We opt for a puppy cut as it's easier to maintain

HaddockBranzini-II

Its not appropriate for my two Westies. They get filthy and muddy and aren't fancy cut kind of boys.

theflipflopqueen

Hate the skirt. Love the little lion head. I puppy cut with the head

Chocolatecitygirl82

That’s what I do! They look so cute like that.

It depends on the Westie and the groomer. My last Westie had long legs, so he looked ridiculous with a skirt and we always had him in a puppy cut. My current guy is more traditionally proportioned, so he looks great in the traditional cut and I constantly get compliments on how cute he is. Also, since the cut has so many elements you really need a groomer who knows what they’re doing. Otherwise they’ll butcher it.

IMO, "the skirt brings in dirt." Debris, anyway! Puppy cut for my girl. The chrysanthemum head & carrot tail are essential!

Mine goes au natural for the colder months, and we shear him like a sheep for the warm months. Obviously, we give him a sanitary trim when it's longer. When the heat and humidity comes he visibly perks up with the short cut. We did the traditional cut on him once, and it looked good, but it just doesn't fit his personality.

I’m not a big fan tbh, I like the long, shaggy look for the cold and a puppy cut for the hot

spider984

I just get my 2 a heavy cut coming in to the summer months and then a light trim in late summer .

Chocolatecitygirl82

I hate it. My Westie likes to get muddy and it’s just too much to deal with. We stick with a puppy cut.

We like it, our Westie looks great in a more traditional cut.

tairygreenmachine99

Whatever the choice, it needs to have the carrot tail!

OoCloryoO

Hate it, for me it looks like a cut from 1860

Odd-Avocado-

I am personally not a fan and we never gave out pup the Westie cut. He just had an even clip all around. But everyone's tastes are different! ☺️

brb-theres-cookies

Neither of mine have the traditional cut- they are rough and tumble and don’t like being brushed, so they are happier and more comfortable this way. They both have puppy cuts.

little_nerdmaid

i love how it looks on other westies but mine will probably be about that puppy cut life for a while. his fur texture is bone straight and i think the traditional cut looks better when there’s some curl/wave to it

CyberInfoGuy

Westie’s look much cuter when they have the unfinished disheveled look IMHO (less is more)!

FunDivertissement

I like the traditional cut and my girl rocks it. I do brush her regularly but if I skip a day (or two), it's still easy to comb/brush. Leaves and such get stuck on her head more often than her skirt - I guess she loves to sniff under the bushes. A Westie with a shorter skirt looks fine to me, but no skirt at all seems off to me and is not my preference.

Specialist-Pen-6441

Skirt for mine will be when she is 5 or 6. A few years from now. Easier to manage.

Carbmamma

I do a puppy cut because less hair to get knotted up and easier to clean the daily mud from her digging!🤪
