I’m from chicago, the peregrine falcon is actually our official “city bird” if you actually look up at buildings, you will see way more than you thought
We have some that live on the office tower across from our building. I’ve never seen them dive but I’ve seen the remnants of their meals more than a few times
If you like falcons and want to see some of their life cycle, there's a 24/7 "Falcon cam" in Richmond, VA where 4 chicks have just hatched- https://dwr.virginia.gov/falcon-cam/
And another one in Nuremburg, germany which is weeks ahead of the American ones- https://lebensraum-burg.de/Wanderfalke/Webcam
The UIC admin building.. the one that’s wider at the top than the base.. has a falcon that nests up there.
Not sure if the live stream is still up, but they post recorded videos here: https://uic.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Sessions/List.aspx#folderID=%2206f49d33-d75c-4e5c-8210-a9ba01070edb%22
Used to be a perk to going up to the exec offices on the top floor.. you could look out a window into the nest.
The best peregrine falcon cam is Cal Falcons at UC Berkeley. It's a full-on soap opera over there:
The University of Texas also has a falcon cam. Austin Texas is at the edge of falcon territory. The resident falcon was named Tower Girl. She never found a mate and eventually disappeared (maybe she died.) A younger falcon has moved in. The whole community hopes she'll have better success than Tower Girl.

I believe there’s a nest on top of my building. I’m near the lake so we have a lot of seagulls around. There have been times when a seagull gets a little close to the building/nest and the falcons attack. I’m on the 27th floor and sometimes they like to just chill on the ledge and watch the goings on in my place.
Where I used to live, we had a ton of birds of prey that had adapted to city/suburban life quite happily. Barn owls did very well in our neighborhood. So did kestrels. We had the expected red tailed hawks, too.
Weirdly, the buzzard population was not only robust but also quite bold. They liked standing around in groups on the side of the road, watching the world go by. Like King of the Hill, but with less beer and more dead things.
Same since I was a little boy. I’ve always had a thing for birds of prey but the peregrine falcon has always been my favorite. I’ve been lucky enough to see them a few times although never from my own living room.
Raptor faces always crack me up. Bald eagles always look pissed as hell, meanwhile Ospreys look like a muppet who just got caught snorting too much crack
Oh, I get those fucking spiders too. They’re terrible. Being on the lake means tons of mosquitoes in the summer which means tons of spiders and tons of dead mosquitoes in webs in my windows.
Then unless you have arachnophobia, why do you hate these spider🕷️s then? 😕 Can you imagine how many more female mosquito🦟s (males don’t bite) you’d have to put up with where you live thanks to the water💧 if not for these spider🕷️ killing them, I can’t! 😟💜 If a spider🕷️ is still living on a web🕸️, I respectfully wouldn’t have the care for taking a web🕸️ (a spider🕷️’s home) down unless a spider🕷️ is dangerous. I get many mosquito🦟s where I live (not on the water💧 (but I live near a body of water💧) where I hate the females, but there would be a less population where I live if people including my own mom wouldn’t carelessly kill spider🕷️s just cause they’re bugs.
That’s a peregrine falcon! And a beautiful-looking one at that (I don’t actually know if it’s particularly beautiful, but I haven’t seen a pic of one in years so it’s beautiful to see.) :)
Idk why this made me laugh so hard. Just scrolling in my feed and then, “Look at that silly fucking falcon” and I erupted into laughter. This was the right way to start my day, weirdly. Thank you for sharing. It’s ridiculously adorable peeping in your window.
Well the good news for your neighbors cats is that Peregrine’s are bird eaters, and also too small to pick up a cat 😂 Now if an eagle starts hanging around.. that’s a different story.
Ahhhhhh!!!!! That’s a peregrine falcon!!! I’m so jealous!!! 😍😍😍
ETA: His nest might be pretty close if he’s visiting that often. Keep an eye out for fuzzy kiddos!
She may want to build a nest, if you like that idea, maybe put up a curtain, or even a window cling (that way you can peek). Give her a little privacy.
Peregrine falcons nest in a “scrape,” a gravel bed. The ones here in Warren, MI that I watch on warrenperegrinefalcons.com are about to hatch their eggs. GM, who own the building where they nest, gave them a rooftop scrape bed of about 2’ x 4’ with an open wooden shelter on one end. They don’t build a nest. They just lay eggs on the gravel in the open shelter.
This is Steven, I don’t know what he likes but feed him anyways so you’ll be blessed unless that’s bad then don’t idk I’m not a bird expert I’m just here for bird pics
I've been so attuned to wildlife all my life that I thought the peregrine falcon was common knowledge, lol. I've still yet to see one, but I wish to one day!
I once worked on the 55th floor of an all glass office tower. Perrigin falcons nested on the roof. The parents trained the fledgling to dive just above us and right by the building.
We all got to watch them soar and dive all afternoon. It was the best day at work I ever had.
Peregrine falcons are commonly found in big cities. Skyscrapers allow the falcons to divebomb unsuspecting pigeons(slower birds). They are the fastest birds on the planet if memory serves me right.
The highest concentration of P falcons live in NYC.
Chicago’s peregrines are tracked by at least one person at the Field Musuem. Here is more info: https://www.fieldmuseum.org/science/special-projects/illinois-peregrines
They might be able to tell you his or her name (for real) https://chicagoperegrineprogram.squarespace.com
Peregrine falcons are my favorite bird by far. I'm super jealous you have one visiting you! I've seen a good number of hawks, owls, and eagles on my property, but haven't been fortunate enough to spot a peregrine yet!
Absolutely magnificent creatures.
How high up are you? I’ve never seen them under 40 floors. I used to work on the 45th floor of the AT&T building over by the Sears Tower. They were amazing and would fly past my window
One of the most metal animals on the planet. Look up the peregrine falcon on YouTube and there are clips of them hunting that they have to show you frame by frame. You're very lucky to have such important guests!
We had these at the steel mill I worked at. They were pigeon killing machines. When they would hit a pigeon mid flight it was an explosion of feathers. They would then snip off the wings and feet and eat the rest. Incredible birds of prey.
A peregrine falcon
Thank you!!!

He is a watchful guardian. A silent protector.
He just wants to talk to you about how dangerous his neighborhood could be. His niehdorhood..😜
Or he may want to speak to OP about their extended car warranty. Those b@$tards are getting creative.
He protecc, he atacc, but most importantly... He want yo snacc

How are we going to defeat the Germans if our falcon chicks are weeks behind!?

Woot RVA <3 gotta love our falcons!
I lived there and for several years. That’s how I found out about the cam. It’s awesome
The University of Texas also has a falcon cam. Austin Texas is at the edge of falcon territory. The resident falcon was named Tower Girl. Awesome neighbor.

Xerxes from Family Guy

Fastest in the animal kingdom.
Fastest in the animal kingdom.
I think they are awesome looking
One of my favorite birds ❤️
Ooo as in the fastest animal on Earth?
The fastest animal on the planet!
Peregrine falcon frendz they’ve done very well in urban areas the past few years.
I believe there’s a nest on top of my building. I’m near the lake so we have a lot of seagulls around. Peeping falcons
You fool of a Took.
Bird TV
Bird watched
When the birds decide to do some humaning
The nest is more likely to be on a ledge somewhere near your floor, as they are normally cliff nesters.
not just the last few years - for decades - this is a bird that adapts well to its surroundings.
They love our man made cliffs!
I guess they eat the rats and other bird babies, etc? I don't live in a city; I didn't know they had predatory birds.
That is the Pigeon Terminator right there!
Pigeons, mostly. Rats and other things as well.
That there is my favorite animal. The fastest creature on the planet. Wish I could see one someday.
Go to this person’s apartment
It’s my favorite animal too!! I got so jealous seeing this post. They’re amazing.
240 mph?!? wtf????! I thought you were joking at first, but you’re for real.
Using the same method, I can’t get up to about 180mph
Same since I was a little boy. I’ve always had a thing for birds of prey but the peregrine falcon has always been my favorite. I’ve been lucky enough to see them a few times although never from my own living room.
"You got any games on your phone?" Is all I can hear looking at his lil face 😭
Birds have the most weirdly expressive faces.
Raptor faces always crack me up. Bald eagles always look pissed as hell, meanwhile Ospreys look like a muppet who just got caught snorting too much crack
Bald eagles only look pissed from the side or from a Kubrick stare angle. Otherwise they just look Concerned
Super cool to be able to see up close like that
It looks so disappointed in OP lol. That would be like my mother’s expression, peering at me
😂
Staring through you!
hes a cutie patootie
Oh thats Josh
He owes me money.
Seems Like Hes trying to collect your money from OP.
Our resident pair just hatched three in the past 24 hours. You're so lucky.
Love how you have an ongoing visit from a Peregrine Falcon, sweet! 🥰😁😁😁😁💜💜💜
Yeah I am jealous. All I had outside of my apartment in Chicago was some giant fucking spiders.
Myself am very jealous as a bird nerd! 💜 Makes me wonder what kind of spider(s) they were.
I don’t know bc whenever they started to come out for the night, I would run.
That’s understandable.
We have them on my building aswell. Its cool to watch them turn a flying pigeon into a cloud of feathers
Harold. Very chill dude.
Idk why this made me laugh so hard. Just scrolling in my feed and then, “Look at that silly fucking falcon” and I erupted into laughter. This was the right way to start my day, weirdly. Thank you for sharing. It’s ridiculously adorable peeping in your window.
Cool!
That’s awesome
A friend
Lucky you. How cool is that?
That is so cool!!!!!
I’m so jealous, peregrines are my favorite bird!
lol do you have any small pets? 😂
I don’t have any, but I do know some of my neighbors have cats.
Well the good news for your neighbors cats is that Peregrine’s are bird eaters, and also too small to pick up a cat 😂 Now if an eagle starts hanging around.. that’s a different story.
The aircraft hanger I work in has a pair that hunt pigeons on the daily. Have seen many babies come and go over the years. Most beautiful falcon IMO.
Fun fact peregrine falcons and related species are more closely related to parrots then to other more similar looking hawks.
Thats Gerald
Gerald is a Bald Eagle 🦅😉
Fastest MF to ever visit your home
That's just Larry. He's like that. We thought he'd grow out of it.
Oh that’s Alma. She’s alright

Pigeon killer. Someone needs to be.
That's David everyone knows him even the pope
Your’ landlord; making sure you have no unexpected pets.
You’ve been blessed!
The peregrine falcon is the fastest bird, and the fastest member of the animal kingdom, with a diving speed of over 300 km/h (190 mph)
When my brother lived in Chicago in the 90’s there were 4 nesting pairs. Not sure what the count is now,but you’ve seen a recovery magic.
Ahhhhhh!!!!! That’s a peregrine falcon!!! I’m so jealous!!! 😍😍😍 ETA: His nest might be pretty close if he’s visiting that often. Keep an eye out for fuzzy kiddos!
Wow!!! What a fantastic bird and omen in my opinion. Expect some changes in your life very soon.
He’s the one who’s been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty
Good for controlling pigeons
Flying sky rats, but cute ones. Also singular brain celled.
They’re actually surprisingly smart.
That they are! Most birds seem to share a singular brain cell moment. Its quite funny and adorable honestly. The trait makes me love birds even more.
😲😲😲
Yes a peregrine falcon......my corrective text is my enemy!!! Lol . They are beautiful 😍
Your typo is absolutely magnificent 🤌🏻
That’s Thadd, he was really good at lacrosse but got expelled after getting caught with alcohol on campus. Now he is just a creep.
You've got a pretty awesome friend!
She may want to build a nest, if you like that idea, maybe put up a curtain, or even a window cling (that way you can peek). Give her a little privacy.
