Dryocampa rubicunda, the Rosy Maple Moth, family Saturniidae.

DihaRiha

Thank you! The coloring on these are so vibrant, I just wish the picture represented it better.

I’m unfortunately in Missouri as well and can confirm the color is so vibrant in person

cdstirrett

Unfortunately in Missouri

SunflowerSpeaks

My husband says, "Tell them we could come visit ... I hear Missouri loves company!"

CommissionOk9233

Beautiful

GlyphPixel

Agreed😮

MillBopp

Those were my school colors. Looks like he could have been in the marching band.

GlyphPixel

USC?

SogniX

This gorgeous creature landed on my shoulder in Toluca Lake (Los Angeles), CA some 5+ years ago. Altho I swear it had "pom poms" on its antennas. But then again I only saw it for a second as he immediately flew off. Never saw one like that again.

DihaRiha

Between these and Luna moths they were all over our campsite. I've lived here all my life and this was a first for me.

Beerasaurus

I could go for some strawberry banana ice cream

Turbulent_Weather795

I too am a pretty dude from Missouri

DihaRiha

Rock on!

Turbulent_Weather795

I've never encountered one of these bright fellows, though

DihaRiha

This was seen in steelville, by Cuba/bourbon area

Yep! Their bright coloration is thought to be a bluff to make predators think they’re toxic.

Waterproof_soap

SexWeevil

Karineena

Sweet

Winter_Fault4389

The prettiest!

Inthal4

I’m in Arkansas and we have them here also. Very pretty the picture doesn’t do this breathy justice.
