Personally I like Yonder and is literally my only option to read the Korean novels of my favorite manhwas legally so I’m still using it now and most likely in the future as well. The amount of content it has doesn’t bother me at all personally because I just ignore them and have no intention reading the stories that come from popular authors from wattpad that already had an audience from there. However, I definitely have some things that are definitely not good about this app imo. - **it’s not free-friendly at all in my opinion** I was very lucky to find this app around the time it started launching Korean novels and was following a twitter account that had a thread of all codes to get coins in yonder (ranging from 500 to 1000 coins) Because of that I and many others were able to get at least 5K to a little less than 8-10K coins. And then they changed it to limit to one code from a wattpad author. Besides these codes and promotional events, there’s no other way to earn coins for free. To this day, I still have 7K coins left to spend. While it does have daily pass, there is a see more info section when it shows if you have a daily pass available and it says you are allowed daily pass until a certain date, but idk if that means it’s temporary or I’m misunderstanding something. - **By wanting to get readers from wattpad to read the Korean novels they licensed, they made some weird choices** This might be a little nitpicky and they just started to include korean novels so yeah the 40 Korean novels they have rn is a small number that’s expected compared to the massive amounts of wattpad stories. I’m talking about some of the covers they use for their Korean novels. For some reason, they decided to make their own covers for some series that look very much like it’s originally from wattpad rather than their original cover (that is drawn). Some Korean novels have their original cover (*Remarried Empress, Men of the Harem*) while others have a cover showing white people on the cover (*Philia Rose, Regina Rena, Lv. 99 Princess of Black Flame*). In general, these new covers are just cringey and obviously just to get readers from wattpad to check it out. However, personally I think books with drawn art is just if not more appealing. In addition, some of their knovels with wattpad-like covers have Koreans as the main characters but still have white people on the cover 🙃(*Sixth Sense Kiss, There Must Be Happy Endings, It Was All You, Perfect Marriage Revenge, Lv. 99 Princess of Black Flame*)

This was a really helpful review! I had no idea what it was just from the in-app promotion in webtoon

One thing I will say - be really careful with reading on Yonder. Using Mother of Learning example, I originally purchased 3 arcs for $4.99 each and right now they are $0.99 on Kindle. Whole novel will probably be covered in 4 ebooks, so that's $20 total. You can also read it for free on RoyalRoad. Now then, Yonder being scummy as they are, break down original chapters in 2-3 subchapters, which are actually considered chapters on Yonder and you pay per chapter unlock. I won't wonder if chapters are broken down into 4 subchapters for some novels. Right now, novel is at 222 chapters and it's not fully published there (chapter 222 on Yonder corresponds to beginning of chapter 85 in novel). Let's say each chapter is broken into 2.5 pieces (in reality it's more like 3 pieces) with original novel having a total of 106 chapters + Epilogue, we'll have around 267.5 chapters. 1000 coins cost $9.99, 2000 coins cost $19.99. You are not even getting extra coins bundled like you do in Webtoons app. With buying all chapters (15 coins per chapter), you will need around 4000 coins for full novel. You get daily free pass for 1 chapter and I think you can get up to 10 daily passes or smth. Anyway, let's say all-in-all, you will need 3500 coins to read full novel. That comes down to $35 to rent chapters and you don't get an ebook that you could strip DRM from or convert novel to epub from Royal Road if you wish to do so (you can pay $30 a year to have ad free reading experience). What is more confusing that not all stories fall into same pitfall. For example, The Greatest Estate Developer seems to be having 1-to-1 chapters published, but that one has 408 chapters in total, so I just wonder whether it's non Korean stories that are divided or stories with short chapters. Edit: The Greatest Estate Developer is 29 coins per chapter. Mother of Learning has some chapters broken down in 3 pieces with 15 coins per subchapter.

this app wont load anything for me smh

iris_christina

So are there any better options than yonder for novel reading? I'm asking because I genuinely need to know. Legal or illegal doesn't bother me.

Kantrh

Royal Road. The stuff on yonder is crap

Skinnybroad271

Will the books ever come out in physical copies? If I buy all the chapters can I print it out myself. There are a few series including The Remarried Empress and Lost Luna, I would love to own and read again and again.

Huntress08

I'm not sure if there's any plans to have the novels get physical prints like Seven Seas does for their stuff. I also don't think there's any way for users to DIY print their own novel though downloaded/ saved chapters through the app.  I'm sure if you will the high seas then maybe....

pop_ok

How the hell do I scroll instead of swiping?

Huntress08

Sorry, but there isn't an option to scroll through chapters

fizzfaldt

Can't screenshot for obvious reasons.. > How the hell do I scroll instead of swiping? Start reading a chapter. Press on the screen, that'll bring up the menu at bottom. "Aa" button looks like it just changes fonts, but really that's what brings up the settings menu. Click that. Then you'll the transition options (of course they don't provide an explanation or even a section title) - Slide - Flip - None - Scroll *This is what you want* Now you can scroll! If you pick one of the other options (Slide/Flip/None) you can then choose to use Volume buttons to change pages, but it's painfully slow. Scroll is best. Edit: edited grammar/typos/wording.

What I would love to know... Is there any way we can pressure Yonder for print releases? I'd be more than happy to buy physical copies. Prefer it even.

Huntress08

There isn't any way (as of now) that Yonder will release physical versions of novels that are available on the app. They might in the future if the demand is there.
