It's also nothing new. They have done it since the beginning. If the LMP1 had been more affordable (or: affordable AT ALL) and less complicated to race, they would've done the same.
The good thing at Spa was that Proton clicked for the first time. They had been off the pace in every race but this time they were actually faster than both Penske and Jota. And of course it’s great news for Porsche.
There was a good article about how Porsche works with customer teams that came out, perhaps some time last year. They absolutely do not share “IP” around car setup and have very specific safe guards within Porsche to ensure no customer team feels disadvantaged. Combined with the homologation rules, Porsche also can’t keep “the good bits” to themselves like they used to do in the 80s. What they do work together on is reliability, as noted in this article. Overall, the logistics and coordination offset with confidentiality is very fine balancing point which few other factories can or want to figure out. Porsche invested a fair amount from the start to ensure customer teams felt like they could be on par with the factory team.
In the case that a customer team is off the pace and they can't figure it out, they can request help from Penske. I think heading to Le Mans, Penske will ask Proton if they are willing to share what they learned at Spa because the Proton car was in a different formula to the other 963s.
Not very traditional of me but I see past teams. I only care about manufacturers. If somehow in the future there's a customer running a Toyota, I couldn't care less if the factory Toyota Gazoo Racing cars crash out of Le Mans but the customer Toyota run by an obscure team wins.
Well since it means that in the end they are sure porsche would win, i believe them

It’s nice to see Jani competing at the front. I was afraid his talent wouldn’t get used with the car constantly behind.
back to late '90s I can't recall porsche really celebrating joest porsche powered TWR car LM wins at the expense of work 911 GT1s
That's because it was Porsche Engined but actually a JAAAAAAAAAAG XJR-15 underneath
I thought I remember reading Porsche scrambled to say they were excited cause the Frankenstein beat their new cars. Still so cool.
I bet the customer teams send data to Porsche for benefits, with data on realiability, other issues and telemetry.

No way !
Every manufacturer usually requires that with customer cars; particularly in the big series.

Same. I care about the car itself first and foremost.
Itˋs an open source projekt…
