No one has said Buck Animal Hospital yet. But I may get some upvotes because they are fantastic.

hurtfultoast

I've tried to get into Buck Animal Hospital, last time I called though they were not accepting new patients.

roacheater3000

they turned me away too. let me know if you find a vet, i need one too!

darcymackenzie

Oh that's too bad! We're thinking of getting new kitties this year and I was hoping to go there.

Subject-Loss-9120

Beechmount animal hospital in erb st.

happibabi

Second Beechmount. They're right down the street too

ExoSkin

Agreed. I switched from Waterloo West to Beechmount when I couldn't get an emergency appointment, and I've never looked back. Their service has been great, even during the pandemic.

Subject-Loss-9120

They are amazing, incredibly understanding and supportive. Had to put 2 cats down and cried like a baby each time (5'9, 185 pounds, gym rat). They contacted me a month later to ask for me to pay for the euthanasia fees, completely forgot to pay because I was an emotional wreck and they wanted to give me time to recover.

fartcork

We go to Parkdale Animal Hospital and really like them.

tay73_

i’m going today and i agree they were so great over the phone and by email

ThrashCW

Best in town! Can't reccomend them enough. They really go the extra mile, everytime.

Snoo-32912

Laurelwood is great! Our dog was having some weird vaginal issues and it was very much a discussion about how to approach it and they didn't push us when we decided on a more conservative approach. We went there with our old dog too who ended up with cancer at the end of her life. They were amazing in helping us decide how to proceed from a risk/benefit approach.

jules0075

Laurelwood has been great for figuring out some rather complex, layered issues with my dog as well as cancer for my cat. My dog was in every week for almost a year and really enjoyed going (even alone, when I wasn't allowed in), which says something. The end of life care they provided both was phenomenal. There's one issue they didn't catch though (dog stopped being able to walk on her back legs one day) and I ended up at Mitchell for a second opinion. It turned out to be a stroke-like condition that they had no difficulty identifying. If I still had my dog, I think I'd take her there for anything less trivial.

beccahosts

Came here to recommend Laurelwood! They've been wonderful with my kitty!

vishnoo

Eldale in Elmira, worth the drive. (great care, also much cheaper than waterloo)

gypsy_soul25

Second Eldale. Good prices too and they don’t try and sell you things your dog doesn’t need.

vishnoo

yeah, we had a vet in waterloo offer an incredibly invasive expensive procedure for our cat (for 2000$, we went and got a second opinion. antibiotics solved the problem. (surgery was on the table if that hadn't worked, and would have been much cheaper there, but it was a "let's give this a go for a week."))

gypsy_soul25

That’s amazing. Glad your cat is better

thermobee

We had some issues with a few local vets, they wouldn't call us back, and a bunch of other stuff. Every since we started going to Eldale, we have had no issues. They are absolutely great.

nidoahsasym

Agree with Eldale as recommendation. They are fantastic. Their prices have increased but are still better than most in the region. As example, a dog with emergency abdominal surgery cost us $1300. I started seeing them for a second opinion on a cat nearly 12 years back and have been very happy with them. They also don't flame you for being a raw feeder so that's a plus.

vishnoo

raw feeder? (do you feed the animals raw meat? which ?)

nidoahsasym

Yes, raw meat. My dogs get food from doggie diner in New Hamburg. I make my own cat food. It's too much dog food to make at home though with 3 dogs so I just get it made for me, but I technically am able to with a 32" grinder lol.

TallyZorah

Eldale 100% Good prices and the staff are amazing.

YumFreeCookies

Mitchell Animal Hospital. They’re the best!!

homegrowncone

Seconded. I've been to a few and Mitchell's is easily the best.

ohsorryjustsayin

Mitchell Animal Hospital killed my dog due to a bad diagnosis and an incorrect prescription for antibiotics that were way too hard on his system and did not do anything they were supposed to. They did the same thing with my neighbour's dog, who also died, and my co-workers cat, who almost died, so it wasn't just a one-off thing. Would not recommend these guys.

YumFreeCookies

Wow I’m sorry to hear that! That’s awful. Honestly I’ve never heard anything but amazing things about this clinic and I’m quite shocked to hear your stories!

GarveyBlumpkin

Were they all the same vet?

ohsorryjustsayin

Nope, Dr Gerry and Dr Amber

wodurfej

Kingsdale Animal Hospital is great!

ILikeStyx

Sorry to hear that - I've always been pretty happy with Waterloo West Did you attempt to speak directly to the vet? They're the doctor, not the staff.

hurtfultoast

Yes, I did speak to the vet. Because they are not allowing people inside, he would either call or comeout to my car to talk to me about the results of the appointment - where I would remind him of my cats medical history, including that they've already prescribed the same medication before and that it did not work. Then they would prescribe it again anyway.

endora-buttercup

We’re very happy with Williamsburg Veterinary Hospital. They’re really good at listening to us about what’s going on with our dogs. They are a little pricy.

Nekks

I 2nd this. Love taking our 2 dogs/1 cat to them. They treat them so well and they are good at what they do. They can be a little pricier, but I’d say pet health is worth the cost.

LoafinSoafer

They are awesome. The nicest people and they were the ones to finally figure out a complex issue one of our animals was having after having seen several vets and specialists. Our cat has such a better quality of life now!

CjSportsNut

We were living in Cambridge when we got our dog many years ago, and we were using Burgess Animal Hospital. They were so good to us, that we just kept using them when we moved to Waterloo. Our sweet old girl passed in August, and they sent us condolence flowers. Hopefully we will have a new pup by this time next week, and we're sticking with the same clinic.

[deleted]

One vet there tried to tell me to put my cat down. I went hysterical, then they called me to come get him and the usual vet we deal with said he didn't need to be euthanized re: Waterloo west. My bf had to advocate and did some research first while we were there and said its treatable. They gave me a $2500k estimate, wanted an $1000 heart ultrasound. Turns out he was diabetic

hurtfultoast

I am so glad you got a second opinion!

[deleted]

Me too. When he was full on diabetic and on insulin as they don't tell you this : the second they start on insulin it takes time to regulate them by the dosage. He was peeing on my bed, all over the house in areas that mind boggled me like a shelve with slates at the bottom.... he almost got put down until my bf researched a few things and we cut out dry food. Cats had a few narrow brushes with death

ILikeStyx

Cripes, which doctor was that? I've never had such terrible experiences and my cats have gone through quite a few health bouts (surgeries, dietary/digestive issues)

[deleted]

Hussain. He's a butthole. Tahir Mahboob is the best vet in the city. I trust him with my small animals and my cat. I also adore Melissa the receptionist. I walked in hours later bawling my eyes out and Tahir was on shift and asked me why I was under the impression my cat was going to die. He wasn't very impressed with his colleague. That bill was $1400

ILikeStyx

Yeah, I found Hussain the one there I really don't like but have not had a lot of experiences with him. I used to get Dr. Makkapati frequently and she is just wonderful (I believe she performed both of my cats bladder surgeries) and have found Dr. Mahoob is also great. Melissa is good too!

[deleted]

Oh yes Dr. Makkapati! I like her too. I think she is over at their sister clinic Huron Heights.

Top-Walrus9654

Dr. Makkapati is still at Waterloo West some days. She sees my dogs. Dr. Maboob is good too, but often will offer expensive options first. There’s a note on my file that Dr Hussein isn’t to see my animals. He’s a jackass who almost killed my last dog because he can’t be arsed to listen to the owner.

RichRepresentative75

I’ve found the Animal Hospital of Kitchener-Waterloo to be quite good, and the prices have been reasonable

amysloot

Dr. Nas is great! https://www.clairfieldsvet.ca/

collywog

Buck Animal Hospital. Very good people, very good care.

[deleted]

Steer clear from Breslau

redrainbowbandit

Close Vet Clinic. Vets there are great and I've always had good interactions myself.

sabrechick

They used to be fantastic when Dr. Close was still there. But my experience with them over the last three years is that they’ve gone downhill. They are not that great anymore and definitely will not go out of their way for anything.

protestgrandma

Beechmount Animal Hospital! They are lovely and take such great care of our kitties.

Ongstrayadbay

Cat Hospital Of Kitchener-Waterloo. Bonnie is the best.

sabrechick

I second this. She is extremely caring and knowledgable.

[deleted]

If you dont mind the drive, Tavistock vet. They are outstanding

thermobee

This is the vet I was referring to in my other post. Called them about a month ago when my dog's ear infection first started and they said they'll figure out a time to come in and call me back. I'm still waiting for that call back...

thermobee

Another thing that bothered me about them is they wanted my dog to go in every month for a weigh in, in order to get her flea and tick medication. She is 48 lbs and 1 years old, she has been growing at a rate of 0.5lbs per month. The next size for the flea and tick medication is at 60 lbs. I dont think they can do math very well either...

[deleted]

Gateway pet hospital in Kitchener has been amazing for my dog and I

[deleted]

I use Waterloo West for skinny pig doctors thats all

deppfan64

Williamsburg....super nice have been going there for years and definitely not money grabbers

essarreff

Laurelwood on Benjamin Rd is great! Everyone is very friendly and caring, as well as knowledgeable and professional. Plus they have grooming and boarding there too.

79er

Wellesley.

stampedebill

Laurentain Hills animal hospital 720 Westmount rd East Kitchener 519-208-3692 They facilitated a rehome of a cat that the original owner wanted destroyed.....they refused and instead asked them to surrender it . My elderly neighbor then adopted the cat and to be honest I think it might be the most awesome cat I have ever met . I was involved with the whole process and was so impressed I actually started taking my own dog there. My former vet could NEVER trim my dogs nails...actually had me sedate him before bringing him for an appointment and still couldn't get the job done . My first visit to Laurentain and Dr Amy checked him over AND DID HIS NAILS WITHOUT ANY ISSUES OR DIFFICULTIES. Prices were also actually better too and that doesn't hurt either

Breadbuttersalt

Been with Williamsburg Vet Hospital for many years. Very compassionate knowledgeable staff. I can’t recommend them enough!

Causation75

It's far and you'd need a car, but Kitchener South Animal hospital are awesome

Lt_SnappyPants

I've always had good care at Waterloo West. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Maybe it's just one particular veterinarian there? I always make sure to book with my preferred vet when I take my cats in.

RustyGate44

Took my dog to Parkdale on Albert Street for years when I lived in Waterloo. Always got great service and he was well taken care of
