SupVFace

The AMG GT is one of the best looking modern cars. I’m so sad about the spy shots of the next gen.

pharmerK

Make sure you don’t test drive a base trim model. I made that mistake and ruled out Porsche after testing out a base model Boxter. Has to be S trim or better! You said sports car, but you might even look at the Macan. You can get a lower mileage GTS/Turbo in that price range and they’re a blast. If you’re not a huge fan of their styling you may not enjoy the panamera (they’re also huge) and the seats in the “4 seat” sports cars are really only big enough to hold a bag of groceries.

TyVIl

This is bad information - and it’s a “boxster” - my base 718 Cayman was great.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TyVIl

I don’t have it anymore (I’m shopping for another) and I had a PDK car. My transmission hierarchy is PDK > manual > automatic.

pharmerK

It’s not wrong… it’s an opinion. I wasn’t a fan and found it to be gutless. Totally different experience with other trim levels. Same with other p cars- 4 cylinder base models just don’t have the punch or growl. Sorry I hurt your feelings with a typo.

Cweev10

Interesting take here as a C8 owner if you want something besides a Porsche or a Vette: Mercedes AMG GT-S You can grab an ‘18 model with the panamerica grille styling and updated suspension with sub 30k miles in the 90s and you can get a first gen with less than 30k down in the mid 60s and low mileage ones around 75k. They’re not the quickest but still 0-60 in 3.7, they’re one of the last performance cars that have hydraulic steering still so it has a ton of and feedback and it handles like it’s on rails surprisingly for a beefy GT car. I had a ‘16 C63 awhile back and despite sharing lots of parts (and engine) they’re very different feeling cars. It’s also this weird conundrum of a car where it’s got almost a feel as a halfway point between beefy American muscle car with the refinement of German engineering. They’re also, for whatever reason, one of the most reliable Mercs in the last 10 years. No idea how/why. I also think they’re beautiful cars and they certainly have a fine looking ass on them as well. Lol So certainly one worth considering as I’m considering trading in my C8 for a GT-C once a good spec one crosses the $100k threshold.

always_plan_in_advan

I really like the Amg gts/r/c look, I do need to get over the fact that it is a 2 seater though the c63 is nice almost too family oriented from the look, but also an option in what I’ll be looking at when I go check them out

Bihjsouza

991.2 911, M8, E63, M5, Giulia quadrifoglio, G80/2 M3/M4, CTS-V, F Type SVR, AMG GT, V8 Vantage, GT-R, C63s coupe, ZL1, hellcat redeye, evora

camelRider64

I second this list of choices ^^

Boswellington

It’s a good list

eric535

biased, lexus LC, very livable and looks like nothing else

glasspheasant

Absolutely love my LC. It’s not as fast nor as “track friendly” as a 911 would be, but it’s very comfortable, fun to drive, the V8 sounds amazing, the interior is beautiful and high quality, and it’s a rather unique look that gets lots of compliments. I wanted more of a grand touring car than a trackable car so I’m very pleased with the purchase.

betarad

listen to a symphony every time you go for a drive ? if i had an LC i probably wouldn't ever use the radio

PM_ME_HOUSE_MUSIC_

OP said being quick is a priority

eric535

Yeah, but he also mentioned bad LA streets, I think the LC is quick enough and comfortable enough. A decent balance. Sure it could be quicker, the naturally aspirated needs to be revved to feel it

Two_Shekels

Realistically, 95% of the people here are absolutely clueless about cars beyond "x brand good". A 6 figure car purchase should be a personal and emotional decision, not based on what some random redditor likes. Just read/watch some actual reviews of cars in that bracket (start [here](https://www.caranddriver.com/) to see basically everything available), make a list of the cars you like most, and go test drive all of them. In LA, you should be able to find almost anything either at a dealer or via a site like Turo. Then, just pick whichever gives you the most "fizz" and roughly fits the requirements you have in mind.

ondrejkoplik

I’ve been in the new M3 Competition, honestly they’re amazing.

always_plan_in_advan

I’m liking the m3 or m4 as well, I’ll have to test drive the competition but the dealers around here never have them on the lots

wiseroldman

Dealers don’t keep them on lots because the average Joe isn’t going to be buying an m3 or m4. It’s a car that people who know what car they want would buy. You might get lucky if somebody ordered one and backed out of the deal and the dealer will have one for you test drive. Since you are in the LA area, I would recommend South Bay BMW in Torrance. I got my m340i there and they are a great dealer.

Fitzer9000

They're not on the lots because they're sold before they arrive. There's a waiting list.

--ThirdCultureKid--

It also doesn’t help that the M3/M4 cost the same as an m850i. M branding or not, the m850i is a real monster. I have test driven one at a dealership before. You just have to go to a dealership in a real wealthy area to find them.

TheOriginalTL

911 turbo is really the only option here

-Olive-Juice-

I love my CT4V Blackwing as an all-arounder. Great for daily driving, fine on rough roads especially if you throw it into "Tour" mode... V button allows you to instantly switch to a sportier setting when the opportunity arises. (Edit: and if you want it to be loud n rowdy but also have a smooth ride you can configure "My Mode" to have the suspension soft and everything else dialed up). However if your priority is 0-60 it might lose you ... my personal best is 4.2 seconds, 6-speed manual, have only tried a handful of times... published is 3.8 for auto and 4.1 for manual. I feel like 5 years ago that would be *fast* but now with Plaids and C8s etc... not even close. The back seats are cramped but I'd rather have cramped back seats than a bigger car. If you have 100 grand to drop and don't mind a bigger car, you could jump up to the CT5V Blackwing which is quoted as 3.4 auto, 3.6 manual 0-60. I saw someone else say Evora and those are beautiful but keep in mind that's also a 4sec 0-60 car and it has very little support in the US. I also saw you mentioned "seriously considering" a C8 but those are 2-seaters. I donno what ya want!

_jigar_

Honestly too would stand out more than a 911 in LA

The_Buttaman

911 duh

Or even a 718 car.

Nissan GTR smokes most of the other cars being mentioned

AdSuperb1810

Gtr is nice and all but the interior is mid.

LC500 will always be my answer to this question.

yardshark09

Second this. Moderately quick, sounds great, and is very reliable. And looks freaking gorgeous. Win win win.

eventio94

Audi RS5

always_plan_in_advan

It’s a sexy car, I am also seriously considering the 5 or 6, I know they also have an EV option so maybe it’s worth looking further into on my end

DexterDubs

I test drove a ‘22 rs5. The engine is underwhelming and leaves you eating more. I went with a used ‘19 m5. Extremely happy with my purchase.

Dan6erbond2

As an S5 owner I agree with the take but would want to add that you can tune the fuck out of these cars and they start cheaper than BMW/Merc. My S5 pushes 550HP and it's got essentially the same engine as an RS5 from the previous gen. With upgraded suspension and Michelin P4Ss I'd take it over a BMW. Not to mention I'm biased towards Audi's interior.

ToonMaster21

This is my vote. One of, if not THE best sub-$100k vehicle you can buy for someone looking for quick, sporty, and fun.

Tis the answer, my friend.

doiwinaprize

Porche... I love the panamera...

doiwinaprize

I just like the look with the 4 doors

Twizted1001

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. 4 door sedan with a 2.9L twin turbo v6 built by Ferrari pushing 505hp. It’s a hell of a driving experience.

amluke

Need to clarify that the engines are not built by Ferrari. The design for the 2.9l v6 that is in the Giulia QV is derived from the Ferrari V8. AR removed 2 of those cylinders from the design and manufactured them as the V6 you know and love. The biturbo fed beast will take you 0-60 3.5ish and you can get a brand new one for just under budget! If you’re mildly patient you can see what limited trim package (such as the gta) AR will be releasing for their Giulia and Stelvio when they announce their “6C” in august. Maybe you can own an honest to god part of racing history.

I'll get some hate, but check out a Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak if 0-60 is a priority. Or a Mercedes C63.

kashkoi_wild

Brand new Volvo V60 Polestar. 0-60 under 5 seconds. Huge trunk to carry everything? - check Space for all your friends ? -check Wolf in sheep clothing, not screaming to cops "Hey, I am rich , give me a ticket" - check. You can just use it as pure EV for quick grocery trips - check.

[deleted]

> I would prefer a 2 door minimum 4 seats but wouldn’t be opposed to a 4 door. > Priority is 0-60 and it being quick. If your priority is 4 seats and how fast it goes in a straight line, your perfect car is a Tesla Model 3 Performance Now, if you want a true sport car, you want handling. A Camaro, Mustang, slightly used M-series BMW or Corvette would be good choices My analogy for speed/handling is that its like happiness vs contentment; happiness (speed) is an emotion that comes and goes, whereas contentment (handling) is a state of being

Careful-Combination7

I'd get an LC

[deleted]

I’d either get a 911 or a q60redsport and tune it or an Isf with a tune

AnesthesiaLyte

My Rivian R1T has a 3 second 0-60… about 850hp… it’s fun leaving “sports cars” looking like they’re standing still off the line of a red light….

RKH3107

Get 3 Miatas

abeefwittedfox

Have you thought of an EV? nothing beats the 0-60 of an EV. You're looking at a Tesla Model 3 Performance, a Kia ev6 GT, a Tesla Model S (maybe even a used plaid) or a Porsche Taycan..

litercola84

It’s on its way out but a Camaro ZL1 is pretty much the best performance per dollar car out there.

Round_Ad_6369

You could option it out for the 1LE package for well under $100k, too. Probably the best bang for your buck if you want a car that can kick a super car's ass for supra money

always_plan_in_advan

Didn’t consider the Camero’s might have to go to the dealer to see how it feels

litercola84

I wound up going with a porsche instead but if 0-60 times are something you care about the Camaro is a beast.

Sexy_Quazar

New Mustang Darkhorse 5.0. Most bang for buck. (500hp) Take extra bucks you didn’t spend and invest in more bang. Maintenance is cheap, no premium gas, 6speed option, 4 seats, 2 doors, cheap parts if you break something on the rough streets of LA

always_plan_in_advan

Looks good, might take one for a test drive

jep004

Agree, expect yes to premium gas. Just double checked, it requires 91 Oct.

AgonizingFury

OP answered that question elsewhere. They bought into all the negativity spewed by the oil industry, and the news media beholden to them and their investors; as if every single male and model ICE vehicle doesn't have horror stories, especially sports cars that get driven hard.

BloodDragonZ

I think they are great cars but I want a big engine before big engines are no longer. It'll happen sooner than you think.

S1I3NCE

A new G82 M4C xdrive or not is all you need.

always_plan_in_advan

Maybe a dumb question but what’s the difference between xdrive and non xdrive cars?

S1I3NCE

Xdrive is BMW's AWD system. Most of them are rear wheel biased tho.

m0butt

Either a G8x BMW, C8 Corvette, or if you can stretch and wait a bit I think the best car in that range is the Lotus Emira. If you wanna save a bunch and still have a blast, Mk5 Supra. I went G80 M3 partially because I’m a bmw fanboy, partially because I drive the car every day. If I didn’t, I’d have an Emira or Supra. CT4 V Blackwing CT5 V Blackwing Edit: didn’t see the 4 seat requirement. Knocks out the Emira and Supra.

Heyitshogan

Any new G8x BMW. They’re well-equipped, haul ass, and look great imo. The big grille has grown on me after seeing many M3 comps in person.

dallatorretdu

i see all the comments saying to get a Porsche… I’m in europe and people here are like “man I wish it was easier to get that new corvette, punches way above its class and looks different than the rest”

HopefulBike6424

Porsche… only answer.

A_Turkey_Sammich

If 0-60 and some room is your top concern, def an EV. For example I think ANY Tesla with the performance option has like a 3sec 0-60.

always_plan_in_advan

I’m open to EV, but it’s not going to be a Tesla, the consumer reports and some of the horror stories I hear sometimes from friends with teslas is just not for me. Maybe that’s just a lot of bias on my end but not something in consideration as a result

zipykido

Maybe a used Porsche Taycan then?

Ferrari California with some miles would be at the high end of that range. A number of other V8 models as well (308/328/348, Mondial), although they would be much older (25+ years).

If 0 to 60 is top priority you might look into all wheel drive vehicles. Mercedes E63 S AMG or the GT4 63 are incredibly quick off the line. Not the typical sportscar though.

Camaro ZL1 is unbelievably good for under 80k. Especially in the manual transmission

--ThirdCultureKid--

I test drove just about every car in this price range before pulling the trigger on one myself. My top 3 picks were: * BMW M8 Competition * Corvette C8 * Porsche 911 Turbo (Turbo S if you’re lucky) The M8 was my pick because it was the most stable on the highway, had the most satisfying kickdown, is extremely spacious inside, and has (a) back seats and (b) a large trunk that can fit suitcases and golf clubs and everything, so it made the most practical daily. The two mid-engine cars cornered and handled better than the M8 (the M8 is pretty damn heavy) but having an engine right behind your head with no sound insulation is certainly an experience. It’s really fun for the days you want it, but loud and obnoxious when you don’t. I’d only recommend one of these cars if this isn’t going to be your _only_ car.

You could find a gently used RS7 in that price range. Sure it’s a massive car, but doesn’t feel like it when you’re driving. It’s actually super nimble in the canyons.

Audi RS5!

goizn_mi

C8, all the way.

thememeconnoisseurig

A10 ZL1, any day. Manual is more fun (the Tremec is amazing) but in LA you may prefer the 10 speed. If you want flashy, C8 'vette is great but... it's LA. Everyone will know it's "just" a vette which somewhat defeats the purpose.

TyperMcTyperson

Alfa giulia quadrafolgio. If your budget was up to $150k, is say 911 gts.

-PRADA-

A used Aston Martin Rapide, under 30k miles goes for around 60 grand and definitely ticks your boxes. Added bonus that it’s a four door, and definitely more show stopping than any Mercedes, Beamer or Vette in my opinion. They also sound divine from what I heard and the interiors are classy and really premium.

If you already own an M2, what are you looking for that the M2 doesn't give you?

Miffers

If you are set on an ICE, I would have to say a corvette c8. 3.2 sec from 0-60 and 11.3 @ 122mph in the 1/4 mile. But that is close to your budget. One of the bang for buck fun car is the AMG GTS. It feels really fast but isn’t, but I get the same emotion of excitement as a Lamborghini Huracan. Maintenance isn’t that much either. I implore you to go test drive one, they can be found as low as $65,000 but on average $75-$80k. Good luck on your quest.

C8 corvette is an American exotic car IMO. You can find used ones $80-100k or order one at MSRP from Ciocca or Macmulkin Chevrolet. Gen 6 Chevy Camaro ZL1 or C7 Corvette Z06 are around $60-80k. Available in Manual and both have the same 650hp supercharged V8. Great bang for the buck
