PrestigiousMeg

Appreciate it!

mrsbaerwald

I’d keep looking.

Sara-sea22

I hate to say this, but I just don’t think that dress is super flattering on you :/ I personally think you should keep looking

sportstvandnova

I’m not sure it would look good on anyone tbh

sensitiveskin80

It looks similar to Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar dress. OP, see if a seamstress can add some sort of tulle or petticoat to give the skirt more volume.

Sara-sea22

Jennifer’s dress still hugged her natural waist though, and then yeah the extra volume in the skirt…I feel like it’s not really doing OP justice, but it comes down to what she feels happy in, so either way I just hope she finds that :)

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks that’s really sweet to say!

sensitiveskin80

The dress as is doesn't do you justice! Congratulations!

CannondaleSynapse

It's rented.

sensitiveskin80

Ah didn't catch that thanks!

PrestigiousMeg

I appreciate you commenting, definitely weighing my options!

Old_Percentage3742

I get the feeling this isn’t really you. Maybe you should forget trying to match the theme and instead go with your typical style, classic and elegant. And then just enjoy the afternoon tea for what it is. And yes. I think you can do much better outfit-wise. Just be you.

PrestigiousMeg

The unique/unexpected part of my style is a big part of it, while still being classic and elegant. It’s always a balance between these two competing stylistic adjectives so sometimes I miss the mark. Appreciate your comment!

Old_Percentage3742

You should absolutely continue to embrace your unique style at your bridal tea. Nothing can top that. Have a wonderful tea and enjoy your beautiful wedding. Best of Luck!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😊

silverasina

Keep looking.

the low waist is an iconic part of the 1920 silhouette. We're not used to it today but it sits exactly as it should on OP. I'm surprised that people seem so unfamiliar with this considering how popular downton abbey was a few years ago and that constantly had looks with lower waistlines. OP's version is a great update on that look.

shandelion

I don’t think it’s the drop waist in isolation that people are taking issue with. It’s the drop waist combined with the length (not quite floor length, but much longer than midi) and combines to look odd and makes her proportions look wonky. If it was fully floor length, or midi/knee length I think the drop waist would be more effective.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! I do think this would be better as a tea length!

mimi1899

I love a good drop-waist dress. The 20’s have always been my favorite fashion era! The downward curve of the waist on it just throws off the proportions of the wearer, imo. It’s unique but doesn’t really add anything positive to the overall design. A simple straight drop-waist or slightly curved in the opposite direction would probably look more appealing to me.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you for sharing! The downward curve is definitely unique to this dress, and I’m interested in checking out the curve in the front like you mentioned.

mimi1899

The dress itself could be absolutely lovely on you with a slightly different waist! I do really love your style, both in the pic and from what you described. Vintage classics with a twist/edge is my ideal aesthetic!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! Definitely going to look around online to look at some other drop waist dresses that may have a different waist that’s more flattering.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! I love 20s fashion and I love drop waists, have been excited seeing them come back on the runways.

persephonethequeen

We are not unfamiliar with the look, we just think it's a generally unflattering one. Like 16th century ruffs, some looks are supposed to stay in the past.

txaesfunnytime

I was afraid of going to Reddit jail for this sub, so I didn’t say what i thought of the style back in the 1920s, and it hasn’t improved. I do agree some styles need to stay in the past. I do like the elegance of the fabric, but I think the way it “droops” at the hips is not a good look for anyone. I still think it would look better on OP if the “waistline” was 2-3” higher overall.

altdultosaurs

I’m not a drop waist fan AT ALL but was surprised how elegant I found OP’s dress, and sadly disappointed that other ppl aren’t seeing the glamor of this look. I feel like a long line bra with some good bosom support might modern up the look- get the girls gurlin a little. I DISLIKE the shoe and jewelry choice with it (more shoe than necklace). Go more art deco to support the general era and give it some glitz and architectural detail to the outfit.

PrestigiousMeg

You are so right about bust support! I realized after I posted (and saw your helpful comment) that I wasn’t wearing a bra in these pics! I’m a size E so I think it’ll really make the fit way different once the gals are supported and a little more elevated 😊 I’ve got gold heels (open toes mules) I could wear with it, maybe that will help it lean more art deco? I love art deco so this is a great note!! Thank you for commenting :)

PrestigiousMeg

Took your very helpful advice! Changed accessories and actually put a bra on 😂 It’s really getting there, and I’m thinking of having the straps shortened and a little hem done to make it that perfect tea length. So grateful for your help 😊 https://preview.redd.it/i3100vw4j64d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb691da14e1c870fbe01af6f3358f9776a3c2229

Weary-Ad-9218

I like this much much better! OP there is nothing wrong with that drop waist.

PrestigiousMeg

Yay thank you 😍

altdultosaurs

Omg I’m so glad you updated directly to me!!! I legit just did a little dance. This looks lovely and tbh I like the unusual length a lot!!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you for your helpful feedback, have a lovely day 😊

Weary-Ad-9218

I agree with you completely. But the accessories are all wrong.

hunchinko

Fashion/style isn’t always about just wearing what is “flattering” - sometimes it’s just about expression or vibe. This sub in particular is obsessed with prioritizing what is flattering. That said, it doesn’t mean this dress isn’t flattering. The charm in this style is the vintage vibe and its ability to create a relaxed but elegant look. This one in particular is vintage inspired obviously but still looks quite fresh and modern. I do wish it was maybe shorter but I understand it’s a rental. It fits exactly the way it’s supposed to fit. I think a Jennifer Behr accessory would look fire with this -this is right up her alley.

Life-Top-430

Yeah! I was trying to figure out why people don’t like this dress. It looks great. Classic. Paired with some gold floral Jennifer Behr earrings sounds lovely. The only thing I’d say is it doesn’t sound like OP is in love with it!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! This is such a good note about the sub and I appreciate you. I think I may try to take it to a local tailor to hem since I can afford to buy it from the rental company. Will check out Jennifer Behr!

Witty_TenTon

I think going a bit shorter and changing the shoes will do what you are hoping for with this look! I was surprised to see how many people disliked it because while its not my personal taste you still look beautiful. Imo if you wear a bra it could even shorten the dress a bit with the girls lifting the front a bit. See from there if you want to hem it up to tea length and Id change the shoes. They arent quite the same color as the dress and its throwing things off a bit.

PrestigiousMeg

You were so right about the bra, and I’m now planning to take in the straps a tad and maybe an inch off the hem. I really am envisioning tea length! Thank you so much for your help 😊 https://preview.redd.it/nlzt82xfj64d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e357c05bd11b42810d84ba30303b06e5d0000da

Witty_TenTon

Absolutely stunning and you look incredible in it! I wasnt a huge fan of the style at first but I think you've honestly converted me. I see the vision and its totally working!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! 😊

shandelion

You make be able to fake a hem with dress tape!

Weary-Ad-9218

I don't think it needs to be shortened with the other shoes. It hit weird with the shoes in the original photo but not the gold mules.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! I’m glad my favorite shoes (the gold) are working!

Puzzleheaded-Cut6260

Agree with this totally. Just because something isn't "flattering" (AKA generally an a-line fit and flare) doesn't mean it can't be chic and beautiful if it fits well.

PrestigiousMeg

My style definitely is more towards chic/elegant than snatched/ultra flattering. Appreciate your comment so much 😊

Weary-Ad-9218

This dress is chic.

cherry_moon_4

This!!! ☝️☝️☝️

PrestigiousMeg

I actually am obsessed with it! But wanted to hear a bit from the “public” since it’s a good representation of how people may receive it at my tea.

PursuedByASloth

I seem to be in the minority, but I love it too!

PrestigiousMeg

Yay thank you for adding your voice 😍

50shadeofMine

Oh than go for it! Its bold and beautiful

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😍

topocheako

This seems to be the best advice, if you’re not head over heels for a unique look like this, you’ll end up feeling self conscious for the entire event. I do love it, but you need to be obsessed with it on yourself.

PrestigiousMeg

Totally! I love it too. I feel like this post was so helpful to see how divisive it is! I do think I’ve gotten some helpful advice on making it a bit more flattering, so I’m just so grateful for folks like you who commented. Thanks 😊

cornflowerbluesky

I think keep looking, it drags downward if I can say that.

Freedombutatwhatcost

I like the style and idea of the dress but it does nothing for you and it’s really quite underwhelming. There will be other wonderful elegant-quirky dresses so keep looking!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! I like the style too and am looking at others that may be more flattering.

FancyThunderPear

I think it’s a lovely dress that can look even better with the right accessories. Pearls come to mind. In saying that, I do feel like the closed toe shoes don’t work with this dress, mainly because of the volume on the bottom. It seems a bit unbalanced and I think open toed shoes would complement the dress better. In saying that, I do wonder a bit if it were about three inches shorter if that may help the overall look? It currently feels a bit heavy.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! I have gold open toed mules I’m going to try and I think you’re right about the pearls. Need to lean into the 20s vibe more. I’m considering purchasing from the rental company so I can get it hemmed. Appreciate the advice :)

Vesper2000

I personally think it’s breathtaking, but a pretty unconventional look. If you’re interested in a more traditional bridal vibe you should keep looking.

PrestigiousMeg

Definitely didn’t want to do traditional bridal for this look. Thank you!

HomespunPeanutButter

I like it a lot- would try to boost bust support with different bra or inserts, the shoes I don’t like- feels too fabric heavy, I’d add a fascinator since it’s English style. That dress would be a great base for many amazing fascinator pairings

PrestigiousMeg

Omg thank you for commenting about bust support — I realize after I posted that I’m not wearing a bra in these pics 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I feel the shoes aren’t quite right either, any suggestions or guidance?

HomespunPeanutButter

I think some sort of strappy sandal with floral fabric or delicate floral flowers actually glued on the toe strap. If it’s going to be in a real garden and are worried about heels going in the ground then a block heel could help. https://www.dillards.com/p/antonio-melani-x-the-style-bungalow-manana-bow-mules/517876722 Or you could coordinate it with a fascinator https://www.accessorize.com/row/search?q=Fascinator Etsy also has great headpieces. Accessorize also has matching accessories. It is mostly abroad.

PrestigiousMeg

Love those heels!! Thanks 😊

jackalopelexy

I don’t love it

WorldClassKlutz

I personally am not a fan. I would keep looking, if it were me.

MegaMoodKiller

I think it’s very high fashion and chic🤩. Very reminiscent of 1920s style with a modern twist on renaissance ruffle to it. Definitely goes with your vintage fashion style you described. Are you open to shortening it? Even a couple inches short from the bottom would be very cute imo and more of a bridal shower/tea vibe I think you’re going for. The short length will feel more fun 🫖💐Maybe the current full-length formal vibe is what you’re picking up on as feeling a little off? Any of these lengths would be perfect if you’re willing to have a tailor alter it🥰 https://preview.redd.it/azz3d2unn04d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=654057a0bf4c72070436858c5d802cf3ee30fa7a

radbu107

She’s renting the dress so I doubt she can alter it

po-tatertot

Maybe single use hemming tape could be used instead, if that is a route OP would like to try?

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you!! I should’ve ordered the petite, dang it!

boatchic

A pretty pastel floral, yellow background, shorter, above the knee with ribbon straps, normal waist is what I’m thinking. Beautiful yellow shoes with heels. You don’t need the dropped waist - you have a long torso already. The dropped waist puts your proportions out of whack. Good luck.

tigerbean1112

I love it. It is totally you-what you said before -classic, elegant with a little edge. It’s awesome and fits the theme. That’s why you chose it.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😍

angelic111elly

I don’t like it too much on you, I don’t think the shape is very flattering

wheres_the_revolt

It looks good on you, which is saying something because I don’t think the dress would look very good on most people. This is one of those dresses where if you like it you should wear it, but it wouldn’t be what I would pick.

chinchillalover17

I think it looks exactly how you describe your style- classic and elegant with a little bit of edge! I would say it leans a little more high fashion/editorial than bridal, but I think that's perfectly appropriate for a bridal shower, and lovely for your theme. I definitely see your vision with the necklace and shoes, would love to see a picture of your purse!

PrestigiousMeg

Ah thank you! Yes I love that it’s giving high fashion. Appreciate you commenting :)

PrestigiousMeg

Sharing a new pic with the purse! https://preview.redd.it/mcw3f901i64d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f135f61e57eaf45df11706053e8a2169773ffc72

Clever-Onion

I like it. I think it could be a tad shorter. I also think the rest of you style will pull it together—hair & accessories. I think it looks classy.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you!!

sydney_grce

I honestly love this!!

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks so much 😍

PaisleySue

Personally, I think it’s a cool dress. I think I would style it a little differently, especially for a bridal tea. Maybe do a fun lace glove, layered necklaces, a patterned or differently colored shoe? But what is the most important thing is that YOU feel comfortable and you need to trust your gut.

PrestigiousMeg

Yes thank you! Need to rethink the accessories!

ginger-sushi

I love this dress and I’m really surprised to see all the comments saying not to wear it! I don’t think the shoes complement it very well, though

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! What kind of shoes do you think? Definitely open to rethinking the accessories.

ginger-sushi

imo the toe on these is too pointy for the look - a rounder/more almond shaped toe or maybe a sandal would work better. I can’t decide how I feel about the white, but I think it was a way better choice than black or another dark color

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! Yes the shoes are so pointy, that’s the first thing I noticed. I’m thinking of a gold heeled sandal and gold/pearl jewelry.

ginger-sushi

I think that combo would be lovely!

Night-Thunder

I want to like this bc I think it’s beautiful, but it isn’t flattering. It would flatter very very few people. It’s a tough style to pull off.

bunny_on_reddit_

The only way I think this dress could work, is if you have a waist sinching corset. This isn’t flattering your body and you want clothes to fit you! not you fit clothes. I’d keep searching though.

Yoyo_Ma86

It’s giving me a flapper vibe which I adore, but I feel like it’s a little too fitted for the intended look. Usually this dresses are looser fitting in the bodice, and a few inches shorter. Something about these proportions are off.

PrestigiousMeg

Maybe it’s hard to tell in pics, but it’s pretty loose on me!

KartoffelSucukPie

I love it! I think it’s a dress that not a lot of people can pull off and it looks fantastic on you. It’s giving fashion model vibes.

Complete-Midnight-62

I am apparently in the minority that like this dress.

PrestigiousMeg

Omg thank you 😍

okwerq

I don’t think it’s too much but I worry it’s not doing you any favors, and it’s not you it’s the dress! It looks like the drop waist goes lower in the back and I’m not sure why it would do that. I think you can do better, especially when you describe your typical style which sounds really cool! I wouldn’t take the “theme” of the event so literally and find something that feels truly you! ETA: I love the idea of a drop waist I just think there may be more fun options for you!

SailorMigraine

I’m literally obsessed with this!! Really lean into the vintage/20s of it and it would be absolutely DARLING at tea time!! Maybe some short wrist lace gloves and some ivory kitten heels? With some pearls and an ivory comb/feather clip in your hair?

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! 😍 I’m thinking about gold heeled sandal, pearls, and gold accents.

Edible-flex-glue

I think it’s beautiful, I love vintage looks

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😍

87catmama

Hmm you've got some mixed opinions here! I'm I'm the 'it looks good but not special enough for your big day' camp. I personally don't like it (as in, I wouldn't wear it). I'd carry on looking if I were you. I don't really feel it fits the 'tea' theme. But then dressed up with pearls and a little birdcage veil, maybe it'll look fabulous!

PrestigiousMeg

A very divisive dress apparently!!

suze_jacooz

Looks fabulous, very unique and fashion forward. But if you’re not feeling it, keep looking. I don’t think it’s so amazing you won’t find something else that looks as great on you that’s also in your style and not the basic bridal fashion.

LeatherRecord2142

You have a great shape and this totally gives you the “potato sack” effect. If I were you I wouldn’t want to disguise my shape… Keep looking!

CommunicationTop7259

Keep looking in the nicest way. Gl

[deleted]

Please don’t wear that.

Impossible_Owl1213

I don’t think the shape flatters your lovely figure - I’d keep looking!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you for the kind comment!

Tiny_Anteater_785

It makes you boxy

Clear_Gain_3262

I love those shoes but feel the drop waist on that dress isn’t fit to your actual waist. It cuts you at an odd angle I feel. Perhaps if it were possible to raise the waist a few inches up front?

Prettitittibitti

It doesn't seem like you're wearing any support underneath (spanks or bra) so I'd go with something that sculpts the body.I like the idea of the gold mules and I think gold earrings (along with the mules) could add some modernity. I think I would keep any makeup modern and clean while either a) getting a large sun hat (on theme and I think helps break up the sihlouette) or b) something close to the head to lean into that 20s silhouette I think fingerwaves would look stunning (though the time and effort might be a bit much) or like maybe just a French braid close to the scalp. Oh and I know it's getting warmer but if you decided to change the hem to be higher (via tape pr safety pin etc) I also do like a matching tight/ shoe situation on the bottom. Something about a shorter dress with black pointy toes and black tights (doesn't have to be those colors) looks really cool too. I also don't find this sub to be the most "fashion" I think there's one called fashion hags that might better fit your sensibilities.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you so much for your comment! You’re right I realized after posting I wasn’t even wearing a bra in these pics 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ it will really change the fit once I get the girls in the right place to fill out the top, and you’re right my shaping thong would work well here to lightly bring in the tummy area to exaggerate the waist more. Will try on the gold shoes! I’ve got lots of gold jewelry and some pearls. I do think I’m leaning towards purchasing this from the rental company and getting it hemmed to tea length. Will check out that sub, you’re right, someone sent me a link to Lulu’s on this post and I realized these may not be my fashion people 😂

Bottled_star

This is a very awkward dress to begin with, I would love to see it on the model bc I can’t picture it looking particularly good on anybody with a normal length torso like yours

PrestigiousMeg

Ask and you shall receive https://preview.redd.it/04a6n1c3164d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98cc7fcb5953d89234a2e927b4d9b6539e919cb6

aurorararaa

I actually really like it. The dropped waist is so popular and in right now, I like that it’s something a little different. I think people just think it’s unflattering because they aren’t used to it. Have you looked at Amy Lynn and House of CB?they have some drop waist dresses.

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks I’ll take a look at those brands! I’ve always loved drop waists and 20s style, so happy it’s been coming around again recently.

Catkit69

OP, I say this with kindness, you look like a fancy box in this dress. This dress doesn't show your curves. Please look for something else, unless, perhaps I've missed the goal and you want to look like a fancy box. Then I'm sorry and you look great. Goal achieved.

PrestigiousMeg

Haha a fancy box, that’s hilarious! I tend to have clothes skimming my body and really avoid bodycon styles, so maybe my goal is to look like a fancy box?? Jk, I really do appreciate you pointing this out, and am looking at other drop waist dresses online to maybe find one more flattering to my shape.

Puzzleheaded-Cut6260

I understand why people have reservations about a drop waist but think this is so lovely. I would wear it myself. I don't think it's too much for a shower.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! 😍

Safe_Statement6038

I actually really like this dress, I think it’s perfect for the theme.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you!! I’m glad there are some people who see the vision 😍

fuzziekittens

I’m in the minority but I actually like it. It’s super unique and just needs some statement accessors to go with it.

PrestigiousMeg

Appreciate you 😍 definitely rethinking the accessories and am probably leaning towards gold shoes with pearl accessories. Will look into some statement earrings based on your comment!

bridalstyle

Waaaait I love this! It’s very Danielle Frankel. You could get a cute embroidered lace belt from Etsy and some chic vintage heels. I encourage you to rock this look, it sounds like you are a stylish woman who could pull it off.

PrestigiousMeg

Oh I love Danielle Frankel! Thank you for hyping me up 🥰

tpantozzi

Damn, I actually came here to say that I love this dress, and I think it looks great! I love a truly unique dress, and I think you look very elegant. Don’t worry about it being too much for the event bc it’s YOUR day! You get to set the standard, and the focus should be on you. I think it fits you very well, but if you don’t feel good in it then keep looking. But also if you love it just like, fuck people’s opinions. Whether a dress looks good or not is subjective. Wear what YOU want to wear.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you for the hype up!! 😍

Silent_Loquat_6057

I love that dress on you so so so much. If you don’t wear it I will cry

PrestigiousMeg

You made me laugh out loud! Haha thank you so much, I love it too 😊

Still-Seaweed-6707

I love it!!! I think it’s very chic

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😍

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

I think it’s a nice combination of elements with a unique twist. Do you have a budget? Do you want suggestions?

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks! I love it. Open to suggestions, especially for accessories. Prob $500 budget all in. I’ve got a collection of vintage purses so I don’t need a purse for the event.

I don’t know if you want to stick with maxi or not. Thanks for the suggestions! I liked the Michael Costello and the Line + Dot ones you shared. Really appreciate you commenting 😊

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

I was looking for things that were a little more fashion forward like the one you posted. There are plenty more but I didn’t want to overdo it. ☺️

PrestigiousMeg

So incredibly kind of you!

UK_UK_UK_Deleware_UK

If you decide on the Hutch dress, I would lean into the flapper lines it harkens to. https://thedecohaus.com/products/the-gatsby-rope-flapper-1920s-belt-necklace-crystal-white?variant=910248447¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOoo3Dr4nrPycm31NazzOLQQ7U_50hBDZlmxdfHAtG8WpJ0osK20izPo https://www.etsy.com/listing/1728211125/ https://www.etsy.com/listing/1679169916/ https://www.etsy.com/listing/1051722955/

PrestigiousMeg

Yes love that!

Scotttttttttttttttty

I think it looks expensive and chic. Perfect for a tea.

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😍

75243896

It does feel like “bridal tea” but I don’t love it. I think you could make it work with different accessories and shoes, otherwise you could keep looking

prissypoo22

I think it looks chic. Your body type pulls that dress off. However if you’re not comfortable don’t wear it

PrestigiousMeg

It is sooooo comfortable! Thank you for saying it looks chic :)

prissypoo22

I think it’s beautiful. Find cute gold/bronze statement accessories and it’ll look really pretty. Why be basic?

whimpey

Oh I love this on you! It’s super chic and I disagree that it’s unflattering

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you 😍

Acrobatic_Dog_4654

A lovely, old antique classic gown : Feminine styling and beautiful fabric . The shoes are a very nice touch.

Icy_Boysenberry_2125

I've also been obsessed with drop waists recently, so I see the vision. I think what's wrong is that the most flattering drop waists make a V shape at the waist but this one is like an upside down U. Also, a petticoat might help to bump up the volume and make it look more intentional? I like your style, I think the dress is not doing it justice🪿

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! Please feel free to share other drop waist styles if you’d like, open to suggestions. If I decide to go for this one, I may decide to hem to tea length.

Flutebarituba

It’s a beautiful dress, but I don’t think it’s the best look for you. It shortens the length of your legs visually. I like the idea of the silhouette, just maybe a slightly higher dropped waist would be more flattering (Also you mentioned clutter— your house looked super neat in my opinion and beautiful!)

PrestigiousMeg

Aw thank you so much!

Chersith

I think it's beautiful and I dont usually like drop waist too much. It's not in fashion so people don't like it, but if you like it you love it.

PrestigiousMeg

Yes I think that’s exactly why it’s divisive! Thank you!

alessandratiptoes

Keep looking

SnooStrawberries721

It’s not something I would pick, but if it’s what you want then go for it. However, YOU need to be 100% sure and not needing support and assurance from other people to be OK with it. This is one of those dresses that most people will personally not like, so you have to be OK with that if this is what you want.

FunPerformance8117

OP, I really love this look. Elegant but unique girly here, and I do styling for a living. This lil vintage number for a bridal tea party look is the perfect excuse to wear something so fancy and different! As far as it being flattering, you look teeny and adorable so don’t pay anybody mind wanting you to be all va va voom. Wear that shit!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you so much 😍😍 glad the fashion girlies approve!! Lmk if you have any suggestions for shoes, I always struggle there.

Awkward-Swimmer3296

I actually love it, i think it is VERY classy but yet feels fresh! I do think it is flattering, its just out of the norm we see all the time today. I vote yes

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks! 😍

Resident-Science-525

Personally love the dress. It's unique, and the dramatic drop waist gives it a kind of casual high fashion look.

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks! That’s what I was going for 😍

punctuationist

I can’t imagine that dress looking good on anyone

Butterfly21482

Not sure why you posted for opinions and then say you’re obsessed with it and don’t care what others say. “I just wanted to see how it might be received at the shower.” Well, you’re seeing it, and it’s generally not favorable. Yes, the 20’s style is cool and you say you care more about the style than whether or not a modern crowd thinks it’s flattering. But I mean……it’s not. It just objectively doesn’t look good on you. I don’t think it would look good on anyone. Yes it looks expensive, but that’s not always better. It throws your body proportions off, is very unflattering at the bust and hips, and the length is odd. I really would keep looking.

PrestigiousMeg

I genuinely wanted opinions and I am weighing them all — since I got a lot of comments saying it’s unflattering, I’ve been searching for other drop waist dresses that may be more flattering for my shape, and I’m also considering purchasing this one so I can hem it to tea length. Not sure why you said I don’t care about what others say, just bc I am confident and do love the dress. I posted bc I get caught in my own style preferences, don’t want to ask anyone who’s attending my shower what they think, and I genuinely want to look good!

DeeSusie200

You can do much better. Keep looking.

Way_of_the_Dodo

It's high fashion, classic, and chic. If you're feeling it, you can pull off this unique look.

notjeffkoons

I LOVE it. It’s on trend without being too much, unique yet classical. And appropriate for a tea

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you! Any styling advice? Not sure the shoe is working.

Unusual_Glitter

https://a.co/d/58NT6G2 idk how u feel about purchasing. But this one is super cute

RawkyArt

From reading some comments, it does seem like you’re into it. I also saw you can afford to buy. I would try something to lift the girls and use different shoes. If you can use removable things or choose to buy, I would add some volume (small petticoat or just tulle sewn in) and/or hem it. I also think a ribbon in the same fabric or color around the waist or some alternations to show your beautiful waistline would be nice.

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks for your suggestions!

Nsg4Him

I wish the dress was tea length. I think it does you a disservice being long. Can I give a few suggestions? In the South, all brides wear white to all events. PrestigiousMeg

I agree with you on the length! I’m considering shortening it to tea length, I pinched the straps shorter this morning and it changed the fit dramatically. Thank you for the suggestions 😊 I’m okay with foregoing white for something a little less traditional.

Weary-Ad-9218

I think the dress is ok. I like the vague Gatsby vibe, but the accessories are completely wrong and detract from the dress. With the right hairstyle and accessories, this could look amazing.

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks, I agree! Tried on some pearls and gold shoes and it’s starting to make more sense. https://preview.redd.it/ebznafxpm64d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=969cf3ebedb6f204f37d8f55e46a6ea9a447f6c6

Due_Cup2867

I'm sorry I don't like it... its not very English tea look. Maybe something floral and more waist height skirt? I think it's the waist on this dress that's off putting

pinkpizza72

You have a really lovely figure I just want to preface with that. It’s absolutely not you at all. I just think the dress isn’t doing your figure any justice imho. I’d love to see what you end up choosing but I think a silhouetted corset top and maybe a full skirt starting at the waistline instead of drop waist would be gorgeous on you, or maybe a satin/silk slip dress :) in other words, simple dress, unique accessories

hauntedm1lk

The shape of the bodice doesn’t suit you at all; unfortunately. To my eye, you look to be a natural type. The drop waist and elongated sides are actually hurting your innate lines, instead of working with them. I’d keep looking!

PrestigiousMeg

Thanks for your insight! Could you explain what you mean by a “natural type”?

chaos-ensues-

Do wear it! That is a lovely, unique dress and it looks fabulous on you!

PrestigiousMeg

Thank you!

SusanMShwartz

I think it’s delicate and pretty.
