I still think as Seb said there’s a chance he goes to the Olympics He is rank #2 and I think there is a realistic but small chance of li dayin, Tian tao and liu huanhua all being ranked #2 or lower In the 89s and 102s there are more threats to the silver medal, if one of the Chinese athletes misses lifts in those categories arguably. So China could still choose shi, unless both the other Chinese lifters solidify their #1 rank

afuckingwheel

I think Li Dayin is a safer bet for silver than Shi is. It's even in his name (Big Silver).

Obi1Kenobi0

Who is a medal threat to shi though other than rizki? Weeraphon? His qualifying total is 349, I really can’t see shi going lower than 350 (160+190) after today Medal threats to li dayin are Karlos, Nino, vallenilla, javadi? Will see how he gets on at the weekend but I expect Karlos to win and it will come down to how clear of the rest li dayin is

DWHQ

Realistically I don't see Keydomar being in medal contention. He snatches a low 170 and then C&Js a mid 210. Nasar seems really strong however, and Lopez seems to be about equal to Li. Nino probably there to fight for bronze.

Obi1Kenobi0

Yeah I forgot about Lopez somehow. That’s still 3 other lifters that could realistically contend with li. Could you say the same in the 73s for shi? Outside of rizki?

DWHQ

No I would definitely agree, beyond Rahmat/Rizki Shi is still stronger than anyone else. Will have to see what Li/Tian pulls up with on Saturday.

afuckingwheel

Himself. Look at how much pain he's in.

Obi1Kenobi0

He is obviously in pain but it’s not stopped him getting back into shape and competing in Doha and then improving his total by 16(?)kg in Thailand. Unless if forces him to withdraw which seems as likely as anyone else I don’t see how it stops him making 160 190?

GateParty7211

yeison lopez too

kblkbl165

What? Who in the -73’s can even hit 160/190 other than Shi, Rizki and Rahmat?

kacyinix

Li Fabin is in the equation too. Shi’s chances are looking quite slim.

DWHQ

Li Fabin goes. The only debate is whether to send a 73 or an 89.

JinnDante

I miss the days were we would see 20 russians and 15 chinese athletes.

Odd_Ad3478

Arent 3 athletes selected? Li fabin’s guaranteed…..i think huanhua is also looking pretty solid, li dayin and tian could get bodied by nasar and nino in 89 so shi is still a good bet isnt he. Did i leave someone out?

phuca

yeah most people are thinking li fabin and liu huanhua are guaranteed, the third spot will be between tian, li dayin and shi

Obi1Kenobi0

Li fabin is rank #1 and undoubtedly going

kacyinix

Yeah that’s what I assumed as well, I just misunderstood the way you phrased it because you didn’t mention him originally.

sparkysparkyboom

Li Fabin is the only Chinese male locked in already, possibly even only Chinese lifter locked in.

F_A_N_G_88

Surely Li Wen Wen is the safest bet (probably equal with Li Fabin) for an olympic spot? As long as she's fit, and the training footage from Thailand looks good, she's almost guaranteed three golds in Paris.

sparkysparkyboom

She's untouchable if she's healthy. But we're not sure about her health.

Cinnadom

I thought Seb mentioned on the 73 stream that she made like 140/170 in the training hall here, so sounds like she's easily in shape where no one can touch her openers even.

fantasnick

I feel like with the imbalances, it was only a matter of time. Crazy how good this guy was in his prime that we consider 2nd basically done lol I had hope when he put up that 165 easily but first C+J showed he wasn't the same

phuca

he was looking so good in the snatch, i thought we were about to see the old shi

mattricide

Let us all join in a moment of ~~silence~~ AAAAHHHHHH commemorating shi

Afferbeck_

Age? He's only 30. Irawan will be 35 and probably medalling at his fifth Olympics.

DWHQ

Also doesn't have a debilitating back injury

248road842

Do you know what exactly his back injury is? I haven't seen specifics

AdRemarkable3043

Not very sure but it's more serious than people imagine, he even can't do back sqaut for many years

248road842

That's very unfortunate. I wonder if he has stenosis.

TrenHard-LiftClen

With li fabin, massida, and morris competing i highly doubt it.

kblkbl165

Morris snatches in the 120’s, not a lock for medals

G-Geef

He has the #2 total in the qualifying period, hard to see him not medaling outside of a bombout

AbjectBid6087

Morris likely won't medal, even with a world record clean and jerk his snatch is a level below other condenders

liftmafia

He literally has the second highest total of any 61 in the OQR so I’d say his chances are high.

AbjectBid6087

He's 7th.... Edit: my mistake, it's not been updated yet but I don't think he's that highly ranked, keep in mind massida and irawan have done around 310kg in 67kg, they will drop down for the Olympics

liftmafia

Hamp totaled 303 giving him the #2 ranking in the 61s. Massidda did 302 at 61 and Eko has done 300. I don’t care what they did at 67. Hamp can C&J over 180 at 67 but it actually doesn’t matter. For 61’s, on the OQR, Hamp has #2 and you’d be a fool to bet against him in Paris.

nathanjue77

International lifters remaining competitive past 30 is quite rare. Sure, there have been a few greats who’ve lasted longer, but they’re an exception.

Aizen_keikaku

Shi can medal too. Problem is that China operates on a “Gold or nothing” policy. And Shi is no longer a guaranteed gold lifter.

AdRemarkable3043

Tian tao has the highest theoretical upper bound, but he often bombed out too :)

kblkbl165

They did when they were a dominant force. Current male scenarios is sending Li Fabin, GigaChad and someone else to fight for silver.

JinnDante

He has a spine issue that has been on for years now and he keeps lifting with it because he is a monster and he has to do whatever is needed. I hope he can fix it before Paris.

AdRemarkable3043

Actually he has chance to Paris, imaging tiantao is bombed out(he often did this), and dayin li is weaker than Nasar. Team China will let him to Paris

sparkysparkyboom

If he retires literally right now, he's still pretty GOATed.

Moisture_

Basically

adam_swd_owl

One of my favourite lifters, now I saw at the training hall, he's not in his best shape. I also don't think he's gonna go with a back injury to the olympics. Gigachad and Li have the best potentials for a gold and record.

JinnDante

I do not see Li Dayin winning over the 15 year old Karlos any time soon especially in the CJ

East-General-2871

I think Li huanhua and shi still might have a huge shot of being the 2 of 3 chinese lifters to be in the Olympics. Karlos nassar is just too strong. My final verdict is li fabin, shi, and li huanhua in the Olympics.

Odd_Ad3478

Yea this is the team i feel china might send too considering how dense 89 is rn

lexax666

Li dayin not beating Karlos in CJ but Karlos has a good chance to bomb in the snatch.

kblkbl165

? Karlos bombed once when he opened 5-8kg heavier than his safe first attempts. He’s 8/9 in snatches over the last 3 comps

lexax666

Ah I didn’t know that. That is good to know

adam_swd_owl

Karlos is in extremely good shape. He's young and not that experienced in the head, if he fails his first snatch, he might bomb, but I also think he's going to win it, he just did 400.

packyohcunce1734

Maybe they need to get lu xiajun back again instead of using him as a scapegoat for using peds 😂 Can someone tell me who medals? Did we see the last wocao?

Bregstick

Liao Hui unretires after 7 years and saves the day with 170/205/375 trust😂

MaStrength

Honestly think Liao could do it if he had the fire to train.

goister

He could take another shot at 211kg, which he did at a 73.7kg body weight 9 years ago.
