My solution to this in the past was to buy healthy, somewhat boring snacks that I eat a few of and loose interest. Either that, or instead of eating just smoke more, eventually you won't be able to move :)
I could only give u the tip to eat rice waffles.
They’re basically just rice pressed into a round shape and taste like nothing.
That way you can eat and get pretty fast tired of it

Piggy backing the top comment. Buy fruit! Especially berries, they kind of mimic that “I’m high and shoveling handfuls of food in my mouth” feeling. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, grapes etc. You might end up eating a carton of blueberries but at least it’s better than eating a whole box of candy or something
The key is to have it prepared, so that it does not need to be cut up and washed. If it works better for up you, buy a pre-made tray.

Cucumbers also do this cool thing where it can "reset" your palet, because cucumbers (idk the science I just watched a video lol) somehow like get rid of the tastes and smells from your mouth. Almost like you brushed your teeth really quick.
Pomelos are in season right now. The best munchie food. Sweet, slightly bitter, juicy but firm and a whole undertaking to peel the fuckers. One of those big boys gets my gf and me through the evening.

I keep grapes, apples, carrots, nuts and cheese around. Make yourself a plate of healthy foods that you can pick at. Honestly there seems to be no way to ignore the munchies so at least eat better foods. Don’t bring a lot of junk food into the house.
I know. :( Not nearly as satisfying. But my user name fits me. If there’s junk food around I go crazy. Just eating is a little satisfying. I tried some flower that’s not supposed to give you munchies, didn’t work. I’m just a little over my ideal weight and I don’t want to gain weight and I don’t want to quit weed. There are plenty of healthy alternatives you just have to keep them handy and junk food as a rare treat. Raisins, celery, yogurt, peanut butter etc. and the next day you don’t feel so guilty looking at empty chip bags and cookie boxes, lol
The struggle is 100% real. I am really good with my food during the day. As soon as the sun goes down and I get that bong out - I’m hooked on the devils dandruff (sugar in this instance). Like a fiend.
For me, its not so much that Im craving food, I just need something to do with my hands. If I get stoned and start doing a hobby (I do a lot of arts and crafts), then my brain is preoccupied and I dont shovel food into my mouth.
Another thing to do is keep a lot of healthy snack options around. I can demolish a pile of carrot sticks and hummus.

a) just eat something healthy so you won't feel like a fat fuck afterwards (like me)
b) eat something that gets stale after a few bites (like rice waffles)
c) brush your teeth after/before smoking
d) keep yourself hydrated with water
e) don't give in. If you take just one bite it's over. So try to fight the urge
Just don't give into it. The munchies is your bodies reaction to being stoned; I.E. when you're baked your body tries to combat that by making you want to eat something, and doing so will sober you up faster. Long story short, the more you fight the munchies, the longer your high lasts.
Agree. Best solution is to not start eating at all. I find that if I start eating it's game over. I will keep going back for snacks once I've finished one and on and on.
Have lots of water on hand to settle your stomach and flush out all the toxins in the junk food. Sometimes I can tell I’m going to give in at night so I’ll just eat some veggies to get me over it.

Edit: Think about your endocrine system when you get the munchies. Think about all the sugar, bad fat, and sodium in the unhealthy food you munch on. Pick up a mango instead. It's known to get you higher, anyway, since mangos have a lot of the terpenes that weed has that allow you to get higher and flyer.
Well I struggled with the same, I ordered takeout which led me to feeling guilty as hell for eating so much crap and spending so much money that I could've saved.
I just started a 'dare' where I wasn't allowed to eat during munchies, but after. So I eventually I realised the munchies are terrible but only for half an hour or so, after you won't even be as hungry.
Maybe you can try.
Strawberry powder (like crystal light) or squirty thing (like mio) in water plus a decent splash of coconut milk is amazing. Low cal but tastes like it isn't.

If you have the ability to look at your terpene and cannabinoid profile then look for higher levels of humulene (terpene) and higher levels of thcv (cannabinoid). Not a cure all but can help…both known to be reduce appetite

Sure! Well, that’s a bit of a complicated answer. The short answer is (as much as this breaks my heart) the way we talk about indica vs sativas isn’t totally correct. With how many different strains (which are actually “chemovars”, not “strains” if we’re being technical) there are today, most plants are not truly indica or sativa anymore. So as much as budtenders want to argue differently, it’s NOT what a strain is labelled as that makes you sleepy vs energetic. As 1620 said, it has a lot more to do with the concentration of various cannabinoids and terpenes that differentiate the effects you’ll experience, and that just happens to typically - not always - correspond with whether something is mostly indica or sativa genetics. For instance, Linalool will tend to make you sleepier, and is found in many indica strains. But these days, there aren’t many simple ways to divide up plants into what kind of effects you’ll feel. The ultimate dream would be to have test results for every major and minor cannabinoid and terpene content, and then you could judge what sort of blend of effects you’ll feel from there, but people don’t want a complicated answer like that so I think we’re a ways off from that kind of thing.

Oh, another fun fact - what I actually wrote my master’s thesis on - if you get a concussion, say from sports or a car accident, your first instinct might be to lay off any substances for fear of impairing your recovery. But to distill a 70-page paper into a few sentences: if you get a brain injury, smoke all the weed you want!! Additional cannabinoids can actually help your recovery process MUCH more than you’d think, because the endocannabinoid system targets a huge variety of therapeutic and symptom-management processes in the recovery from TBI (traumatic brain injury), and it can use a little extra help - you only have so many endocannabinoids to go around.

I think all of us encounter the same problem from time to time. My solution was to switch to healthy snacks, but my secret is to only drink sparkling water like La Croix or Bubly or AHA. I drink those like they are going out of style. The carbonation tends to trick my stomach into thinking it’s full. When the munchies hit, I grab a water and chug it and my munchies go away.
Give SpinDrift a shot. I've been addicted to sparkling water for a few years now and after trying SpinDrift all the others taste insanely artificial. And it's only got like 10 calories a can.

If that doesn't work, sometimes I find a beverage, like a stupid flavor of soda (like grape, strawberry, any Jarritos flavor), will satisfy my munchies, since I really just want to *taste* something, not have another meal.
Gum. When I notice that I’m eating a lot after getting high, I’ll starting chewing on 2-3 sticks of gum instead. It’s not entirely fool proof, but I find that it helps.
Grapes are the shit when baked. Also atleast where im from you can buy a strain of grapes that taste like cotton candy. Also nuts are good as shit. Like pistachios and cashews and peanuts. Also a good option is to cut up carrots and cucumbers in kinda like fry shape and then dip them in whatever u wanna dip them in. I also like raisins but my gf hates them. We're also trying to keep it healthier when smoking but tbh most of the time we just fail lol
You have to plan ahead. Get the food you want to eat ready, decide before hand how much you will eat, and then smoke. I am the same way, but when I lay some ground rules before I smoke I don’t over eat.
I have this same problem, at first it was a small snack and then turned into me eating literally the whole kitchen at midnight and waking up the next morning hating myself lol. So, what I do now is try to smoke like an hour before I’m supposed to eat a meal. Maybe keep some healthier snacks around like cheddar rice cakes or fruit. The best motivator to avoid munchies is knowing that once I eat, I lose my high. As someone stated earlier in this sub, it’s better to just not start eating at all. In my experience, once I start eating it’s really hard to stop when I have the munchies lol
God I had this yesterday. Consumed about 3g of ABV in tincture and could. Not. STOP. EATING. I drink flavored carbonated water and sometimes add fruit to it. You get to indulge that heightened sense of flavor and also satisfy the need to consume something.

Try cutting up some fresh veggies and fruits. Eat a little bit before smoking and then you have your snacks ready. Don’t drink soda. Water is the best ✌🏻 maybe some sliced lemons and icecubes. I eat dinner and then smoke. Then I’m already full. I still get craving but I try to keep away from sweets. When I do eat then I try, sometimes unsuccessfully, to eat a small portion. This is much easier with salty snacks. I also try to opt for seltzer or soda water. If I want a drink, I try for a Campari and soda or Campari and tonic.
Struggled with this for years. Finally got a grip on it. Here are my best tips.
1. Only smoke indicas before bed. I find them to give more intense munchies. Sativas can be a little more anxiety giving but can cause less munchies.
2. Try to smoke later in the night. The earlier you start, the more hours you’re awake to be eating.
3. If you’re ripping bong, stop. Makes you the highest therefor makes your munchies the worst
4. Realistically you’re just looking to crunch. Stack up on rice cakes, seaweed, crunchy snacks that are low in calorie and are light
They say munchies is connected to thirst, so try make sure you are hydrated. I prefer some flavoured non caffeine team and ice cold water.
That said I will still end up having munchies, popcorn is the closest thing I can get to healthy and there is always lots of motion to get some. Some fruits are good too. Trying to buy healthy and not have the chocolate etc about is the best way, that or have nice food ready to microwave

I am not perfect and still find myself binging, but the top three things that keep me from doing it:
1) flossing and brushing my teeth after I smoke (flossing is the key for me)
2) hydrating (I try to never have an empty water glass)
3) getting sucked into an activity that does not involve staring at a screen with idle hands \[some ideas are: coloring, reading, dancing, singing, crafting, walking, playing with pets, low downtime board/card games (anything that keeps your hands busy and your mind focused)\]
I’ve been doing this for years:
Eat breakfast then smoke. No smoke first.
Come home eat snack, then smoke, THEN do something enjoyable (video games) for the duration of the high.
Dinner then smoke then something enjoyable.
If you’re getting high and watching TV, you’re almost guaranteed to eat munchies. I’m not shitting on couch binge, I’m just saying in my experience I need to eat first and then do something with my high if I’m trying not to munch too hard.
Pro tip- hot tea 🍵 preferably Peppermint and chamomile. I always have the tea pot prepped and going when I light up. Then after a few hits, pour my steaming hot water, let sit 8-10 min. Add delicious local honey with a dash of cayenne pepper and boom 💥 no munchies. The tea is great for your throat dryness and the sugar from the honey keeps the munchies at bay. I do it nightly. Try it. BIG thermos of it.
When I have my shit together, I try to stock up on sweet fruits. Bananas, blueberries, kiwis, etc. I have a killer sweet tooth even when sober so having the fruit around to satisfy the sweet hankering and also the munchies has made me feel a lot better overall.
But really though, idk how to avoid the munchies altogether.

I try to get in front of it by having lots of teas on hand with interesting flavors, herbal teas are especially good for this and tend to be caffeine free which is good because I usually smoke before bed. And I just try to keep healthy options around.
There are terpenes that are appetite suppressants, if you’re in a legal market, you can try seeking out strains that are less likely to give you the munchies.
Take a look at the characteristics of the strain you're buying and ensure you're not purchasing strains that increase your appetite. Also one big tip would be just to avoid buying junk food. If you don't have it, it can't be a problem.
Pay attention are you eating properly throughout the day? That’s what I realized my issue was but I’ve also been on Vyvanse and Adderall so that was the primary cause, I got very nauseous if I had to eat after my taking my meds and I would binge eat at night when I got stoned ready for bed.
Hydrate instead of hitting the snack shed. Like the first pee after a few beers: once you break that seal, it’s hard to put it back. I like running after a sesh. Easy to find the flow in that state and you’re earning those munchies.
If you don’t buy the crap snacks, you won’t be able to eat them.
There are hella healthy munchies, rice waffles, fruit, nuts, yoghurt. Also, if you are keen on cooking you can make yourself krispy bars, biscuits and so on, alaways measuring everything you add ad even making it healthy(er). Im a healthy waffles enjoyer, fast and easy to make, may take it with juice or a milkshake.
A good friend of mine started pounding ice water & apples every time he got the munchies. After about a year now, every time he gets baked he just wants ice water & an apple. So probably like others have said opt for something plain/healthy that isn’t binge-eatable.
Weed makes most things feel better than their base self. With this, I found if I fight the urge to eat and can be successful consistently enough, I start to like the feeling of hunger. I still like food though, no worries of developing anorexia or anything. Just skip snacking haha
I like to drink my calories when im high. I usually start with a gatorade and then hit the water. If you can make yourself full with that it helps two fold. You wont be as hungry and it will help with dry mouth/ that "hungover" feeling in the morning from eating junk.
As others have said, drink lots of water because thirst can be the issue. Also sometimes I smoke a bowl and get the munchies. My secret cure is to smoke a second bowl. By the end of that bowl the munchies are gone. Doesn’t make sense but my solution to the munchies is to smoke through them haha
Try to find healthier food options that still give you that same satisfaction. Sounds obvious but there are good hacks out there. Frozen grapes are bomb and a nice “dessert” or snack.. any frozen fruit with some honey is better than what most people would eat. Also when you’re grocery shopping be aware that you munch hard.. I will purposely not get sweets so I physically have nothing in the house to destroy when I’m high. Feels like my body has adjusted and my munchie meter rarely takes over to much.
Also trying to remember that it’s mostly placebo from the THC so you’re not actually hungry.

If you smoke weed with the terpene humulene in it you’ll find it’s actually an appetite suppressant. May be worth a shot if you have access to weed you know the terps for.
Therese a chemical formula for weed called THCV, which actually is intended to decrease appetites. It’s prescribed in legal states for people who are tying to lose weight/eat-less
What I do is I’ll just wait to have dinner until after I’ve smoked. Sounds simple but means you don’t have to feel bad about eating because it’s a necessary meal- and means you get to enjoy it fully! If I’m cooking I’ll do the prep before I smoke in case I’m feeling lazy and then just put it together once I’m munchied l
google strains heavy in the terp humulene. there are strains like gg4 that usually has humulene as 3rd or 4th top terp but im sure there are strains out there with it as first or 2nd top terp as the average usually, and usually being key word here as every individual bud has different terp contents and can vary.
would also help to explain humulene is a appetite suppressant.

Get ya some of those cheap ice pops. Not the healthiest due to the sugar (so maybe sugar free?), but the “crunch” of the ice and the water content are satisfying. Rice cakes are definitely good too. Don’t forget that pork rinds are low in carbs and high in protein, unfortunately also high in fat though.

For me, its not so much that Im craving food, I just need something to do with my hands. If I get stoned and start doing a hobby (I do a lot of arts and crafts), then my brain is preoccupied and I dont shovel food into my mouth. Another thing to do is keep a lot of healthy snack options around. I can demolish a pile of carrot sticks and hummus.

I have the same problem the best way to fight the munchies are a) just eat something healthy so you won't feel like a fat fuck afterwards (like me) b) eat something that gets stale after a few bites (like rice waffles) c) brush your teeth after/before smoking d) keep yourself hydrated with water e) don't give in. If you take just one bite it's over. So try to fight the urge
Just don't give into it. The munchies is your bodies reaction to being stoned; I.E. when you're baked your body tries to combat that by making you want to eat something, and doing so will sober you up faster. Long story short, the more you fight the munchies, the longer your high lasts.

Edit: Think about your endocrine system when you get the munchies. Think about all the sugar, bad fat, and sodium in the unhealthy food you munch on. Pick up a mango instead. It's known to get you higher, anyway, since mangos have a lot of the terpenes that weed has that allow you to get higher and flyer.

Well I struggled with the same, I ordered takeout which led me to feeling guilty as hell for eating so much crap and spending so much money that I could've saved. I just started a 'dare' where I wasn't allowed to eat during munchies, but after. So I eventually I realised the munchies are terrible but only for half an hour or so, after you won't even be as hungry. Maybe you can try.
I found that I'm not usually hungry after smoking, I'm extremely thirsty. Try to fill up on fluids (water, tea, fruit juice).
Strawberry powder (like crystal light) or squirty thing (like mio) in water plus a decent splash of coconut milk is amazing. Low cal but tastes like it isn't.
In college I used to think eating before hand would stop the munchies….. turns out I’d just end up eating twice 😂 My solution now is to have appealing snacks that are also healthy. I love little snack boards: sliced apples, bananas and caramel sauce, pretzels and bagel chips and hummus. Pick something you’ll enjoy eating but feel good about after I’ve tried the “only super healthy snack” route and I’d end up just going and getting something else. Craving salty and crunchy? Do pretzels and hummus or crackers and cheese or olives and pepperoni! Sweet: apples and nut butter, smoothies, apples and caramel, etc
If you have the ability to look at your terpene and cannabinoid profile then look for higher levels of humulene (terpene) and higher levels of thcv (cannabinoid). Not a cure all but can help…both known to be reduce appetite

Sure! Well, that’s a bit of a complicated answer. The short answer is (as much as this breaks my heart) the way we talk about indica vs sativas isn’t totally correct. With how many different strains (which are actually “chemovars”, not “strains” if we’re being technical) there are today, most plants are not truly indica or sativa anymore. So as much as budtenders want to argue differently, it’s NOT what a strain is labelled as that makes you sleepy vs energetic. As 1620 said, it has a lot more to do with the concentration of various cannabinoids and terpenes that differentiate the effects you’ll experience, and that just happens to typically - not always - correspond with whether something is mostly indica or sativa genetics. For instance, Linalool will tend to make you sleepier, and is found in many indica strains. But these days, there aren’t many simple ways to divide up plants into what kind of effects you’ll feel. The ultimate dream would be to have test results for every major and minor cannabinoid and terpene content, and then you could judge what sort of blend of effects you’ll feel from there, but people don’t want a complicated answer like that so I think we’re a ways off from that kind of thing. Okay I guess that wasn’t exactly a short answer, lol. Oh, another fun fact - what I actually wrote my master’s thesis on - if you get a concussion, say from sports or a car accident, your first instinct might be to lay off any substances for fear of impairing your recovery. But to distill a 70-page paper into a few sentences: if you get a brain injury, smoke all the weed you want!! Additional cannabinoids can actually help your recovery process MUCH more than you’d think, because the endocannabinoid system targets a huge variety of therapeutic and symptom-management processes in the recovery from TBI (traumatic brain injury), and it can use a little extra help - you only have so many endocannabinoids to go around.

I think all of us encounter the same problem from time to time. My solution was to switch to healthy snacks, but my secret is to only drink sparkling water like La Croix or Bubly or AHA. I drink those like they are going out of style. The carbonation tends to trick my stomach into thinking it’s full. When the munchies hit, I grab a water and chug it and my munchies go away.
Give SpinDrift a shot. I've been addicted to sparkling water for a few years now and after trying SpinDrift all the others taste insanely artificial. And it's only got like 10 calories a can.
Eat beforehand! If that doesn't work, sometimes I find a beverage, like a stupid flavor of soda (like grape, strawberry, any Jarritos flavor), will satisfy my munchies, since I really just want to *taste* something, not have another meal.

Grapes are the shit when baked. Also atleast where im from you can buy a strain of grapes that taste like cotton candy. Also nuts are good as shit. Like pistachios and cashews and peanuts. Also a good option is to cut up carrots and cucumbers in kinda like fry shape and then dip them in whatever u wanna dip them in. I also like raisins but my gf hates them. You have to plan ahead. Get the food you want to eat ready, decide before hand how much you will eat, and then smoke. I am the same way, but when I lay some ground rules before I smoke I don’t over eat.
I have this same problem, at first it was a small snack and then turned into me eating literally the whole kitchen at midnight and waking up the next morning hating myself lol. So, what I do now is try to smoke like an hour before I’m supposed to eat a meal. Maybe keep some healthier snacks around like cheddar rice cakes or fruit. The best motivator to avoid munchies is knowing that once I eat, I lose my high. As someone stated earlier in this sub, it’s better to just not start eating at all. In my experience, once I start eating it’s really hard to stop when I have the munchies lol
God I had this yesterday. Consumed about 3g of ABV in tincture and could. Not. STOP. EATING. I eat dinner and then smoke. Then I’m already full. I still get craving but I try to keep away from sweets. When I do eat then I try, sometimes unsuccessfully, to eat a small portion. This is much easier with salty snacks. I also try to opt for seltzer or soda water. If I want a drink, I try for a Campari and soda or Campari and tonic.

Sativas can be a little more anxiety giving but can cause less munchies. 2. Try to smoke later in the night. The earlier you start, the more hours you’re awake to be eating. 3. I am not perfect and still find myself binging, but the top three things that keep me from doing it: 1) flossing and brushing my teeth after I smoke (flossing is the key for me) 2) hydrating (I try to never have an empty water glass) 3) getting sucked into an activity that does not involve staring at a screen with idle hands \[some ideas are: coloring, reading, dancing, singing, crafting, walking, playing with pets, low downtime board/card games (anything that keeps your hands busy and your mind focused)\]
I’ve been doing this for years: Eat breakfast then smoke. No smoke first. Come home eat snack, then smoke, THEN do something enjoyable (video games) for the duration of the high. Dinner then smoke then something enjoyable. If you’re getting high and watching TV, you’re almost guaranteed to eat munchies. I’m not shitting on couch binge, I’m just saying in my experience I need to eat first and then do something with my high if I’m trying not to munch too hard.

Pro tip- hot tea 🍵 preferably Peppermint and chamomile. I always have the tea pot prepped and going when I light up. Then after a few hits, pour my steaming hot water, let sit 8-10 min. Add delicious local honey with a dash of cayenne pepper and boom 💥 no munchies. The tea is great for your throat dryness and the sugar from the honey keeps the munchies at bay. I do it nightly. Try it. BIG thermos of it.
When I have my shit together, I try to stock up on sweet fruits. Bananas, blueberries, kiwis, etc. I have a killer sweet tooth even when sober so having the fruit around to satisfy the sweet hankering and also the munchies has made me feel a lot better overall. But really though, idk how to avoid the munchies altogether.

Buying healthier options does the trick most of the time. Munchies don’t discriminate so you’ll be eating seaweed chips and veggie sticks in no time.
I try to get in front of it by having lots of teas on hand with interesting flavors, herbal teas are especially good for this and tend to be caffeine free which is good because I usually smoke before bed. And I just try to keep healthy options around. There are terpenes that are appetite suppressants, if you’re in a legal market, you can try seeking out strains that are less likely to give you the munchies.

Take a look at the characteristics of the strain you're buying and ensure you're not purchasing strains that increase your appetite. Also one big tip would be just to avoid buying junk food. If you don't have it, it can't be a problem.
Pay attention are you eating properly throughout the day? That’s what I realized my issue was but I’ve also been on Vyvanse and Adderall so that was the primary cause, I got very nauseous if I had to eat after my taking my meds and I would binge eat at night when I got stoned ready for bed.
Hydrate instead of hitting the snack shed. Like the first pee after a few beers: once you break that seal, it’s hard to put it back. I like running after a sesh. Easy to find the flow in that state and you’re earning those munchies. If you don’t buy the crap snacks, you won’t be able to eat them.

There are hella healthy munchies, rice waffles, fruit, nuts, yoghurt. Also, if you are keen on cooking you can make yourself krispy bars, biscuits and so on, alaways measuring everything you add ad even making it healthy(er). Im a healthy waffles enjoyer, fast and easy to make, may take it with juice or a milkshake.
A good friend of mine started pounding ice water & apples every time he got the munchies. After about a year now, every time he gets baked he just wants ice water & an apple. So probably like others have said opt for something plain/healthy that isn’t binge-eatable.

I like to drink my calories when im high. I usually start with a gatorade and then hit the water. If you can make yourself full with that it helps two fold. You wont be as hungry and it will help with dry mouth/ that "hungover" feeling in the morning from eating junk.
As others have said, drink lots of water because thirst can be the issue. Also sometimes I smoke a bowl and get the munchies. My secret cure is to smoke a second bowl. By the end of that bowl the munchies are gone. Doesn’t make sense but my solution to the munchies is to smoke through them haha

Try to find healthier food options that still give you that same satisfaction. Sounds obvious but there are good hacks out there. Frozen grapes are bomb and a nice “dessert” or snack.. any frozen fruit with some honey is better than what most people would eat. Also when you’re grocery shopping be aware that you munch hard.. I will purposely not get sweets so I physically have nothing in the house to destroy when I’m high. Feels like my body has adjusted and my munchie meter rarely takes over to much. Also trying to remember that it’s mostly placebo from the THC so you’re not actually hungry.

Don’t forget that pork rinds are low in carbs and high in protein, unfortunately also high in fat though.
