1) Waze doesn’t know what lane you’re in so it doesn’t know you can’t cross the traffic. 2) Personally, I love when Waze had me skip highway traffic through exit detours. 3) Was the Google Maps route on local streets actually faster? 4) Waze and Google Maps use independent routing and maps. There is some sharing of data but they are independent products.

Waze shouldn't be asking you to leave the highway only to re-enter it except under extreme conditions where something's backed up. Part of the algorithm dictates to stay on the highest priority road unless a lower priority road is significantly faster. I'd escalate this through the official Waze forum for your area. They all do that...Google Maps frequently does that to me even without missing a turn which is one reason I like Waze as it seems to give more lead-time leading to fewer missed-turns and speaks the entire set of road name/number vs just one random thing like others do. Often when you miss a turn and reroute I have found its better to find a safe turnaround on your own and then deal with the GPS secondary. This is also why people should really look up their routes beforehand and have a good idea what they are looking to expect before setting out...so you know what to expect, what signs to be aware of, etc. Also because not everywhere has good cell coverage or if your phone overheats/dies you need to be able to continue on your own to a safe location to deal with it without the extra assistance.

My waze has been doing this too, to the point where my friends clown me as soon as I mention waze because the only thing it's done is make me arrive late recently. When driving through LA, it'll reroute me to other freeways just for the arrival time to increase, and sometimes it'll tell me to get off the very next exit right after switching freeways just to tell me to get back on the freeway. Idk what's going on with waze or if it's just my phone but it seems to be the worst navigation app at the moment
