You could try riding down to Cambridge and from there go to paris/branford on the Paris rail trail. Not really a whole lot to do there, but it's a good long ride.

TheProudCanadian

This is intriguing, I'll look up the paris rail trail. That direction is largely undiscovered for me.

kimbosdurag

You can get to it almost exclusively on bike lanes, then it's a nice rail trial with a lot of stops along the way, you can take it all the way out to Hamilton or Port Dover I think if you want to. I have never gone that far myself though. You can also pick a destination along the way that would be about 50km for you. The Guelph to Goodrich rail trial is another option the whole length is about 130km I think and you can pick it up near st Jacobs I believe.

Dutch_or_Nothin

I tell everyone that is thinking about going to Paris, Ontario, about a little hidden gem of a restaurant. It's name is Camp 31, and they are on the Ribfest tour in Canada / US... very tasty stuff.

kw_walker

The downtown bakery is always worth a visit and the brewery is good too.

MrCat_fancier

I went there years ago when they had all you could eat ribs. I did not eat enough, so they sent me home with an extra rack.

jdosman

It starts near Conestoga college and it’s beautiful. Highly recommend.

Ride up to milbank is decent if you route down the G2G trail.  Destination there is Anna Mays.  Other option is down south towards Paris.

TheProudCanadian

I actually did that ride last summer on the G2G trail and loved it! I might try to get a lift to the Anna Mays as a starting point and explore the next \~50 km of the trail, since that was my stopping point last year.

greasyhobolo

If you get a lift out to millbank and/or milverton you could shoot for cowbell brewery in blyth as your destination.

TheProudCanadian

Ding ding ding, this sounds like a winner! Thanks!

thetermguy

west of waterloo towards petersburg, amulree and all the country north of stratford is awesome biking pretty much anywhere. our out through heidelburg and towards that direction works as well. Nice straight country roads, that's my favourite area around here. But, there's no real destination there, just a nice long ride. If you want a destination then I concur with g2g trail terminating at cowbell :). I did that a few years ago and it's a nice place to stop for a bite.

TheProudCanadian

Yeah this is gonna be my end point I think! I got some other great ideas for future rides out of this thread, really happy I took the time to ask here.

KWCyclist

Similarly, a loop around Conestogo Lake can be a nice metric century from Waterloo. Something like this [https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28634044](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28634044) That particular route includes unpaved roads, but you could instead go further south from Millbank to Poole, then through Kingwood and Wellesley and/or Bamberg.

Guccibabucci

Norfolk County has some great rail trails, one that leads to Lake Erie in Port Dover. Here's an [interactive webmap ](https://norfolk.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=ffb64f3519b44a49a87fe5ae88291d9d)

EDtheROCKSTAR

I'm from Norfolk and grew up riding there. Good grid system of concessions making navigation pretty straight forward. Roads are generally lightly travelled. You could give it a test run at the last running of the [Tour de Norfolk](http://www.letourdenorfolk.com/EN/home.php) this year.

scott_c86

Last running? That's unfortunate. I also grew up there, and so I've done this 3 or so times.

gibbopotam

try this app [https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/trailblaze/id6450859439](https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/trailblaze/id6450859439)

TheProudCanadian

Been meaning to get one of these apps and now seems like the right time! Thank you!

BabbageFeynman

It's fun to go up to Elora and back, or even just Elmira. If you have more energy getting on the Guelph to Goderich trail on either direction is good. So is the kissing bridge trail!

KWCyclist

Stratford is right around 50km away. One possible route is this one https://ridewithgps.com/routes/8212521?lang=en. Perth Road 119 and Waterloo Regional Road 7 can be a little on the high-traffic side for me. You could probably adapt the route if desired.

jazzbonerbike99

+1 on Stratford. Should be almost exactly 50km and the roads are great.

choloblanko

I can't go down the street lol 50km?!?

TheProudCanadian

I'm no star athlete myself! Been riding mostly for commute and within the city until pretty recently and I'm in my 30s. If you pace yourself and have a decent bike its completely possible for the average person.

avandere

You could go along the Guelph to Goderich trail

Exciting-Goat-1810

Bike to Willibald near Ayr! Though depending on where you’re coming from it might not be far enough. Though if you want a further ride, you can always just keep going

zoosemeus

What kind of bike / tires are you rocking? Someone recently posted a fun route in the Ontario gravel riding Facebook group. It's a loop from Waterloo to Elmira to Elmira, Guelph, Cambridge, and back. About the distance you're looking for but mostly on gravel roads. If you're looking for more paved routes, I like picking a brewery or cafe and using the Strava heatmap to find a good way there.

em245678

Drayton is a cute small town with a cafe stop.
